And, I think a proper OS map is the order of the day for the next ride.
  • Short notice again.

Myself and our kid are off to do a ride in the Peaks tomorrow (22nd September), we are setting off from Hull around 10am. So, if anyone wants to join us, let us know.

The route is Ladybower Loop, but we are doing it in reverse.

nice little 18 mile ride in peaks today, weather was brilliant, and no hike a bike  think the riding time was 2 and half hours, but stopping and taking a few pics it was longer in time overall.....great to see a few out on trails soaking up what might of been the last bit of warmth we will have, even better seeing giggsmaster picking himself up after a nice crash(i wondered how long it would be till he pushed his new bike to far  ),only downside is i need a new bb after today, hope i can get one before saturday.....and regarding saturday,we are off to peaks again for anouther ride with 3 lads(if i can get a bb),if anyone wants to join us?????
  • I'm always up for biking around the areas you mentioned. Laughing at altern8's poor attempt at map reading but seems you still had a laugh!!

About 11 of us doing the Hayfield loop on Sunday in the peaks if you want to join, I haven't met any of them before, hooked up with them on these forums. Jaccobs Ladder descent is part of the route.

we are at peaks on saturday, meeting up with a couple of lads who we aint rode with before(as long as my bb lasts the ride),starting in barber booth, and for a change we are going down Roych Clough/Rushup edge and jacobs ladder as we normally ride it the opposite way round,no doubt ill be walking most of it

if you want to join us on any rides feel free, myself and giggsmaster are out every weekend, and sometimes during the week as well.

enjoy youre ride on sunday, the peaks are a great place to ride.

Wow, an entire thread of Hullster's!

I'll introduce myself, I'm Fewie (31). Just really got back in to mtb'ing in an attempt to shift the beer gut (and man boobs, fat arse, ample thighs....) and I'm looking for ride/route suggestions in Hull & Surrounding areas. I'm originally from west hull but I'm out in Brough now.

I have ridden Dalby a bit recently (in fact I'm there next weekend for a four day break) but I want something on the door step that won't take 90mins to get to first.

I've done a few rides on the trans pennine out of Brough, the longest being 32 miles out to selby then got the train back. I also did an 18 miles route from a guide book around wharter last weekend but that ended being mainly road riding. Looking for general trail riding/xc with the odd bit of downhill. I ride a 2010 Anthem X4 and my riding buddy has a trek ex8, so we have the gear (if not the skill or fitness) to tackle most things!!

Any suggestions would be very welcome, cheers guys.
  • Thanks guys, I'll keep in touch on here. Hope you don't mind riding with a woman!
  • Welcome Sandybean and Fewie.

Like Altern says there should be someone out and about at some point during the week or weekend. We are out nearly every week if not twice.

There is a route sorted for a ride around Nidderdale for next Sunday if any of you are interested. It's about 16 mile with a couple of good DH's. I'll be posting up the route early next week.

Fewie..... There is a route that a few of us ride around the Brantingham area. It does have a couple of footpaths though, so just be prepared to encounter a few walkers. We are always courteous and have had no problems.

    Brantingham Loop

It's 13 mile but you can always add a bit on near the far end by going around Hessle Golf Club.

I'm going out for a ride in the morning so I'll try the brantingham loop out. I have just downloaded the map my ride app for my iPhone, is there anyway to add your map to my phone the use it to navigate or does it not work like that?

    And thanks for the route!

hi and welcome fewie,i dont know if you can add it to youre iPhone, giggsmaster would be able to tell you,but hes been out tonight and prob in no fit state to think about coming on here now,the only thing i can think of is to go on the app and type in"Brantingham Short Route"that should bring up the route for you

there are two young ladies on this thread who show there face from time to time who have been out with us in the past sandy so no worries on riding with a woman,as long as you enjoy going out and riding and a bit of banter.

Well I did the brantingham loop this morning. Don't think I followed it exactly as my route came in at over 18 miles starting & finishing @ green dragon in welton.

Some excellent riding though, really enjoyed it. Only downer was my riding buddies puncture but we managed to change the inner tube and get him going again in horizontal wind/rain.

Bike is caked but that can wait until tomorrow I think.

    Thanks for the route guys.
  • hey ther sorry havent been around just been on holiday to pontins bcos was cheap :P. anyways hows it going? i'm woundering anyone fancys going out on wed thurs or friday somewhere? weather looks poor but thats all part of the fun :)

fastpaul ill have to see if giggsmaster is working on the days you mentioned,as i cant really leave her in doors without car,as she will have to do school run in rain, which aint much fun,wed is looking the worst day for weather at mo,but you know what the forecasts are like this early in week :D

Long term forecast for the weekend shows it should improve from this but were away with wives/children as well so it's not just riding on the menu.

Contemplating picking up some new tyres this week, I don't think the Michelin xc's on my Anthem will handle wet dalby roots/rocks. A trip to ken ellekers is in order me thinks.

yea mate, the weather is looking ok towards end of the week :D

ive bought some intense system four from freetown about a month ago, aint rode them at dalby but what i have rode on ive found them very good, fast rolling and gives you plenty of grip when you need it,cost me £25 per tyre, but i get 10% discount from them as we are in there a lot
  • i hate tyres lol so many choose cant seem to find a good winter one :(
  • Fewie.... Glad you liked the Loop, I bet it is a bit muddy at this time of year. My bike is caked in the stuff from a ride in the Peaks on Saturday, still needs cleaning....

Fastpaul.... We are doing a ride in Nidderdale (link below) on Sunday, but I suppose if it is just me and Altern going, then if I'm not working we can always bring the ride forward to Friday.

    Nidderdale Loop
  • hey there friday be good but dont want you to change just for me i'll be going out hopefully anyways got work at 5pm friday so if went would be morning if went. but am free next week few days in week

Yeah the loop was muddy as hell. Enjoyed it though.

Do any of the hull bike shops sell schwable tires? I fancy some nobby nics I think. Seem to be regarded as a good all year round tire. Don't wanna get too carried changing tires all the time. Already blown far too much cash on the new ride.

as for nobby nics(im sure giggsmaster will correct me),we met up with a couple of lads when we did walna scar, and they was saying they didnt think much of the tyres,i was surprised after reading the good things about them....as i was thinking of getting some!!!

  • Hey,

When are you doing the Nidderdale ride again? Friday or Sunday? Both I can potentially do but just need to organise myself a bit.

    Cheers

PS, did the Hayfield route in the peaks on Sunday with Jacobs ladder decent. One of the guys broke his collarbone!! It was really tough but a huge achievement. How did you find it?
