Well I wish I could have made it but the scrooge boss at work will not let anyone have time off between
Xmas and new year
Bar humbug
Have a good ride see you in the new year0 -
I think I'll stick to Dalby, fancy trying to cut down on the number of times I fall off on the red route! About the track to Hornsea, is that tarmac? Is it fit for roadbike or would I need to take hybrid or mtb?0

Sorry to hear that sl2371,we will sort something out in the new year, either anouther night ride or a weekend ride mate, have a good one.bringbackbuck wrote:I think I'll stick to Dalby, fancy trying to cut down on the number of times I fall off on the red route! We will prob be doing about 13 miles at Dalby, blue route out to the back end near the toll booth, and then red route back to visitors centre.
As for the Hornsea track, its a bit of tarmac, the rest is cinder track as its the old railway line, you could do it on a hybrid or a road bike,id say getting punctures would be the biggest problem,as Bobs bikes says, its family friendly,no hills, just flat.0 -
Long time no see Altern & Giggs
Would of been well up for the Dalby ride but I'm in the same boat as sl2371 on this one regarding work & a SCROOGE of a boss
Rode through Dalby Yesterday (looked quiet) on the way to Scarborough (was on the roadbike tho) really need to blow the dust & cobwebs off the Yeti so will deffo be out sometime soon......If ya aint 1st, yer last!!!0 -
Bit misty up there today.. Think i need windscreen wipers on my glasses.0
-
I ended up there today, wasn't intending to, but decided to offload some Xmas kg! Did you fellas make it? I did the red until about section 30ish when I bailed onto an escape route; didn't fall off at all for once; until the car park (forgot to unclip th spd.) where I keeled over!
Loved the conditions today.
Yeah, thanks to the mechanic at the bike shop at the bottom who fixed my brake calliper and refused to take any payment.0 -
It was just myself and giggsmaster today,we didnt get there till 2pm.We did 13 miles, took the blue route out to marker 26,then the green to marker 25 and started the red route there back to the visitor centre,it was a little bit dark near the end
We are looking at sorting out a ride for the 7th january,i "think" we will be looking at up on the moors as long as the weather lets us,or as a second resort it will be a made up route at Dalby if anyone is free and wants to join us?0 -
bobs bikes wrote:we are off down the hornsea line on the 27th if dalby is a bit too much. leaving the shop at 10am. 30 miles there and back. all flat, no roads, family friendly.
giggs, pop in when you get a chance. i need to bounce some ideas off you for an event im planning.
have a good ride up at dalby lads, and merry christmas!
I'll pop in sometime in the next week or so Stu.pete80 wrote:Long time no see Altern & Giggs

Good to hear from you Pete.
Like our kid says, we will do a ride on the 7th, so if manage to get out might see you then.0 -
If I can shake this lingering cold I will come on the seventh0
-
Anyone know where I can get a detailed map of the Dalby routes? Went today and it was great fun until the heavens opened, but I find the full red a bit too far but instead of always missing the last few sections would like to maybe mix it up so I do the end bits and miss some of the mid.0
-
You could have a look here:
http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/eng-dalb ... tb-map.pdf
And also have a look at the dedicated Dalby section here, and see if you want to join in any of the action:

Get that cold sorted out Si...
Buck... If you have a look on the map Royal Dragoon posted, we used to miss out some of the far end red, just after Dixons Hollow. Instead of following the route after marker 13, take the road to the right and go past the Toll Booth. This then turns to gravel after a barrier, then take another right which then brings you to marker 25 and homeward bound... It takes a good few miles off.0 -
Cheers fellas,
I shall cut it down in one way or another; I hate going down the escape routes, feels like I've bottled it!
What kind of time you thinking on Sat?0 -
Buck.....one of the best parts at Dalby(imo),is the final blast through the forest back to the visitor centre,as for Saturday, still not sure where we are going at mo,will prob make a final decision on Thursday,we normally look at meeting up about 9-30am for a 10am start.0
-
Hi Guys, thinking about heading to Dalby anyway on saturday, am I ok to join you guys?0

Myself/Giggsmaster and sl2371(if he has shaken off the cold) are looking at HERE as the first choice for Saturday, its 15-16 miles of doubletrack,....but if the weather is like today,we will be looking at doing a ride at Dalby, which will take in parts of the World Cup course/the back end of the red route, some of the old red and black route, and a few off piste bits, hopefully of about 13 miles.
Which ever ride we decide to take on,it wont be a full on ride as ill be on my 80mm hardtail,so ill be taking my time at the back again,or should that be,being left at the back again
If anyone wants to join us,more then welcome.0 -
If we do the cockeyene route will we be doing the last descent0
-
Its not the normal last descent if thats what you mean sl2371?The last descent we will be doing is normally the first climb we do,if that makes sense?
We are starting further down the road from the normal start point,so we dont have to do the road climb back upto the cars.0 -
It's doubletrack-tastic Si.... A ride to keep them legs working abit, no off piste action because it could get a tad boggy.0
-
Is this the one we was going to do before when I was gonna come on my cross bike0
-
Its a diff route this one Si,you have done all of it before in diff rides we have done up that way.
The first part of the ride is near enough what we do when doing the "Incline" ride.We climb up through the Wood, onto Blowith crossing, then to where Giggs came off on the ingleby moor downhill on a corner ages ago,you had to bike back upto us...instead of turning right we go left, and drop through anouther wood to the bottom of the road climb(Baysdale Abbey).....upto and along Cleveland way to bring us out at the top of the "Incline",then back to blowith crossing and back along the top to the first climb we normally do(Ouse Gill Head/West Gill Head),sounds easy when i know where and what im on about0 -
So would you say it's ridable on a cyclo x bike0
-
Yeah, Dan is thinking of coming if he can get rid of his cold. So, if he does join us he will be on his cyclo x....
He did the almost same route with us last February on his x.0 -
The moors it is in for Myself/Giggsmaster and sl2371 on Saturday then, anyone else fancy it?0
-
What time are you setting of from hull and where are we starting from0
-
Dan is starting in Helmsley, crazy dude... He is riding from there and meeting us in Cockayne . Near the arrow is a cattle grid, just park around there.
Setting off from Hull about 8am.0 -
Hi.
Sadly can't make this ride, already got a ride planned. But regarding detailed maps and dig days at dalby have a look at www.singletraction.co.uk:
Public forum for the dig days, nothing currently planned, although seem to be a few people willing.
And for the maps look under the project page, then dalby. If i remember correctly there are 3 detailed maps (old and new) under the dalby section of the forum too, but the forum is down at the moment so can't be sure.
Have fun & hopefully finally get on a ride with you soon.0 -
Are you going to McDonalds for breakfast first if so I'll meet you there0
