It's like driving a car with a dipped beam on a country road. You can see very well, but you can't see anything around you until you switch to full beam. But then you don't want to be driving around with full beam the whole time, as you'll dazzle people coming the other way.

I might have to get an auxiliary anti social light for my full beam use too, remembering to turn it off when someone's coming the other way.
I use a helmet light for this, the giveaway from the magazine subscription a while back. I ride across Bushy Park on the path and have the same issue so with a light strapped to my head I can look around and just dip my head a little if someone is coming the other way. Went for a ride around Richmond Park with Menthel on Monday evening and had forgotten about this, found not being able to look to the side quite disconcerting. Especially when I could smell the deer.

I used to use a helmet light. I stopped when Michael Schumacher had his accident with a helmet cam. I decided it wasn't worth the additional risk of pushing plastic bolt into my cranium in case of what could be an otherwise minor fall.

Still using my Exposure Strada this year. I keep being tempted to upgrade to the latest version but I probably don't need it (not that its ever stopped me before).

Aye, I've got a little helmet light with a custom wireless control on/off for similar reasons. Only last 30 mins, when on, but only really used for 5 mins a day.
Also acts as a beautiful attention getting laser beam when a driver considers not seeing you at a junction.

Yes, I stopped using the Exposure mount because I had a similar thought. The one I use has a flat plastic bit on the outside and a Velcro strap so I think it is better in that respect, would probably stress the crash helmet a bit more but not as bad I hope.

Anybody want to buy an Exposure helmet mount?

Mine's attached to my helmet with a couple of silicone straps, like these:
    https://www.aliexpress.com/store/produc ... 56205.html

Less solid stuff attached to helmet the better I figured, but yeah, having a spotlight to point at drivers on side roads is a bit too useful/reassuring to give up.

Is also really useful for blinding riders coming up to pass on your right when you shoulder check.

I much prefer passing riders half blind than seeing where they are.

Riders passing on my right? You've obviously mistaken me for someone who rides slowly. This would be a problem, what, once every two months? And what are the odds that I'd be shoulder checking at the same time they'd be overtaking? Presumably if I'm shoulder checking to move out then they should have the sense not to be overtaking at the same time an obstacle is ahead?

Besides, all the riders on my commute are a bunch of fair weather wimps, I won't see anyone once the clock changes.

I tried the Sportful Pista a couple of years ago when Halfords were selling them really cheap. It had a strange cut - shoulders really baggy, if I remember. Tried several sizes and none worked - took them back.

Maybe the cut has changed, but it was unlike any other jersey I have ever tried.

Just taken delivery of several Dhb bibtights and 3/4 bibtights. Keeping the DHB windslam Roubaix tights as for some reason these have a shorter leg than the others despite the sizing chart showing the same measurements. The material of the Windslam Roubiax feels the same as on Castelli's Nanoflex bibtights, a bit of a wetsuit feel.

My other decision is between the Castelli Tempesta (green) and Idro jackets I have ordered. I can see advantages of either. If the Idro wasn't black and had a longer tail, it would be no contest. I can see both being returned due to my indecision :?

Another prepping for winter with the purchase of a pair of Specialized Defroster trail shoes from Tredz.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Mine arrived today and after having a play with them I found the fit perfect and despite the height of the ankle cuff they are a lot easier to get on than another pair of Specialized shoes with Boa I have. I like the subtle reflectiveness of them though that will need regular cleaning to remain effective I guess. An added bonus was two bags of Haribo.

Hunt Race Season Aero Road wheel set. Apparently lightly used and in the pictures the Schwalbe Pro Ones fitted show no wear at all.

£280 including postage ain't bad. Should knock 400g off the Mavic Aksiums on the Endurace at the moment.

So I went ahead and bought the Trelock LS 950:

It's bright. Very bright. And I love the fact that it doesn't dazzle people coming the other way. I also love the fact that it's got a battery indicator so I can see how long I've got before it needs a re-charge. I also like the fact that it can be turned down in traffic to a lower level.

    But......

The beam is so well shaped, with so little side spillage that it lights the road perfectly for a long distance, but doesn't light anything else. You can't see when deer are about to cross the road in Richmond Park until they're right next to you.

That’s rather the conclusion I came to, since I seem to ride fairly unused paths i just slow and shield the light, which is a MTB type, for the few times that I meet any one, since the for the rest there is a lot of unlit parks and cycle paths/underpasses etc where the wide beam is very nice.

Clearly somewhere like Richmond Park is different since it is so busy, shielding a light gets very tedious very quickly, on winter socials I’ve quite often used the off-road paths to save that as it’s just not practical and I don’t want to blind people.

A pre-loved Shimano wheel to go with the pre-loved Elite trainer I got last week. Already have the trainer tyre so now all I need is an additional 10 speed casette to have it all up and running. Anyone out there got one ;)

MrsHaggis has just gifted me a Garmin Edge 25. I've then dutifully joined Garmin's app and, of course, Strava account (yes, I've done over 2000 miles w/o Strava). This thing is going to ruin my life, I can see it.

  • Got a new set of lights. Found a front one from FWE I can attach to the underneath of the k-edge go pro combo mount so no need to stick it on the bars. Also got a red one to sit on the rear go pro mount. No touching the frame or bars etc and easily be removed. Jobsagoodun!

    Rapha Classic Crochet Mitts.

My Grand Tour Mitts finally bit the dust, aided my the dog taking a liking chewing my hands when greeting me home in a evening so I tried some Galibier leather motors over the summer. They are ok; wrists openings are wide leading to flappy Velcro tabs sticking out when tightened. They are also quite thick. And slippery when wet.

I decided to splash out on the Rapha ones but was disappointed that they don't to they GT ones anymore and these looked like the closest option.

They are awesome. Like wearing a second skin. Better even that the Grand Tour mitts.

Wiggle's returns dept on eBay will be the end of me.

Wife and kids complained that the Turbo was too loud and I was keeping them up / waking them up.

Half price Tacx Neo with slight cosmetic damage.
