Hi and welcome mate, ive been out for a ride at some point with just about everyone on here, and they are all a friendly bunch, unless one of them is a axe murderer in there spare time and i dont know

Im normally out at least once during the week, and then again at the weekend with Giggsmaster at this time of the year, but due to the rubbish weather we are having we aint been out much at all,if i have enough notice about a ride i do normally change the main thread heading to when/where we are going, all i can suggest at the moment is to keep a eye on here for rides,or drop a post youreself if youre going out and keep youre fingers crossed someone is free....... And im round the corner from you on Kingswood.

    Gday guys,
Little bit early i know but I'm up in York (staying in Nether Poppleton with brother/family) whilst visiting from Western Australia. I was really wanting to get out to Dalby forest to hit up the Red route, and was wondering if anyone was heading out on Sunday 22nd July and would either have a space in their car (willing to pay petrol etc) or simply just after some company on the trail.

I'm fairly fit and ride regularly, and will hopefully be on me new stumpy! I might be able to do other times also if this doesn't work for anyone, just keen to ride new trails whilst over in the UK.
  • Is any one heading out this week then? I can do after 4pm jml if your free still, or wed morning. Know the weather not great, but least that wind wind is warm :) Im from just off Holderness rd.

York is a bit out of the way for me from Hull, plus at the moment i have no transport so i rely myself on Giggsmaster for a lift anywhere. Also i dont really tend to go to Dalby as i much rather prefer to hit the natural trails on the North York Moors or the Peak district. So i cant really help you mate.

When i spoke to Giggs yesterday,he was on about getting out 2mor(weds) with myself and scoleman99 if he is still free, and heading up onto the moors, still tbc tho.
At the moment i havent got anything planned for this weekend so i could do something on saturday or sunday morning, ill be able to confirm thursday night/friday morning if its any good for you?
  • Yeah nice one Altern8, weekend sounds good, thats if im not working my self. I'll know more towards end of the week.

Just seen the weather, it's still looks abit dodgy but I'm going to go for it. Nice little ride up on the moors.

Altern will be tagging along. It's a ride around Hambleton Moors taking in a few decent DH's, with a couple of lung busting climbs thrown in. In the region of 16-20 mile, depending what the weather is like when we get there.

So, I'm picking altern up at 12.20. Looking to get to the start point, which is a carpark at the village hall in Hawnby, about 2pm.

So scoleman, if you fancy joining us, let me know.

Not going to be able to make it out this weekend mate. While we was out today,we was heading back to the car on a downhill and my tyre blew on me which left a nice hole in the tyre wall, must say the loud bang woke me up tho,so i ended up having to walk the last mile and half back to the car park,so i need to get a new set of tyres and i also need to get a bleed kit for my front brake as it doesnt work anymore.
  • No worries bud, think im working anyway :(

We have also been talking about having a go at the Yorkshire Wolds route from Hessle-Filey,again we was maybe looking at doing it in a day

Hi Guys, when are you thinking of doing this? I'd be quite interested in joining you if you don't mind. I'm looking at a route that follows the walk as closely as possible, I can let you have it as soon as I've worked it out.

    Cheers
  • I was planning on walking that in the next few weeks over 3 days when the weather sorts it self out, starting at filey.

I didnt think you could bike alot of the route? But yeah, im in :)

I think the majority of it is Public Footpath. My idea was to follow it as closely as possible using any adjacent bridleways, white roads etc. trying to avoid actual roads as much as possible.
I think the local tourist information and the East Riding council put one together but that is nearly all quiet roads?
I think doing it from Filey to Hessle is the best way round as it give you a sense of always going down hill, and once you are back in Hull you're more or less home without a drive ahead of you.

As far as i know 47% of the route can be done on bike, but which parts im not to sure as i havent really looked into it anymore as myself and Giggs havent really spoke about it since,as it looks like his attempt at the WHW is a bit up in the air at the moment.

Im not to sure if "bobsbikes" would be able to point us in the right direction of a mapped route,if one is out there at all?

    This is the one I think http://www.yorkshirewoldscyclechallenge ... route.html

More of a circular route than a point to point?

Isnt that link all on road tho mate?

I may be wrong as like i said i havent really looked into it,but this is the SITE i was looking at as it has a link to the ordnance map,but which parts can be done on a bike i dont know as cant find anything.

Yeah I think it is all road "Family friendly"

I'll have a look at the link you've posted, then I'll see what i can do with Memory map

I certainly think its do able with legal trails, the route may have to deviate from the true path of the Wolds Way a bit, but distance wise it should be fairly close. I'll have a go at it later and see what it turns out like.
  • in my own opinion any track that is for walking can be biked down, may have to carry bikes over a few styles and dodge a few stick wielding hikers...but its not like they are gonna get our reg number is it lol and can always deviate from the track as and when needed, long as got OS maps. Also filey to hessle would be better for the gradient, but i think its a max of 3 bikes on a train to get there.
  • Just got back from a decent ride out, Hessle Foreshore to welton, to market weighton then down the track to bev, which was mainly bog but good fun, then back to hull and the weather has been kind :)

You guys out this weekend? ive gotta work.

Sounds like you had a good ride out, what track did you use to get back to Bev?
I was looking at going out today but managed to crick my neck yesterday which led to only 3 hours sleep as every time i moved i woke up in agony, and now feels as tho my head is to heavy for my neck at the moment(if that makes sense  ),so at the moment it all depends how long it lasts for if i will be out over the weekend :(
  • That dont sound to good Altern8, probably best not riding while its like that lol :)

Yeah was a good ride, the track goes from mkt weighton town centre to bev, its the old railway line, about 10 mile, an brings you out at the hayride pub in molescroft. Think its called the Hudson trail or somet like that.

Gonna try get out beginning of next week if we still blessed with half decent weather, if any one is free and fancies a ride out .

The neck pain has eased off a bit, still cant sit in one place for longer then 20 mins tho.

I didnt know there was a old railway track out that way,did you go on road to mkt weighton or did you follow the wolds way?

As for a ride.all next week ive got a few things on during the day,if i can sort out my hardtail id be able to get out from 4pm onwards if thats any good
