Managed to buy the wrong non-SK version of the Gravel King tyre, so all hanging on a successful repair of the holed tyre whilst I await a replacement SK from Merlin. The Rema puncture repair stuff and sealant arrived today so will see if the patched tyre holds air tomorrow. Some seem to suggest also supergluing a section of old inner tube over the patch. Cant hurt so will try that as well. Rare day off on Friday so hoping for a longish gravel ride over the Marlborough Downs. Shame it's now raining!

    ?

If you’re going to do that , why not just use a standard tube patch? Much simpler than cutting gluing faffing with old inner tube...

I ended up doing the patch, then overlaid a square of cut up old tube with superglu. Didnt take any time to do, and left overnight to cure. Just refitted the tyre and seems fine. New tyre actally due for delivery tomorrow (go Merlin!), but will ride the repaired tyre first and see if it holds...

I don't have any experience with ale clothing. Are they typical Italian fit as with castelli ans sportful?

Noticed this jersey on a bobshop e-mail, and went and bought from CRC, could not resist.

    Nabbed the last small.
PBK used to stock their kit, but looks like they are winding down, s very few items now :-(

Fit on this is frustratingly relaxed, so has to go back.
Then Startfitness had this reduced from £115 to £45, plus discount etc.

    Hey Monda,

yes I would say definitely an Italian fit, from my experience, the jerseys size one or perhaps half a size smaller than Castelli, so a Medium Ale would equate to a Castelli Small.
Bib wise, I would say they seem to be an even match there, I wear small in both.

I really really rate Ale kit, for me it fits really well, and seems to be excellent quality - maybe more the summer kit than the winter kit, as I have a fair bit of Castelli heavy duty kit for the winter months, but I'll be interested to see how this jacket feels like when it arrives.
And if you land it in a sale, the vfm is phenomenal.
If you are after a race fit, I think it's the PRR range you want to look at.

I have a fair few of their jerseys, just love their designs, mostly short sleeve, also have a few mesh base layers, and a wind stopper gilet.
Only bought a pair a first pair of bibshorts late last year from PBK, ended up being less than half price I think, and have worn them twice this year, and the old cliche about them not crossing my mind rings true, really comfy, fit well, and pad stays planted.

Those gravel (Cargo?) shorts look interesting L2R, please do feedback.
Where did you buy them from?

Scott jersey from above not a good fit, so that's going back too along with the Nalini.

I noticed this jersey, and then saw it came in XS, which i have never seen before as a size option from them, so decided to give it a go, and am pleased I did.
Sometimes I find that jerseys don't look as good in the flesh as in pictures, due to the lighting perhaps, but fortunately on this occasion, it looks better than in the pictures - rarely goes that way for me!

Some of the stuff arrived today but unfortunately the bib short combo haven't turned up yet. Id also ordered the non-bib version of the shorts, called their Flint bike shorts and they're pretty nice TBH, so reckon the bib versions will be ace. Best bit was sale price at 49.99, down from rrp of 180! Nice merino beanie for a tenner too.

Heard of them, but didn't realise they did cycle kit. Shame that bib combo is out of stock now, huge bargain if they fit for you, hope they do - in the event they are too small, you know who to call :-)

I’ve got a couple of la passione club jerseys on route , DHL have just collected them from Italy and they claim to be delivering by the end of tomorrow. We’ll see!
Only issue is that I’ve gone for a size medium, I’m normally a large in LP but customer services say the club tops are a more generous fit. Another we’ll see!

Ha, wonder who got there first, Scott or Aussie Grit? Not sure I could carry off those in blue!
Sadly received an email from AG just now advising of their imminent demise (online shop still operating until 30 June though). Just sent back a large gilet and bibshorts so hope I get the appropriate refund. The medium bibs and gilet fit nicely and are lovely bits of kit. Their merino beanie for £6 is a steal. Sad to see them go...

yes a good call, they do look pretty similar - I did want black, but the smallest size for them was medium, where as these came in small - will try them at the weekend.

They some out in a pretty nice, to my mind, slate grey colour, so actually pretty pleased with them.

I'm going to try and go on some grael rides later this year, so will use them for that, and may look to get a gravel bike at the end of the year - I see the Topstone Carbon lefty is not due until the end of the year, so it might coincide really well.

What a shame to hear they are going to be no more, I would certainly hope you get your money back, potentially protection through CC or paypal if not.

I recently got £60 back from paypal where a retailer sent me part of an order, and then the second part never arrived. I tried many attempts at contacting them, but then they stopped reading my messages, and I realised I only had a finite amount of time to raise it with paypal, so did so, they also failed to contact the retailer, and I now have my money back.

Pleased to report that the baggy bibs fit me really well in small.

No silicone grippers on the undershort part, but I don't think that will be an issue, a pleasingly long leg as well, I thought from the pics they might be bit short, but virtually down to my knee, maybe a couple of inches shy of the extra long Castelli Omloop.

For £53ish, pretty pleased with them.

How does sizing compare to say Castelli? How robust does the baggy part feel? Wish I had seen these before I ordered the Scott glasses from them, still tempted even though I really shouldnt be!

Some Mavic stuff going a bit cheaper at Sportspursuit, after they announced they were in trouble. Thought I needed a couple of slightly looser tops to go with the new "gravelly baggies", and also due to some significant lockdown weight gain (much longer days working at home, including most weekends, and limited shopping opportunities equalling a rubbish diet, oh, and drinking much more alcohol - recipe for disaster unless I sort myself out, huh?!)

Imho, half a size up from Castelli - the undershort material is different to that which you would normally expect, they don't compress as much.
Difficult to say on the short outer, it's pretty thin, but looks like it should handle a bit of rough and tumble.

    Don't forget EXTRA10 to lop 10% off.

Which glasses did you go for, the photochromic ones I posted?
I ordered a pair too, and a couple of their other ones, the leaps are one of my favourites, really well made imho.

Yeah - the Spur glasses. I love photochromic and have a bunch of Tifosi ones. My son wants some and was looking at this sort of style costing alot more money so thought I would take a punt - if he doesnt like them then I might...!

When you say "half a size up from Castelli" do you mean they are half a size bigger for the same stated size or that you need to order half a size bigger than you normally would in castelli? Just dont want to misread what you said.

The leaps are good eh? Seem cheap so might take a punt on them if I decide to try the shorts.

I have just got my pair, and very nice they are too, they will be my commuting and or gravel glasses I reckon - good coverage.

Photochromic rules eh, once you've tried it, you never go back I believe.
Bit like the camelbak podium for watterbottles, or bib shorts over shorts!

Ah yes sorry, could have been clearer - so in my opinion, a small in most Castelli shorts would be equivalent to a small and a half from Scott - basically Scott sizes seem more roomy than the equivalent from Castelli - or at least for these shorts.

Hope that clears it up :-)

I have the Leaps in photochromic form, and they are superb, easily as good as my radar locks - what I would say is they are probably more suited for smaller faces, of which I have one, so for me the likes of Jawbones for example look way too wide.
The leaps are great value imho, and I bought a black pair with darkish lenses just as casual ones to try and keep the pollen at bay.

Ive been thinking about getting a couple of these la passione jerseys but had heard the pockets arent great. Too saggy. Id love to know your opinion and if theyve improved them. I have a rapha pro team jersey i love but when i fill the pockets they sag and it feels like everything will fall out, due to this i only wear it on short sharp rides

    Hey Monda,

I'm a huge fan of their bib shorts, having more than a couple of pairs of their Classic short, which I don't think exist anymore, the pads on them are pretty much up there with the best imo.

I only have one other LP jersey, but that was bought earlier this year, and is a winter one, so it hasn't been worn yet.

I always utilise my rear jersey pockets, but it's probably not heavy stuff - usually:
mini pump, hankie, mobile phone, credit card and cash (Occasionally a stuff jacket) and then food in the final pocket.

I've never bought any mitts from them, so will be intrigued to see that they are like - my current favourite brand of mitt is Giro.

It has just shipped today, so hopefully have them by Thursday.

I have 3 of their jerseys, the pockets are fine. Rode from Kingston to Peterborough on Sunday morning, had a phone in one pocket, food/gels in another, not once at any point did it remotely feel like what I was carrying wasn't secure.

TBH I would rate the Rapha pocket construction as about the best on the market - certainly a bit better than the two LP jerseys I have - so a bit surprised to hear you've had that issue. Have you definitely got the right size Rapha jersey? The pro team stuff is meant to be pretty snug fitting.

Yeah, size large, which is more or less an aero fit on me. Normally carry a pouch with cyclinders, tyre levers etc, tube, phone, snacks. I have to put my phone and pouch in same pocket to pack it out for fear of the phone bouncing out if i hit a bumpy section of road. My le col pro jerseys are much much better in my opinion.
