Still, I like the fact that it's different.0 -
You can get a bung for fitting a front guard on a rigid Lefty. Works quite well, too.0

Tenuous commuting link but I will use use it occasionally for the work run.
Tubus Tara lowrider on order for the front and just waiting for the C2W voucher to arrive so I can collect the bike.

Looks nice but the spec is a bit underwhelming? Deore? Why not Tiagra or 105? No hydraulics?
This Jamis looks a lot better specced for less money? https://www.evanscycles.com/jamis-auror ... e-EV275160x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

I looked at loads of different bikes over the last two years, including the Jamis, Trek 920 and the Genesis Tour de Fer. Each was ruled out for various reasons, road bike gearing isn't ideal for loaded touring where mtb gears really are the standard, the Jamis isn't bad in other respects but the matt paint is a bit drab (the Kona is a dark metallic red which doesn't show in the photo), the adjustable steerer is a bit of a mixed bag and I wanted the simplicity of straight cable brakes and the HYRD's aren't universally loved.
Maybe I've been too influenced by the ramblings of seasoned bike tourers but really it's a decision of the heart - I've wanted a Kona for too many years to pass up the chance.0 -

All good reasons!!! I just wanted to check that you had not missed that one! The paint does indeed look nicer on the pics, I do have a Jamis, so I am a bit biased :-)x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

I saw the Jamis on offer last week and it did cause me to do a double take, I think of all the bikes it would have been my other choice, it's very well thought out in many respects and great value at that price.0 -

Ditto, plus a 160mm sram centerline rotor to replace the one that failed somewhat catastrophically coming down Balham Hill last Friday, plus some black lizardskin bar tape because my current tape is torn, scraped and generally knackered. Pops over to Google to learn how to wrap tape......0 -
Also posted in specific helmet thread, hope it's OK to post here too.
Limar 555 arrived today and very happy with it.
Light, good features, details, and adjusters, doesn't look too mushroom, mesh, comfortable nice styling.
Limar is the new Kask I reckon.
Only slight downside, no sunglasses 'garage' but plenty of helmets have same issue, and not something I'm concerned about.Superstition sets the whole world in flames; philosophy quenches them.

You'll be fine, plus satisfying to do your own. Top tip: Concentrate on tension as you wind, which will prevent any tape movement later.Superstition sets the whole world in flames; philosophy quenches them.

Even though I've done my own bar tape numerous times I still need a reminder as to which way the tape winds on each side of the bars and tend to end up at the Bike Radar YT video. One side clockwise, the other anti clockwise and cut short lengths for the brake hoods. It takes me longer to remove the old tape than to put the new stuff on.
On the purchase front I had a look in the Cycle Surgery jumble sale in the Bristol branch that has been having a closing down sale for the last few months and bought a pair of Specialized Body Geometry gloves with thick gel padding. Couldn't give a toss that they had pink flashes on them, they fitted and were only £10 instead of £25.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0 -
A Garmin upfront mount, £15 from Halfords minus 10% British cycling, a bargain0

A Garmin 705 battery from all-batteries.
Tested my garmin with the battery from a friends one, all works, confirming it's a battery problem - happy days.
(and some more sugru for the broken screw holder on the back)Intent on Cycling Commuting on a budget, but keep on breaking/crashing/finding nice stuff to buy.

It is very lovely, but I prefer the look of the R5. I much prefer more "classic" bike styles over aero frames. Am I alone?0

Hello, Mojito0 -
My fault for going to an electric bike specialist for chamois cream (it was on my route) but they only had Endura which I've never even heard of before for this product and, at a tenner for a small tube, stupidly expensive. Hope it's good because my butt is tender these days.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0
