As summer of sorts has arrived and i'm doing more MTBing and longer decided that I better get a Camelbak.

    CBCLASSBG.jpg?w=430&h=430&a=7

I did have one of the early ones, though that was pre V brakes, i'm not a fan of stuff on my back really but I do need more than a bottle of water, which is the max my MTB can take.

A new chain (KMC 10.93) and an HG-500 11-32 cassette. Was very, very, very tempted by the 12:28 but bailed out after Saturday's club ride.

It's not a gamble. Cyclescheme make it very clear that it's available through their scheme.
They don't though do they? They say you can order all the safety equipment you like, nothing about upgrades/parts https://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/eops

Of course most bike shops are happy to play along but tbh if you aren't a top rate tax payer, and so the savings are less, I can't really see the point, savings versus hassle is marginal.

Ah. CYcleRepublic's site makes it clear what you can buy through them on CycleScheme.

That's the missing piece in this.

Just ordered enough cabling to redo both bikes, winter one black, the summer white.
And some compact bars to replace the decade old 'anatomic' ones on the summer bike. They are OK on the hoods and tops, but the drops offer only 2 hand positions, neither of which feel natural or comfortable so I tend not to use them.
And some Tortec super comfort bar tape in white for said new bars / white cables on the summer bike
(already have some cheap n cheerful black Deda tape for the winter beast)
Oh, and some stainless bolts to replace the rusting ones in the faceplate / stem of the winter bike.

I may have to get rid of some of the spare bike bits I'm accumulating in the garage. I was hoping I could palm some of them off on my son, but he's just bought a new carbon Cube with Ultegra...

One of the Carnac Aero Road helmets from PX, now that they're available in a large/xl for £15-
    http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/HECAAERD/c ... oad-helmet

That's a decent helmet for the money, should work well in the rain.... or for SCR.

A gold level service for the roadie. 3800 heavy, all weather miles and a ham fisted mechanic mean the bike is still complaining at me.

They are nice but I hope you like pumping tyres up as the deflate sooooo fast.

Still not sure if you can repair them either?

Yeah, driven by a post crash creak I can't get rid of, so needed an "crash report" for insurance purposes as I thought I'd cracked a weld, and just thought "sod it".

I don't mind a simple mechanical fettle, including things like replacing bottom brackets, cassettes etc, anything that requires a "by touch" tension, cup&cone hubs, I'm very uncertain about, and knowing that I'd rather spend a day at a theme park with the kids rather than trying to keep my calm while they run around me trying to recable and re-tape...

That, and knowing that I use the bike everyday and my life depends on it, I appreciate a set of experienced eyes looking it over.

I did wonder about repairs, but yet to look into it, thanks for your reminder!

Will be interesting to see how much air they lose, I'm curious about how they affect rolling resistance and their lower weight for climbing hills. ;)

I was going to buy my first set if "premium" tyres to go with them, Conti GP4000 S 2, which are £28 at wiggle iirc. Still not sure, might get one and also get a Schwalbe One or Panaracer Gravel King, a few of the South Downs cat4s are littered with loose stones/gravel.

I went from GP4000s to Mavic Tyres. Just gone back to GP4000s and can’t believe how great they are. They have transformed the bike and it’s sooooo much more comfortable and compliant now.

I had some Michelin ones years ago when I was in the cycle trade and asked about repairing them on a trade forum and the positive answer was normal feather edge patches and solution work, other than the tubes needing topping up at least once I week I didn't have any issues with them.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Well the bars and tape have arrived, but I can't fit them because I'm still waiting for the new cables. Properly annoying. Probably serves me right for picking a German ebay seller...

Still, my wife will be happy as I can get on with DIY instead

I take it all back. The cables just landed on my desk, all genuine Shimano stuff. And the pack of SS bolts to replace the rusting originals in the stem / faceplate on the winter bike turns out to be 100 rather than the 10 which I thought I'd ordered. A veritable lifetime's supply :D

Oh, and a little packet of Haribo. My faith in German ebay sellers is fully restored!
