Okay okay now just how many of YOU are there from the West County, come on people you know who you are, own up MTFU and come OUT I know your all lurking somewhere in the forum.

+1 for me, my wife is a local Wiltshire lass and I'm a London boy born 'n bred but loving the beautiful west, even more now I know my local commuting and training runs are in fact the hills of "Highclere" castle

Been living in Cornwall since I was 14 (Surrey before that).
Wife goes back many generations in Cornwall but born in Plymouth (nearest hospital to Boscastle at the time) - but our 4 week old boy (and dog) is the only one actually born in the county!

    Absolutely love it down here!

Hello all. Been lurking here for a while, but decided to own up to my west country roots...

Born and bred - I live in Wrington, near Bristol Airport and grew up in Cleeve, ooh about 2 miles away. Amazingly I do have 2 eyes etc. I ride to work 2-3 days a week - 13 miles into Brislington where I play with computers making them control spacecraft.

Not sure if Newbury is West Country (?) but this hick town is where I live.

Born in Norwich (a fine city) then moved to Staines, then Wem-ber-ley, then Luton (first house), and now here.

This is my fave place so far - that's lucky eh!

Ah yes, there are some areas of populace that are a little bit backwards shall we say, but that's all part of the places charm...

On a bigger plus side, people are generally more friendly, and have more time for you in most walks of life.

wey hey! I lived in Okehampton up until May of this year, back in Exeter now (Exeter born and raised) still go to Okie each week for St John Ambulance training and served on the town council for a while.

Anyway, down here we are not strictly West Country, we are in the South West. Bristol and that area is the Westcountry.

I come through Backwell too on days when I don't fancy the Col d'Barrow Tanks (it don't half go on - to me anyway, I'm fairly new to this game). Have to check all the bits are still on the bike.

    Bristawl, here.

To the OP - Mawlbruh's not West Country it's awmost a suburb of Lundun!

And Cheltnum's awmost Brummie! Or is that Welsh Marches? Or is that Oxford? Hmm, perhaps its in the North East of the West Country - North East? Must be Geordies or Mackams then! Or then again ...

We Bristolians think we come from a "big" city; we think 400,000 pop. is "big" when we talk to some Weston-super-Mare beachcomber pier burners. They remind us that although we're a bit bigger than Cardiff and Plymouth and Southampton we're only less than half the size of Glasgow and Birmingham and 5% the size of London!

I think it goes back to the 13th Century when we were the 2nd biggest city in England.

Bristol is the 10th biggest city in the UK.
I have spent a fair amount of time in all of the top 10 apart from Sheffield as well as many of the smaller cities too. (I used to tour the country as a sound engineer, so you'll have to speak up) therefore I feel quite well placed to say that Brizzle is by far the nicest of those top 10 (less Sheffield which I don't know, but seen from the M1 it doesn't look all that inviting - then again, what city does from the motorway). The only other one that I'd consider living in would be Edinburgh, but that's just a little too far north for my liking.

So for me it's an informed choice to live in or near Brizzle.

PS I'm sure there will be howls of "What? You can't say that about..." but this is just my opinion, the only city I really don't have anything nice to say about would be Sunderland, eww.

The M1 passes up the East side of the city, which isn't so nice - the West side, on the other hand, is where Sheffield merges into the Peak District, with excellent cycling country to be had.

was the cheapest place for myself and my now ex to get a place together, couldn't afford to rent in Exeter, and with Okie being on the A30 it was easy to get back into Exeter for work. I am seriously considering going back up there when I have the money.

As for Neros....noooo, about the only person in the town who didn't  Neros is no longer now, was closed down a few months ago. has reopened as Rumours now. possibly still dodgy...
