  • LG Rafale 2 winter gloves in the Evans sale. £14, down from £35.

Cracked my pair of these out for the first time this morning, absolutely spot on - nice and breathable, but kept the cold out. Love their thin backing, so many are really chunky.

Not sure I'd take it much below 2 in them though - definitely more autumn than winter.

Ok, having ridden home in them yesterday, and in today, with temps at 17 and 10 C respectively, I've decided they aren't anywhere near as breathable as I thought. They were horribly sweaty, and I could pour the sweat out .

yes, the windproofness is nice, but not at that cost. Definitely a 6 degrees and lower glove for me.
Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

I bought that after someone on here recommended it, and it's a thing of wonder - beautifully built, good solid buttons, and the mount is fine too - also doubles as a power pack which shows a pretty enlightened approach in my mind.

Think Tredz had the best price when I bought mine, and they had just sent me a £10 off code.

  • Just when I thought I might finally get around to using 10% BC discount at CRC for a £99+ basket, they effectively give 20% off a £50 basket for new customers (new e-mail address), so I finally ordered...

    2x L02A resin br505 disc pads
Weldrite fairy repair kit with levers (needed some patches!)
Dafeet Woolie Boolie 6" medium socks

~£44 with code and TCB has tracked.

Me too, not used it on the bike properly yet but it is a thing of beauty and well thought out. I thought the mount seemed a little flimsy though and this is my main concern at this point.

Ok, so I have been a bit remiss in letting you guys know what was in the box, but the time has come.
The disclaimer is that I do feel a bit embarassed, as I appreciate I can never do this bike justice, and it's way way way beyond my abilities, but I just fell in love with it

I think every civil servant should send you a birthday card... the amount you pay in VAT alone over one year is probably enough to keep a school in rural Wales going...

So, my RS685 Hydro brakes and calipers arrived from CRC, and much as I'd hoped and expected, 'FM' did mean flat mount calipers so I've got the right ones for my frame, and they came with 'J Kit' connectors so questions of euro/uk brake setup were meaningless, as you just connect the J Kit connector to whichever side you want the brake on.

    https://vimeo.com/85855556

Managed to feed the rear caliper hose through the frame with minimal swearing - dropped a neadle and thread through the head tube hole, threaded it through the rubber hose protector, then gently tugged on it while feeding the hose from the back.

Despite the longest hose lengths not being available and it being an XL frame, it looks like I've just about got away with it on hose length too! I'm short legged so the front is pretty slammed.

Only sticking point so far is I need to order the other kind of centrelock rotor lockring - turns out for 15mm thru axle you need a different kind that locks with a hollowtech bottom bracket tool, instead of the cassette tool lockring.

    Very pleased.

Anyway, I digress - I am already making alterations, and will be working on it as time allows over the next few months, and hoping to find some time over Christmas, aiming for a maiden voyage in the spring.
I will be selling the stock wheels, and have some Mavic Cosmic Exalith wheels to replace them, just waiting for new fluro decals

Beauty! I too have a box with a similar coloured weapon inside....... it’s stashed in work whilst I try and figure out how to get it past the Mrs ....... like yourself, it’s a set of Mavic cosmic exhailths going on instead of the cosmic elites.

Nice one PJ, what is it may I ask?

Things might be moving a bit faster for me actually.

Decals should be with me tomorrow, original decals took a whole 10 minutes to remove, so planning to clean the rims with acetone tomorrow, and then assuming i'll need a decent block of time to fit the new decals, as I want to get them spot on.

Have shifted it into 39/11, and am virtually certain a 36 will need no lowering of the fd, seems to be plenty of room, and the actual radius differential must be pretty tiny.

  • https://www.evanscycles.com/shimano-105 ... e-EV219234 for the spares box, £31.49 for the 11-32 with 10% BC discount

~£27 (with BCD) if you want the 11-28, both best deals I can see out there for this cassette

  • Fizik R1s from the CRC/Wiggle eBay outlet. A few tiny marks on the sole, but 200 quid less than retail. Being kept till spring, but a quick try on has me very, very happy indeed. Proper disco slippers.

I was lucky enough to pick up the ratchet/velcro R1s on eBay, brand new, for £60 earlier this year. Best shoes I've worn by an absolute mile, they're lovely.

Was marginally concerned about the potential Evans situ and had £43 sat around on a gift card, so bought some bits for my daughter in the sale, with BC discount on top, plus 17 pennies to complete the purchase.
Cycling tights, two pairs of long finger gloves, and this rather beautiful little helmet:

Dan what's the reasoning behind moving to 53-36 and 11-30 to 11-28?

    Hi Timmy, a few reasons:
I don't like cassettes with big gaps
I'd like the option to run a bigger cassette, and realise it's potential when I eventually reach the alps
Dura ace cassettes are very pricey

Ideally I would like a 12-28, but the buggers only make it in dura ace flavour

Agree, wish more cassettes would start at 12, especially now with the subcompact 52-12 is a plenty big gear.

Timely reminder to get ours organised as well.

    Enjoy the trip!
