Anyone got any idea is Halfords are still delivering online orders? I’ve twittered them and heard nowt.

I bit the bullet and bought one of the last smart turbos I could find. I want it now!!!!!

Yeah, I received an order of a kids bike from them yesterday after ordering it on Sunday

Yeah twitter is ablaze with people venting at them for lack of communication, which no one is replying to.

Nothing has come today, order tracking hasn’t been updated either.

I’m just assuming it will get here eventually, I’d like it soon, but I’m not desperate desperate.

you were lucky, I've been searching high and low for a trainer to no avail, well unless I'm prepared to drop £500+ on one

Have to say I saw this shortage coming and bought the last Kickr core from Sigma and sold my Vortex smart.

Talking of shortages as there are no home delivery slots from anyone down here we're forced to go to the supermarket, which is fine and quiet however today I noticed that everything is low in stock now not just the tins and dry goods, almost no beer left and reduced fresh fruit & veg.

Out of interest I had a look at Amazon's food service, nothing!

I think the messages about the food supply chains being fine is total BS, we've seen local services disappear over recent years to the point where our only options are the big chains stores and online, might be time to make myself a bow.

That's £500 more than I want to spend on a trainer; went to Tesco's last night - beer supply still looks fine here.
  • To be honest I can’t understand why there would be a shortage of turbo trainers now. Surely if you like to turbo you would have one for the winter not buying one now. Today when out on my daily exercise bike ride I spotted more cyclists than normal. So looks like lots more folk are cycling outside. Are lots more folk posting turbo rides? If they are I haven’t noticed.

Anyway just bought new bottle cages for the summer bike Elite Vico again, they are good value and new tubeless tyres GP5000TL 28s from Merlin. Tyres went on fine and inflated first time with track pump no need to bring out the tyre booster.

I bought one so the whole family could jump on... it also makes for a very efficient home workout, meaning the one time I’m allowed out can be shared with kids, dog and wife on a walk or kick about.

Have to say, I’m really enjoying the Novo Smart I picked up from Halfords together with Zwift. Things have moved on since the days of my dumb trainer a few years back.

These are worldwide figures, but the highest number of "riders" on Zwift at any one time has gone up from 16000 in January to 24000 this weekend

Aha! That’s the issue I was just about willing to drop £500 on one. It’s been on my mind since zwift appeared, and with the prospect of being stuck indoors for a month or two I decided now was the time to pull the trigger.

I can’t wait though, I’ve had my DPD notification to say it’ll be here tomorrow so I’ll ride my dumb trainer tomorrow and then the rest of the week I’ll be fully sim biking.

Looking at the scheduled rides on zwift I could do a race everyday if I wanted before work. Happy days.

I’ve had to do a couple of factory spin downs on the KICKR since getting it but now it’s seems to be working as expected, I wouldn’t say it’s millions of times better than the vortex it replaced although it does react quicker to gradient changes and is a hell of a lot quieter which means I can now hear the movies I’m watching.

There’s a belt noise as well as a rough chain line drum, I’m not sure if the belt noise is normal but I do know the chain line rattle is because I’m using my old skool steal with a cold set 130mm 10 speed rear, so chain line is never 100%

I might put the CAAD 12 on it or the Trek again

Turns out the vortex was pretty good anyway it just does do sudden changes very well. Trisports on eBay is the wiggle outlet they almost always have budget turbos for sale

One of those cadence sensors from Halfords...need to move a speed/cadence combo from the winter bike to the turbo mule, and put the new cadence sensor on the winter bike and use GPS speed readings instead

Collected tonight. Had a chat with the sales guy at the main doors, sounds like they'd had a stressful day with 100's of online orders for "1 x sponge" etc. My local store is close to Dysons research facility in Malmesbury and apparently they donated an emergency order of 100's of car-type fuses to them earlier in the week as they were urgently needed for the new low cost ventilators they're reportedly developing. Sounds like the locals (all stood 2 metres apart waiting their turn outside the store) were pretty grumpy that Dyson were allowed to jump the queue! Nice story if true, hope the local Halfords lads weren't victim of a scam and the fuses are now on Ebay...

A Garmin Varia Radar and some SIS recovery powder from Halfords, it seems I may need a smaller saddle bag for it to fit and perhaps use a small frame bag I bought a while ago.
I hate putting things in my jersey pockets hence the bags.

Be wary of the tensioner wheels; I bought a pair of GTX Raptors which were really nice (once you got used to putting them on) to replace a 10 yo pair of Winter boots. Used for maybe 4 weeks and I noticed that the screw holding the tensioner wheel on was a bit loose. Tightened it up, complained to the retailer, who said bring it in, so I did, they proclaimed all good to go, a day or so later, I'd forgotten to check the screw....

Now have a pair of boots, one of which cannot be used owing to the lack of tensioner wheel. In hindsight, I should have taken the screw out and either damaged the thread or added Loctite to stop it coming loose. Ho hum, now have a dispute with the retailer as I want my money back from a shoddy design.

2 sets of AA/AAA battery powered moon nova 80+ pulsar lights from cycle republic for the kids to use.
Umm'd and ahh'd over USB rechargable or battery, decided on the latter because the kids don't do much night/evening riding at present, and would rather ensure that i can always throw new batteries at them rather than be unable to ride because the lights aren't charged.
(I've got something like 40 AA and 30 AAA stay charged rechargable batteries that i keep topped up around the house)

4x Inner tubes and a couple of pairs of Clarks brake pads just arrived from Merlin. Waiting on a Bryton Aero 60 to arrive from Tredz too to finally replace my temperamental Wahoo RFLKT.

Converting my Audax bike to hill climbing, as long distance is over for the foreseeable future... so 6701 cassette in place of Tiagra, Selle Italia SLR in place of the Brooks C15 and a pair of supersonic inner tubes... should be over a pound lighter... I've also bought a pair of 180 gram TT tyres, but they are race only, with no puncture protection

Shimano RP901 SPD-SL shoes. They are gorgeous, comfortable and SO LIGHT. Saving them for weekend club rides so I don't have to spend Saturday evening trying clean the mud off my commuting SPD shoes, when I get the matching pedals...and some wheels!

Okay I thought I was imagining it but now I'm sure that general cycling parts have gone up in price and are becoming hard to find stock, I get that demand for turbo trainers but now I'm struggling to even find things like pedals and when I do they're more now than they've ever been.

I'm concurring with this. There is massive demand for parts now as people seem to be fixing up old bikes and getting out on this.

I've heard there is also some CV19 impact on equipment coming into the country due to staffing/delivery issues.

    Supply and demand, innit.

Local LBS has closed, one of their members of staff has set up a mobile workshop, so thrown 3 bike wheels at him to replace spokes and true, as it's way cheaper than the 1 day worth of effort it took me to replace my last spoke.

Bike is down to 8.5kg, but I haven't fitted the lighter cassette or the TT light tyres... after which it should be around 8 kg. It's hardly the lightest hill climbing machine (5 kg is the benchmark these days), but for a couple of hundred quid cost, it's a significant weight shed
