Wyre Forest:regular sunday morning ride(&weekday nights)

  • I met with Natural England today to discuss a trailquest I am organising in December using part of the Wyre Forest.
They've got some ideas for creating and improving mountain bike trails in their part of the forest (roughly, everything East of Button Oak, Cooper's Mill and the visitor centre) and they want to get local mountain bikers involved.
There's an ongoing thread about it here, on STW.
Briefly, no singletrack, but not just another family route either.
They are looking for about a dozen people to join a forum, so if you're interested in being part of it, contact me or Natural England.
I am a mountain biking god.
    Unfortunately, my bike's an atheist.

So is anyone out on Wed evening? Might not be able to make it due to childcare but would be sorry to miss out whilst the trails are so dry.

    To anyone going tonight,

Our Friend the 'log placer' has been active again.

Please take care at the bottom of garlic.

Tried to move most of them last night.

Weds - 7.30 at the Duke pub.

GB - I went out on Monday night and there were loads of logs and branches all over the place too, whoever is doing it is a coward .....sneaking around putting out logs.....

The problem is..... its a problem for walkers, as a friend of the family almost tripped over whilst out walking with the dog....

Just after i saw you at the junction last night where we went down behind the bungalow (guard dogs) there were a load down there! Nothing any of us cant get over though!

The main trails over the far side were ok!

These are not the usual placed accross the tracks,

They were cut up logs placed to do somebody a mischief.

    approx 9" in diameter.

somebody had to think really hard where to place these.
  • HI guys

I live in Kiddy and enjoy getting out in the forest and the Welsh trail centres with friends but I struggle to find anyone to ride with in the evenings in the week. I'm an ok standard but definately no whippet uphill, currently ridding about once a week in evenings and once at weekends.

Hoping to find a group who I could get regular rides with - be great to find other gals who enjoy it too.

Are you open to strangers tagging along next week one night if you are out? Don't wanna hold anyone up though if you on race pace though!

    Ellie :)

There are loads of other girlies and it's not normally race pace so they'll let you follow / lead them around :)

I think they where on about riding Friday, can't remember where though, Wyre or Clent.

Sorry Mounty, bike was in bits hoping for a CRC Delivery, got called out which went on and on and forgot to text you, likely still shouldn't ride bust ribs and all, but hey :)

    Hi Ellie,

    Yeah just come along any time, we have various rides during the week....they get posted up on here or on face ache;

    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=119763151384130

Regular meeting point is the Duke William Pub, just opposite the visitor centre.

Dont worry about holding anyone up, just come along and enjoy it, plus I know you wont be the slooooowest one in the group, that place has already been taken!

If you are looking for female riders then look out for muddypuddle and sassysarah on the forums, but there a quite a few female riders in the group......one or two chatter boxes but I wont name and shame !

    :D

    Hi Ellie,

As mounty said join the FB group as the rides will then come through as event invites and will then show on your wall, theres quite a few girlies in the group, the two Sarah's paul talked of, Mandy (scooby), another Sarah, a Judy, a Helen, a Chez and a Debs.(sorry if ive forgot anyone) You'll get welcomed into the group, theres a couple of young girls hopefully joining them soon so will be a famale dominated riding group!

We also ride clent a bit in the evenings as its about the same time to get there for us kiddyites, but closer for those coming from brum way!

You couldn't find your way out of a paper bag! lol

Head into bewdley follow the same road all the way through, (tight right turn round church, then tight right turn by the chinese/indian place), follow this road through button oak village, you'll see a carpark on left just before the national speed limit signs, well its not that one its the next one about 300m further up on left. It comes up pretty quick over the crest of the hill so dont floor it out of button oak! It say Earnswood copse on the sign!
  • Has anyone got any pics from last Saturday's ride - before the heat haze melted everyhting?

Is Button Oak at the Wyre?

I might try to make this on Friday, as long as there's no real need for lights? My dad put AAs in my 18650 charger, so now I can't charge my lights

I won't be there tonight guys, would be a bit of a rush to get there for 7.30. I'll try to make the Clent ride on the 6th, but it's my birthday so I might have to stay at home and eat cake instead

How spooky - it's my birthday too!!! :P All the best people are born on the 6th of July (well, excluding Kate Bush and Sylvester Stallone obviously)
I won't be at Clent though as making the other half take me out to dinner. It'll be Weds or Thurs for me next week
