Picked up a Topeak Joe Blow Sport track pump today. I'd been struggling along with an ancient Blackburn hand pump until now, the Joe blows it away (sorry). Got my new slicks up to the recommended 95psi very quickly and no problems.
Today is a good day to ride

  • Deda Newton Stem and a set of Deda Newton Shallow bars for road bike to replace lethal Look titanium stem/Cinelli 64 bar combo. Total cost new somewhere in the region of £130 but I got it on eBay for £50. Only problem is a titanium hex bolt on the stem that contains no hex! It's completely smooth inside! Weird, just tightened it up first and the rest take up th slack and it's solid. If I don't die I've got a bargain.

I too have just ordered the Specialized tricross single from Pearsons. Should arrive on Wednesday. I am looking forward to my first exploration of all things fixed (as I have ordered a 16T fixed sprocket as well).

    Can't wait!! :D

Just received a couple of Tess LS baselayers from LewisKit. They're on sale :)
I also seem to have ordered a Planet-X SL Pro Carbon C18. How did that happen? Mouse finger must have slipped.

Ta. I rememered you extolling the virtues of the LewisKit stuff. Then saw an ad in one of the cycling mags, browsed and they were on sale. Bargain :)

Been humming and hawing about getting a bike to race on for a while. That would make me a Cat4 newbie and a bit worried about crashing/being brought down on my Scott.
1K for a 7.5kg bike is pretty good :D (may now need to go on a bread and water diet for a bit)

Yeah, I was pretty tempted myself a couple of years ago. Which Scott do you have?

The last thing you need is only bread and water. :)

Ta. The CR1 is good chassis :) Luckily, I got mine cheap(-ish) in an end of season sale. That purchase pretty much kick-started my cycling renaissance, even though it stayed inside until the next spring ;)

Yep, I read good things about the chassis before buying it and even a lump like me has found very responsive. Did the same thing as you - waited until the sale and they had released the 2007 range (one with the Addict).

    sigh!!!

Worse still I've just completed the calculations on my remaining projects and it would seem that I could buy a Spesh Tricross and reuse the parts for about the same cost.

Damn! then that leave me with a frame, seatpost & seat, bars and wheels which would mean another build project, oh! will it never end

2 brake cables (the previous one's were "racing" ones- ie. lightweight due to bits fraying off- not good down baths hills!), ends for the same, finish line bike cleaner

Still waiting on closer-ratio casette, tools for replacing it.

Need/want: New chain (my SRAM one replaced in october seems to be rusting internally, judging by the colour of muck it's dumping everywhere) and fulcrum 5s (the £131 ones)

Ha, the reason I'm busy is that I've got an extra curricular project in that paid for the BeOne, so I really do have to work at it  It'll make that first ride all the sweeter if I've to wait for it a bit, I guess.

In God's name, man, make time! Sleep is optional. Family time is not even a consideration. There is a new bike in your garage- a NEW BIKE!!!!

I'm already down to 4 or 5 hours sleep. Wife? Yes, I think I have one somewhere.

    New bike? I know *cries*

I might get a look at it this weekend, if the kitchen demolishment goes quickly. Anyone want to help  ?

My other half accuses me of "wrecking the kitchen" when I use it as a bike maintenance venue. You could kill two birds with one stone. :)

personally I don't see what the problem is - use cold oil in small quantities, whereas she uses all manner of hot, corrosive substances in large volumes in the kitchen and gets away with it without any grief from me.....

But I did notice there's a short-sleeve version of the shocking pink top I bought (and so sexily modelled in the IOW) currently available on ebay:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ACE-RV-KORBACH-LA ... 0341890711

That is such an awesome colour, I love it :D

What's the quality like on those? It seems extremely cheap.

Bear in mind it's a 2nd-hand vintage jersey, not a new line. The long-sleeve one I bought seemed fine quality-wise - I'm spending between £1 and £10 on the jerseys though, and almost entirely cos they look pretty, so tbh I'm not too fussed about the quality. I have now bought 10 ( ) vintage jerseys off ebay and have been happy with all but one which was my fault as I didn't consider the sizing. Actually I might re-ebay it soon, and let you all know :)

Biondino, ta for the ebay tip! Just bought a couple myself... can see what my pocket money's going on for a while! Didn't quite manage to go for pink tho'

BOB, I'll show you my latest purchases if you show me yours! It'll suck if we start competing for them, though...

(today I am wearing one of my vintage jerseys in the office as I forgot my sweater, oops. Luckily it's neither the luminous pink one (which I very nearly chose) or anything too unpleasantly garish. Still feel a bit of a fool, mind...)

What could go wrong with a friction shifter? Nice simple things they are (Apart from the cable pinging halfway through an audax when you don't have a spare cable/cable cutters, ahem, but that wasn't the shifter's fault).

I bought the dhb ladies glasses off wiggle, but it's a shame they don't have any clear lenses. Do they think women don't cycle at night? They have dark, pink and blue lenses, but I'm really not sure there is much to choose between the pink and blue, which are for overcast and cloudy conditions respectively, and I'm not sure what the difference is. They'd surely have been better sticking a clear lense in there.

(And yes I need ladies ones, because I have a smaller head, and I'm not buying the expensive ladies ones from Rudy Project or Oakley because I will only lose or break them).

I do already have clear specs, from Aldi, but being from Aldi, they make me look like a frog. Bloke fell about laughing when I put them on. P*ss-taking bastid.
