    well, it was a disaster!
i will upload some pics when i get the camera back, but at one point the tent was an inch deep in hail and snow!
went out for the practice run on sat morning and there was absolutly no traction or grip anywhere. people were slipping off on adderstone field!
anyways, made it round worry gill and managed to stuff it on the flat fast straight just after. basically, the bike slid sideways through the river of mud flowing across and put me into a bog, i managed to save it for a short while (on the front wheel for a good 20 meters) before the wheel dug in and threw me over the bars, landing me in a nettle bush!
that hurt a little bit, so after a breif stop to get un winded, we carried on and were pushing the bikes most of the way round and up medusas, before sliding back down with the grace of a rabid elephant. the bikes just went, so you followed whichever line the river took you. got back to the start and we found that my mate had also cracked his frame at the seatpost tube weld, so that was that!
bikes 196 and 197 retired before it started!

Bobs bikes sent me in this direction to put a word in, I am looking for people up for a bit if trail building, go check my topic under Routes," East Yorkshire Trail Building Your County Needs You". Saves me writing out my sales pitch again and replies in there won't bother this topic, cheers. Was going to add next time you in the Ferriby to South Cave area biking I would join in but you lot seem to be a lot fitter than me reading past posts (a bit worring) plus my front suspension parted company with my bike last night on a downhill section into Elloughton Dale (still hurts), once repaired I will come out to play and try keep up.

Sounds like you have some good ideas,id say with myself, its a little bit to far out,as doing the local ride from front door to nut wood(garlic woods) and back is 30 miles for me and about my limit. As for us lot being fit,i wouldnt put myself in that bracket,as im always the one the others wait for at the top of the climbs

With all the rain we have had mate i myself wont be doing anything local until we have had a couple of weeks of sunshine,as with past experience the majority of the local bridleway trails we use will be a bit of a bog fest with a few ponds thrown in as well, even the cheeky footpaths we use will be a bit of a slog. And as Bobs Bikes has said Dalby is a no go at mo and id say the moors will be as well

I drive up there when digging, wheel barrow a bit hard to get on bike. If you drive feel free to join in the dig team altern, also could make your start point for rides nut wood, but which nut wood a few round here with that name but I will try come out round your neck of the woods and a Dalby ride sometime. As for my local trails the south wolds, which a lot of them are cheeky ones as you lot put them, are very very muddy, but the only good thing on my bike are the maxis dhf minions keep me going just. Lots of fun if you ask me snaking about. But the other thing is just to drum up support for when I approach land owners about building a local trail centre'esk trail, the more it is wanted I think the better chance we have of getting it. The site at South Cave is a short freeride style trail with a few lines the idea start there and build a community around that, wharncliffe collective style.

Due to not working at the moment,im having to keep the car off the road as cant afford to run it so any local rides start at the doorstep and involve about 30% off road and 70% road till we get to HERE and then join the High Hunsley Circuit, and nut wood is opposite Raywell House mate.

I've had a quick look back at a couple of pages and can't see why you say Dalby will be a "no go".

Why is it a "no go" please?

This is why id say Dalby is a no go mate and that was last saturday, and it will be even worse now as its been raining all week.By all means pop up there and make me eat my words

dalby is ridable, but as we were racing on the world cup route, that is a complete write off. we came back from thornton le dale and through ellerburn, which was ridable from the visitors centre along the blue route to dixons hollow, although there were diversions along this route too.
the local loop is passable, but you wont enjoy it, unless you like wading ankle deep in clay and stopping every 50 yards to pull the mud clumps from the tyres.

    These dry weather riders.... :)

I know buy a road bike!. Its all about the muck.

I know the wood Altern to use locals its known as Blue bell wood you will soon see why come late spring, was brought up in the land of swans up the road. Its also my turning point back home to South Cave on my rides. Its a shame cos past there are all the good trails, my rides 90% off road.

High Hunsley circuit a good 3/4 day ride done it twice in my life, just dont let my bros mate know (head of rural footpaths for ERYCC) keep telling him to do more for us MTB's but they are more family orientated hence the old railway trails they have done. If you ever can get to south wolds, I could give you a tour and I will try get to neck of the woods I dont do much round there so would be interested.

  • Cheers for the info about Dalby I think I'll give it a miss.

As it's low tide in the late afternoon on Monday I'll bring the Fat Bike and ride from either Withernsea (if time) or Easington down to Spurn Head and back again.

Anyone else with a Fat Bike free on Monday?

If the weather stays as it is for Monday, ill be out on the bike at some point during the day,ill either be taking a ride out towards Skidby and see where i go from there,or i might go on road to Hornsea and then take the old railway line back to Hull.I know what ever i do will be at a slow pace as aint been out for 4 weeks now

which route do you take to hornsea altern?
i usually go up the railway line and back via fosse hill, arnold and benningholme lane, drops me out in 'upper brandsholme'. its about a 45 mile route.

Normally go out through Wawne-Routh and then along the A1035,then take the B1244 through Leven/Catwick/Seaton and onto Hornsea,on way back i come off the line at Bransholme and take Noddle Hill Way back to Kingswood, its around 30 miles.

Just a heads up everbody. The trails I ride Ferriby to South Cave which are mainly cheeky ones, the ramblers have been on the rampage, just in a mile section at the top of Elloughton Dale I have removed off the a path over 10 logs put accross to slow us down. Fair enough we should not be on there but I am respectful of them, I slow down and thank them everytime, they are trying to cause us harm, which is bang out of order. Next time I might take a spade and make jumps out of them all that will piss them off. It must be a small group of hardcore walkers everyone I met on that section I had a laugh and a joke with.

If its the same part which we ride mate, its just before the cheeky downhill which is rooty as you drop down to the road, they are always putting twigs/logs/trees across the path, they also do it on the part from Elloughton Dale to Spout Hill
As you say its a small minority who do it,but on the other side of it there will be a few mountain bike riders who wont take the time to let the walkers pass and come flying up behind them, which gives the rest of us a bad name

Managed to get out with giggsmaster tonight and did 24 miles in just short of 2 hours with a couple of stops, rode out on the Hornsea rail track and came back on road, first time been out in 4 weeks.

Yes it is those trails the second is known as Peggy farrow and where I get the most abuse when passing walkers even at a snails pace, I just play dumb, what can you do. I have considered making a trail along side the path but can't hunt down the land owner as of yet. Getting a team of diggers together now so just need to blag land owners to make my neck of the woods a good riding spot.
