  • So, just to confirm. Its me, altern and sl2371 for the night ride at Dalby?

If I can get the time off in between Xmas and new year I'm up for it
  • Ride for Sunday....

Nice and easy ride around the North Yorkshire Moors. Not doing any of the singletrack DH's as they could be very boggy, so majority of the ride will be on doubletrack with a little bit of road, as not sure of the state of things up there.

Meet in Gilamoor at 9.30 with riding starting at 10.00. The ride takes in a grinding ascent up Farndale West, then down the other side into Cockayne. Up through Blowith Wood onto Blowith Crossing, along Cockayne and Bransdale Ridge, then a drop back down into Cockayne on road( :( ). Ascend upto Rudland Rigg, along this back to Gilamoor.

Anyone is free to join myself and altern (on our HT's).

Wasn't offroad riding. Just passing through on the way from Scarborough to Thornton-Le-Dale on my Hybrid (slick 1" tyres) as i do most days. It was a little wet but figured that wasn't usually a problem with that bike an those tyres. Keep forgetting how the conditions on top of the forest can be drastically different from how they usually are in the valleys and down near sea level. Sure enough, i climbed up to Bickley Gate to be met by all the rainfall turned into white frosty ice, along with accompanying drop in temperature. Still, was a bit of a laugh trying to keep the bike upright on the road. Every time i had to put any weight on the pedals the back wheel would spin and i'd end up slipping and sliding and doing doughnuts. Must of worn down my rear brake pads by half going back down towards Purple Mountain using them as a drag brake.

I think knobbly tyres will get their airing tomorrow, lol.
  • Good ride out today, enjoyed the HT. There were some hairy moments with there being a layer of snow on top of ice in parts. Especially on Rudland Rigg coming back to Gillamoor. 19 mile in total, not a bad little route for winter.

Here are a couple of pics.

Looking back towards Church Houses, just sheet ice....

As long as the weather stays ok,looking at sorting out a ride on the 29th or 30th,at the moment we are looking at a gentle ride round Dalby to try to get rid of the xmas pud and beer,if anyone wants to join us?
  • What do you fellas consider a gentle ride? I'm from Hull and love a bit of Dalby, but would hate to be the slow coach!
  • Regarding Dalby ride. Myself, Dan and Paul looks like we can make it on the 29th, along with altern. The ride will be very gentle, as Paul has not been out for a good ride in a few years. So, it will be a case of taking it easy. Also, I don't think it will be the full red route.
  • we are off down the hornsea line on the 27th if dalby is a bit too much. leaving the shop at 10am. 30 miles there and back. all flat, no roads, family friendly.

giggs, pop in when you get a chance. i need to bounce some ideas off you for an event im planning.

have a good ride up at dalby lads, and merry christmas!
