Alpkit Gourdon, what a wonderful bit of simplicity.

And tough. Five years on and mine still looks and acts almost new.

Still getting used to having no external pockets (phone and work security card) but it makes sense to have it all inside and totally waterproof. Used to detest using a rain cover. Really comfortable but I do find the sternum strap keeps rising up, need to look for a fix on that.

Had to contact them yesterday to ask what the two small black tabs were for at the top of the bag, I couldn't fathom it out!

Not for commuting, but for a bikepacking trip in the planning:
Optimus Crux lite stove with lightweight Tera cookset. Bought 2nd hand off ebay at a bargain price, complete with titanium foldable "spork" and 2 x gas canisters. Unbelievably light, but reckon you could still go lighter at a price.

Only a sleeping bag and sleeping mat (both with as small a pack size as possible) left to get to complete the kit list. Oh, and probably a decent headtorch....

EDIT: forgot to add, 15 x Torq rhubarb & custard gels (half price from CRC) and 15 x Torq Mosaic Summer Shandy gels (half price from the Evans ebay store). Both boxes arrived today with Best Before dates of May & August 2019, which is good as i'd assumed theyd be short shelf life. Love a bargain

Kmc 11sp EL chain. £24 from Halfords, plus 10% BC discount so £21.60.

Need to keep one "in stock" as will be using my current stock chain on my 1x11 Arkose conversion. Also ordered set of Sram gear cables, outers and ferules from the Leisure Lakes ebay shop for 5.99 - only needed the rear but thought it wasn't a bad price given all ferules also included.

I have been very good for several weeks.

    Ordered 3 things.

Giro leather gloves (last pair), £60 down to about £15.
    n16309731010.jpg

Castelli Omloop thermal shorts, for £60:
    173799_01_d.jpg

Can't believe I have never noticed them before, deal breaker was spotting it had the progetto x2 air pad, which is my favourite castelli offering.
Added bonus is that it had yellow bits too 8)

And going to try a pair of these (less than 50 notes) cleated up for school run and commute, looks fairly water resistant too:

Since I already have the Castelli Omloops that Daniel B has just bought, I've decided to supplant him.

Step 1: get something green from pactimo (£24!):

    Step 2: ???
    Step 3: Profit!

In all seriousness, this is replacing my cheap Decathlon screamy orange jersey for commuting, once (if!) the good weather arrives.

Fine work Dr H. Pactimo jerseys are top drawer, and they do have some stunning deals sometimes. Imho, you may feel it is too good for commuting when it arrives.

As I have lamented many times, their bibshorts do not fit me though :-(

    Profit you say......?

    Ahahahahaha.

Does anyone know of overshoes that actually work at keeping out water for more than 10 miles?

    Not really.

They’re better than normal overshoes, but water still gets in from the top. Keeps the water very nice and warm though.

Lidl soft shell winter jacket with removable arms. Somehow down to £9 already, despite only being out yesterday.
Great sizing, the XL actually came up too big, but if rather that then too small.
Gives me a windproof jacket for 0 to 7 degrees probably, a temp range I have serious issues with at the moment.

Oh, and a chain cleaner thing.

Hmm, jacket is definitely boil in the bag type of softshell, arms were melting in it today with only a SS baselayer underneath, but with the arms off it was spot on as a windproof gilet.
Somehow it also feels like I bought a size larger than I should have done..... not managed that in cycle clothing before!

Going tubeless so new wheels, fed up up getting punctures from pot holes and the tubes having multiple nips as a result. So bought Reynolds Assault wheels and Schwalbe Pro Ones. Hoping there is no turning back or it’s an expensive experiment.

Just got myself a new commuter bike.
A Boardman Hybrid Pro which after:
    25% off in the sale
    10% off as it's ex-display
    10% BC discount
7% for paying via gift vouchers from my work scheme
Brings the new bike in at £502, can't really complain about that
  • A pair of Specialized expert alloy hover bars in 15mm flavour, should complete my set up. It means I can stay with a sensible stem angle rather than something a bit MTB like.

Got these on my tarmac. Excellent bars and the ergonomics on the hoods and the top of the bar is great.

Cycliq Fly6 CE. Tried the Aldi knock-off last year but wasn't impressed. After hearing about a few serious hit-and-runs at our club I decided the outlay for the upgraded Fly6 would be a decent insurance policy. Feels like a quality product so far, but slightly narked it doesn't come with an SD card.

Decent price from Sigma, £30 off list.

Thanks for that, good to hear. I was surprised to see that they were so aero on the tops. Looking forward to getting them fitted.

Interesting - what issues did you have the aldi one? would be quite interested in a "side by side" comparison of picture quality etc.
(Yes, the new CE one is quite a lot smaller)
