Sounds good to me...0 -

The secret is that I did it pretty slowly on the brakes the whole way down.
TBH, as it was dark and I didn't know the road, I'd have done the same on a freewheel.
I am a bit of a wuss like that.
Sounds like self-preservation to me...!0 -

I would like to come on saturday or sunday.0

Pfft. The two split climbs from Kingston Gate beat me. Was almost at the top both times but I was going so slowly I was barely moving, and rather than risk toppling over, I walked the last few yards.
I'm now in the cafe drowning my sorrows. With a Ribena.0 -

Go back and do it again.
(The difficulty with that hill is that, because it's short and sharp, it doesn't get easier, just faster the more you do it, which hurts anyway. For example: I'm never warmed up when I get to that hill in the morning and after trying to go up reasonably quickly, well, talk about clearing the lungs... )FCN 2-4.

Which one's that, or indeed which ones are they? The bit through the trees where it flattens out between two hills? I have no idea... :oops:0 -
That's the steep one just after you turn hard left at the roundabout. The other hill is between Roehampton Gate and Richmond Gate and is shallower, longer hill with the roundabout at the topFCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0

Ah, I think I know which you mean.
If you describe it as steep it would definitely be one of the ones I climbed with difficulty! I think I probably crested the last one up to Richmond gate at about 1mph... :oops:0 -
Hi all.
Whats it like down at Richmond Park ? Im over in Essex and looking for a few extra rides here and there, something different. Sounds like there is the odd 'lovely' hill climb everyone seems to like, what other sort of features are down at the park to keep it interesting ??0 -

Suicidal deer and bunnies...0 -
Long as the bunnies are pink with fluffy little tails and the deer dont have a lust for meat the day i pop down, i`m cool with that =o)0

It's only a large park with a road running around it. In the scheme of things it's nothing, just an open space Londoners go doolaly about because we are starved of trees and grass and fluffy bunnies.
It's not the be-all and end-all of cycling. It's ironic that in the time it takes to knock out 6 loops you could have ridden out to Windsor or the Chilterns or Surrey Hills.0 -
Gavin, Spen is already here to be grumpy, you're going to need a different schtick0

anyone for sunday?0

No, Spen's role is somewhere between being precise and nitpicking. I see myself as being this forums Norman Stern OBE, with a sideline in Tory baiting.
Oddly, I cannot ever remember disagreeing with a single post Spen has made here - quite remarkable really.0 -

I was tempted, as I hate unfinished business, but I had to swim straight after the ride, and then run, and do it all again tomorrow, so common sense prevailed...0 -

If that's common sense, the alternative must be quite horrific.
I could be up for doing it again this Sunday. Forecast looks promising, so if I can restrict meslef to a relatively booze free Saturday evening I'll put in an appearance.0 -

This Sunday's out for me, as is all next weekend. Will be pootling around tomorrow on the road bike (higher saddle, pumped up tyres, big ring up front, so a little faster than last week ), but not sure what time yet. If anyone wants to meet tomorrow, give me a shout.0 -
Hey Jen, I'm meeting mates to ride at 9am tomorrow but after that, say 10.30/11ish, I may well be up for more. What time were you thinking of being there?
PM me if it might be possible and we can swap details etc.0 -

TBH they're not exactly hills. Park is good because it's a nice loop with no traffic lights and can be nice and quiet early mornings. Unfortunately cars are allowed in the Park which is annoying as there's a 20mph limit and they can get in the way!!- 2023 Vielo V+1

They're not hills at all, I just can't get to the top of them easily.
Having run around RP for a year or two now, we always used to refer to the slight inclines as hills, but since running on the West Highland Way a couple of times, they are definitely *not* hills in RP.
They're just not flat enough for me to ride properly0 -
They're too short to be proper hills, if we're talking kind of 5%+ being a hill. The biggest one, from top to, well, not quite bottom but where the slope tails off a good deal, is probably 200 yards. They're still exhausting if you're going round at anything near your top speed, though if you're pootling they actually make quite a nice change.0
