Cruff wrote:Isadore bibshorts via Wiggle. 25% off. Literally the best bibs I have ever owned - current pair are three years old and must have upwards of 2000 hours in the saddle in them. Still going strong, so taken the opportunity to get another pair at a great price. Also bought a couple more of their jerseys. Hardly see anyone wearing their stuff - best kept secret in cycling kit IMO
Which set of bibs did you get? There are a few different ones on there. Been looking at isadore for a while now, but not much out there about the sizing. So been a little reluctant to take the plunge.......... So far0 -

First couple of hundred miles in: flipping 'eck this is a hell of a bike... if you're shopping about in the price range and only thinking carbon.... rethink that immediately.
Agree totally i'm blown away by the performance of mine, i could even go so far as to say its better than both my Cervelo R5 and Scott CR1 SL :shock:Rule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.
Rule #9 // If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Rule #12 // The correct number of bikes to own is n+1.
Rule #42 // A bike race shall never be preceded with a swim and/or followed by a run.0 -

Have a 54 at 5'10", but with a long body and short legs then I could do with a slightly lower front end and longer stem. Anyone have a mint 52cm frameset and needs a mint 54? :roll:0 -

Do you not rate them? I had some that were good for a couple of years then the pawls disintegrated - is that common?- Genesis Croix de Fer

No, I don't take pleasure in building wheels anymore... I think I've built enough to last me a lifetime... I still enjoy fixing things... so build them, break them and I'll fix them...left the forum March 20230 -

Think you need a magician if you want to lace some hubs to some more hubs.
What you really need is a proof reader, some spokes and Roger Musson's wheel-building book...0 -
keef66 wrote:... and Roger Musson's wheel-building book...
It's a heavy read and off putting for the sake of lacing some wheels... I suggest Gert Schraner's "art of wheelbuilding"... a lot leaner and hands on, without all the unnecessary engineeringleft the forum March 20230 -

Thanks for the recommendation Ugo; I shall make a note of this! I intend to have a go at wheelbuilding when I retire, but at my age there's limited room in my head for new information. I certainly don't need to learn any unnecessary engineering.0 -

You should send me an email... I need a fast wheel to follow next year at the Brevet Cymru 400 and maybe I can persuade you it's a great idea...left the forum March 20230 -

I think I’ve asked this before and assume it’s in the other hand built wheel thread but how do you calculate spoke length and how do you know what pattern and what spokes to use?0 -

or
http://www.kstoerz.com/freespoke/fullcalc
Pattern is largely down to rule of thumb, although freespoke above will give you a 'spoke head clearance' number that tells you if the lacing you are planning is feasible (36 and 32 spoke wheels are laced 3 cross, 28 spoke is usually 2 cross but can be 3 cross depending on hub, 24 spoke and 20 spoke 2 cross etc.)
Sheldon Brown has a decent article on wheelbuilding:
