SLX chainset about to be fitted - that's almost every single bit of my drivetrain now replaced!
  • I don't think my derailleur is strictly compatible with the rest of the stuff it, er, needs to be compatible with on the tourer, and the chain needs replacing, and probably so does the cassette (which is not a cassette, it's a old-style freewheel) so I've been a-ebaying and bought:

    *a new Shimano Tourney derailleur
*a new Shimano 7 spd freewheel
    *a new Wipperman chain
*a Park freewheel removing tool to unscrew said Freewheel

When they arrive later in the week, and you hear screams of frustration, that'll be me when a) I can't get the freewheel off and b) I can't get the gears indexed properly. Luckily I am not riding this bike over winter anyway, so there's no pressure to get this finished all in one go if I can't manage...the winter hybrid is taking the strain at the moment. That's one *really* good thing about having two bikes, I've discovered...

Persevere for a bit. Most clipless pedals I've had loosen up after a couple of weeks usage. I've been known to do a few unnecessary controlled unclips just to hasten this up a bit...

Emerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome
  • Not really, i do love them so though i usually call them "good girl" or "c'mon baby"

Gladys looks like a bit worldly, maybe she could help with real names :?:
  • Just bought a Torch Highbeamer dual-bulb front lamp with rechargeable lead-acid battery pack (nothing like as heavy as I expected!!) at a bargain price, which has revolutionised my ride home from work, most of which is on unlit country roads. Whereas with the old Cateye battery front light I took the shortest route for safety reasons as even with fresh alkaline batteries things were a bit dim, I'm now back to doing the sort of long evening loops I was squeezing in before the clocks changed. Great fun! :D:D:D

Bike went in and decided I need a new right shifter too so thats now (this week):

    New cassette (SRAM PG770)
    New chain (SRAM 971)
New front AND rear shifters (both X-7 to X-9 - X-9 is a LOT better!)
    New gear cables (all XTR)
New bars (not needed but it looked nice - BBB carbon straight oversized)
New chainset (new SLX, triple chainring)

Oh and new chain lube, more tyre levers (for Mrs Matt to use) and a few more inner tubes!

1 x Altura Night Vision Jacket
1 x Cateye Bracket (so I can use my EL600 Single Shot+ on my commute bike)
    1 x Cateye LD610 Rear Light

Gave up cycle commuting in Sept and have started again after being inspired by the SCR thread. Have ridden in every day this week after MTFU'ing up.
