Glad everyone enjoyed the ride. It's a shame I had to cut and run but hopefully we can sort out another ride soon.

As for finding the justification for spending £1700 on a mountain bike you'll hardly use.....buggered if I know. But if you can come up with something that would satisfy my Mrs then let me know

Without trying to sound like a complete tw@t, my best road bike is 3.5k's worth that hardly gets used, it had been indoors from October up until our Cat & Fiddle run. Maybe if I used the mountain bike a few times a month I could get away with it?!

Having a Sabbath Silk Road as a winter bike worked, maybe I should suggest we go off roading together?!

I may even treat my Trek to a spin out on that one..... If it's dry

I'm off to Budapest next weekend and I'm heading down to Bala the weekend after to meet up with the in-laws so it looks like a bit of time off the bike for me over the next couple of weeks :(
The route wasn't great, we had a tour of NE Wales' main roads, nearly ending up on the A483 at one point.

I'd be happy to plot a route around some of my favoured lanes if anyone is up for another spin. Just let me know if there are any preferences for distance/amount of climbing/cake stop etc.

Are you planning a cafe stop?

I've just lowered my saddle by 5cm, turns out I've been cycling toes pointing down a lot, hopefully it won't affect my already poor climbing ability too much...

Just what I was thinking, but it needs to be done, and I haven't got the patience for 5mm a week change, so I've bit the bullet.

I've had a quick play on the turbo and if I pedal with a more horizontal foot, the fit on the winter bike is far better now. I guess it's just going to take a bit of acclimatisation...

Just goes to show, I wonder how many of us have our bikes set up badly

I suspect my bike wasn't perfectly set up for that ride. Mind you, it was the first time I'd worn cleats on such a long ride and the bike is new, though it didn't look it at the end.

I suffered a bit bit from a sore knee for the next day so I've adjusted my cleats and it seems to have done the job.

  • I'd be up for a ride with you guys at a weekend if anyone is interested. I live in Buckley and normally do 40-60 miles on a Sat and sun but as I'm getting on a bit I wouldn't say I am the fastest or best climber around so you may well drop me after a while.

I'm sure I'm up for a ride this Sunday, What do you mean getting on a bit, ye sound like my kinda cyclist. Got a lads night out tonight and at my age it takes me till sunday to get over it!

If your doing 40-60 miles on a saturday and sunday I don't think you've got many worries about being dropped by yours truly. I've got commitments for the next couple of weekends so I don't think I'll be able to get out but I'll be up for a spin when I can.

Well I'm 44 this year and I always seem to be older than most of the other cyclists I see round and about.

On A sunday I often go up to the horshoe pass either via Acrefair or straight up from Padeswood direction and then down to Ruthin and up the hill to Loggerheads and then back to sunny Buckley, but I'm quite open to other routes or suggestions.

Trying to get some miles in ready for the Cheshire Cat.

I'm comin up to the big 40 this september, feel much older this morning after to much beer last night. unfortunatly got to work tomorrow so no cycling sunday, would be up for something next week though.
  • sounds good to me - may just have a short ride tomoz as I did 75 miles today - Buckley to Ruthin, Denbigh and then Llangollen, plenty of climbing and legs very sore!

Unfortunately I'm doing split shifts this weekend but I'll be around next weekend if anyone wants a ride. I need to get some more miles in my legs for the Cheshire Cat anyway. I shouldn't worry about pace, we never leave anyone behind whether climbing or descending (especially as I'm a much better climber than descender!).

The last ride was fantastic going via Ruthin, Llandegla, Horseshoe Pass and Minera. $0 miles turned into 70 and I was more than a little saddle sore at the end!

Right, I've finished painting the stairs and landing, the kitchen walls are done and the doors have been glossed. I've sorted the garden and put some fresh roof felt on the shed and I'm going to transplant a couple of trays of pansies before I head off to the airport. I can do the kitchen ceiling next friday afternoon while my daughter is in nursery and the shopping can be sorted thursday night after she's in bed.

Which all adds up to one thing.......I can play out on my bike next Saturday!! :D

If anyone wants to keep me company they're more than welcome.

I we should have turned back towards Llandegla when we were at the Ponderosa, rather than carry on towards Llangollen...

Possibly but I rather enjoyed that steady climb up to Minera.

I'm working a split shift this Saturday but I will be out on Sunday 15th if anyones around. It's looking to be quite breezy so I suspect I won't be pushing that hard.

I should be ok for a day out Sunday.

I live in Northop Hall as well so should be easy enough to meet up.

Excellent! Any particular route you'd like to ride and what time do you want to set out?

Hows about 10'sh. weather is supposed to be awful at weekend so maybe best to sort out on the day, as don't fancy being to exposed if its wet and windy.

I'm "on call" wednesday night and if I'm not out to late will be out on thursday morning.

Not sure if you guy's are aware, but Rhyl-CC have a reliability ride on Sunday see link:
    http://rhylcyclingclub.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=341

There are 3 rides short, 50 miles and 100km. No entry fees - we are going.

Also there is a major cycling event in the area on Saturday / Sunday based at Hope Sports Center about 5 miles from Wrexham. The route runs from Hope, through mold towards denbigh.

Do they get many on the reliability ride.

To be honest I don't know, we have only just joined the club, I would expect quite a good turnout as they get quite a few riders on their club events. A couple of friends from work are popping along and I'll also take the lad so will stick to the 50 mile ride!

Sounds good but I quite fancy the reliability ride if your up for it? I'll be up pretty early if that's the case as I don't drive.

As for Thursday morning, I wouldn't mind a ride then too. Is 10 o'clock outside the Londis ok? Sorry about the short notice.
