Well I went into the LBS to get a new valve cap. Beacuse I smiled sweetly he took one off the bike next to him in the shop and gave it to me.

Every puncture repair yeilds a spare dust cap. You have no idea how many people a day come in to get a puncture done! ;)

What about the old tubes?Do they get resold aswell?

Aswell? Never resold dust caps, they just collect in the bits tray untill you get annoyed with them. Hence giving them away.

Old tubes go binwards. Can't say there are many D/H riders around here to make good use of them.

I looked up "feminism" and it is defined as "manupulation of men by any tactic whatsoever".

    Its alive and well.
  • Just reshod the bike - my peristent puncture problem appears to be because my once robust kevlar tyres had turned paper thin with age and wear. The guy in the shop managed to find 4 separate bits of glass in the rear tyre without actually trying.

Went for Marathon + - slightly thinner than what I had (700x35 now 700x32) but doubt i'll notice much difference as the paper tyres were pretty light  Could have done without the expense before Christmas as the tyres and tubes have now become my present (as the song goes - money's too tight to mention...)

Edit - meant to add - no problem fitting them at all. A tad tight but no real bother. Having watched bicycle tutor . com I also sorted the brakes on the commute and the road bikes :D Feel quite proud of myslef as I'm usually totally inept

Have heavily worn my new rear brakes pads, surely that means I need new pads, wheels & tyres, surely...

  • Just bought a Demo 7, cheap as chips and unused, until today.

    White bikes, why oh why?

And what's up with the SRAm shifting, jesus, how bad is that, the x7 shifter pod and rear mech combine to give the worst shifts i've had since indexing was invented. Am i the only person who finds SRAM gear puts looks over performance...

The Big Earl wets were a good buy though, nice tyre, and light.

Nice bike shame about the SRAM shifters, I only had the low ends on my MTB but they were so nasty, changing down was very lets aggressive and I could never get them correctly indexed, in the end I lost my rag and replaced the whole lot with XT, cheap, easy and effective.

Hope you're not planning on sneaking up on anyone with those clunky gear changes, still a nice bike.

My old Trek helmet is getting pretty manky, so I bought myself a new lid. It's a Netti Transit like this, except in white:

    Netti-Transit-Helmet-Icon.jpg

It only weighs 26 grammes less than my old brain-bucket, but it feel much lighter, which might be a balance thing. The stupid visor unclips from proper moulded-in mountings, and Netti even supply neat little snap-in covers for the sockets. I'm happy. Except with the compulsory helmet law of course... :x

While I was at it, I also snapped up a Sigg bottle. The 750ml sports-bottles suitable for cycling are like hen's teeth out here.

Easton EC90 carbon seatpost (£146 reduced to £39! Hope there's not a scary reason for this!), some lube, some brake pads and some spare eggbeater cleats as the foot I unclip is a bit sloppy.

Can you bring it to the IOW? Mr and Mrs linsen didn't bother in the end (well not yet anyway)

Thought I would economise and learn to read a map instead!

    Will do :)

I'm hoping wiggle will pull out all the stops to deliver it tomorrow morning, so that I get it before the office closes for Christmas, and I can then go on a 70 mile Christmas Day jaunt ;)

Some bits and bobs to celebrate the new bike (which I'm still waiting for  )

    - Endura neoprene overshoes
    - Endura gilet, yellow
    - Endura ss top, can't remember which one
    - Endura shorts (the expensive roadie ones)

So that's my contribution to the Scottish economy. Scottish company, Scottish weather - their stuff does seem to work

    - HH base layers (one black, one ice blue)
    - some SKS chromoplastic mudguards
    - Specialized toupe (normal bum width, black)
