so what is considered a good lap time??
There's a thread on road that has a list of 3 lap times - think the best is sub 1 hr?
Blondie - you were slow? I was way behind you!0 -

The "lozenges" were 1980's Time titan magnesiums with matching shoes:

A fast lap is 16mins if you happen to be an Elite RRer by the name of Andrew Bye. The rest of us are not so quick

I was hoping to do a lap under 20mins this morning, but disappointingly only managed 20:53 which I'm blaming on the headwind up Sawyer's hill. The social ones were a resonably consistent 23:57, 23:49 and 23:27 if anyone's interested.
Really enjoyed the ride home. It drizzled pretty much all the way, but slicing through static London traffic on a decent bike in all yer cycling gear is rather good fun.0 -
The only bit I enjoyed about the ride home was walking in the front door and having a nice hot shower. I was getting pretty cold at the cake stop and didn't warm up on the ride home. The ride itself was great though, and as social as last time. Thanks all for the company!FCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0

Jen J wrote:Rob and I were talking about taking MTBs around the 'yellow brick road' path one weekend - anyone else interested?
Will be a pootle, as there's loads of peds on the path, and I think there are speed limits (10mph?) the whole way round, but it'll be a change of scenery...
Probably one lap of RP, then across to Wimbledon Common where it should less busy, and have nicer trails.
I'd be up for that/this0 -

The bit in RP you'd probably be fine on a road bike! (I just wouldn't use mine)
Wimbledon Common I'm not sure about, as I don't know exactly which paths are cycle path, and how muddy they are (I've only ever run around there) but I'll have a look around when I run there this weekend.0 -

Cross bike is fine.
Just don't go tearing around the track. It gets busy with runners, peds, peds with prams and mtbers. This makes it difficult to ride side by side or have a conversation.
One option would be to cut through the middle of the Park and use some of the tracks around Penn Ponds. Lots more space.FCN 2-4.

Sooo from the information provided here it sounds like I need a new bike, a cross bike, super!
many thanks all, I was looking for a reason.Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

For the MTB ride the most fun bit for me is after the yellow brick road you leave via Robinhood Gate, play Frogger across the A3 and then take on the muddy track at the bottom of Wimbledon Common, leading to the nice hill up to the golf course at the top. When its muddy its great fun tearing along there, barely in control with the stream on one side and the woods on the other.
Sorry, I've just realised what forum I'm in

Why are we even bothering with the yellow brick road? Why don't we just do Wimbledon Common? Could meet by the Windmill - there's a cafe there for drinks afterwards.
I tried to look at cycle paths online, but it ever so helpfully says you can look at maps there or from the rangers office :?0 -
I did the yellow brick road on a road bike hundreds of times, and only got one puncture, and the only accident I had was because of a dozy fellow cyclist choosing the same bit of path as me.0

I'm not sure what parts of the common are open to bikes and what aren't. Nothing to stop us exploring though.FCN3: Titanium Qoroz.0 -

To avoid any road kill, there's the bridge at Robin hood gate, or the tunnel up from Roehampton0 -

Exactly. If you're intent on crossing the road, the only viable option is to wait for a hack to come out of Stag Lodge Stables, when they have a lollipop lady to stop the traffic. But I'm a grown up :P
Anyway...to get with the organising...
Next 'usual' RP ride is 30th November, yes?
We also want a MTB ride on WC/RP and a fixed RP ride where LiT can show off her expertise and I'll show off the lack of mine.
Any idea on dates for MTB and fixed rides?0 -
Not just fixed, SS are more than welcome too!
And I'm no expert, my god I'm slow up the hills...0 -

Nah - that's cheating
And I walked up the hill :oops:0 -

I have a couple of my brother's old MTBs - when it's organised I can bring you one from Essex - you're nearly the same height.
It'll be like being a teenager again!0 -

Or I have one you can borrow No sus though, none of my bikes have suspension :twisted:0 -
Suspension = immediate loss of half your MTFU points. (why does this feel like Dungeons & Dragons?)0
-
Well if you want to MTFU on my 18 year old Kona Fire Mountain you're more than welcome!! It's steel and weighs more that a full sus bike...Looks great weighs a tonne0

Hmmm...after all this chat about a MTB ride, I think I've decided to sell mine.
All the training I do for DIUK will be on the road, and tbh I'm scared to get back on the thing since I fell on my first ride. And it's so heavy. And scary. And it's pink.
Anyone know someone looking for a pink almost new Ladies Medium MTB?0 -
Is there an RP ride on Sunday? I know it was mentioned before but don't know if anything's confirmed?
Just I've had an offer for Sunday that I'd quite like to take up, but would put a group ride first..
And if anyone ever gets round to doing a MTB ride, I probably won't be there as my MTB is currently being ebayed :roll:0 -
Jen, there is an MTB graveyard at mine in Essex, my brother goes through them like socks.
I'm sure there's one in your size...0 -

I'm selling mine as I'm too scared to ride it
Don't suppose your brother wants to buy a new one? Although it is a ladies one. And pink...;)0 -

I can't make RP this weekend I forgot i'm taking my wife to a spa in Ireland for her birthday and I might have a Guinness or two, three, four
I was just thinking to myself last night that I should sell my MTB, I only rode it once this year and as per every other ride I picked up a puncture.
Jen what's you ebay item number?Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

Cool, I'll go with the other plan - I think it was only you and me that confirmed we would be there on Sunday.

Anyone for a lap or two this afternoon?
With the right timing you could arrive at tonight Morpeth Arms Christmas party just as everyone arrives.
