Name is darren obviously, i live in the lower half of cornwall im 35 and a self confessed tech nerd hence why you see me in the led thread on occasions handing out advice, oh and i like to think i can ride decently.

Bike is obviously an anthem x, it's a mish mash of top bits from my tomac was an x3 in the beginning though.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

    Hello all,

I'm James from South Wales, relatively new to the forum, much like Pistonheads for bikes (hope the ops are happy with the comparison) very informative site with lots of areas for all aspects of riding.

This is my first £1000+ full susser; my GT I-Drive 5 XCR from Halfords (I actually got the GT for £799 with 20% off) I spend £100 on extras and this is end result

    DSCN1234.jpg

I've had it for a few days now and have been tweaking the suspension (Fox rp2 rear and Rock Shox Recon 327 Air Forks on the front) and adjusting the bar ends etc. Today I took it out for the first proper ride to see how it is in the real world. I've found a few things I'm not happy with (not the bike just my preference) The suspension is way too soft front and rear, the I Drive works very well with the pro pedal on but the front bobs like (insert inapropriate Jenna Jameson link here) so it needs hardening up. Unfortuanely although I have two pumps and every attachment known to man nothing fits the valves so I can't adjust it atm. The other thing I'm wanting to change is the handlebar hight. It's far too low for my liking, downhill it feels like I'm always a degree away from going over the front so i'd like to raise it. I'm hoping the Juicy 3s get a little better when bedded in.

This is the view halfway up the fields around Thornhill going up Caerphilly mountain this afternoon

    Image068-1.jpg

The weather got pretty bad at the top of the mountain as captured here

    Image069.jpg

And this is me enjoying the fine weather were having currently

    Image070.jpg

At this point I decided to travel back the way I'd came and enjoyed the very steep decent through farmers fields (public footpaths) to rejoin excalibur drive near to where I live. On the downhill I lowered the seat as much as I could which ofset the lowend feel but the front is still too low for my liking. The Maxxis Ignitors held up very well, only loosing traction on very muddy parts when going across fields at a steep angle. I was impressed by the amount of grip they gave on the way down under hard braking on wet grass, I had far more grip than I needed to stop without loosing traction on the front.

This it the GT washed after my ride.

    Image071.jpg

All in all happy with the bike, just needs a good set up now to suit my style. I can't wait for me and the boys to go to Cwmcarn and spend a few hours going through the forest. Might see some of you there.

    Thanks for reading.

    I'm Alex, I'm a 23 year old mountainbiker.

I'm club secretary for The Racers Guild of Cannock Chase who are the midlands area british cycling DH club, and we run month timed practice days for our members and guests.

I'm also an avid trailbuilder, both downhill (I built Wonderland at Cannock) and I've been building cross country trails with Chasetrails since 2003. I've designed two and a bit sections of the new Phase 2 trail.

In between all that, I find time to race downhill, 4X and Enduro.

I have four bikes,an Intense Socom, Cove Foreplay, Specialized Stumpjumer FSR and a Specialized Allez.

I pride myself on being a good all round rider. I'm not up to winning races, but I'm good enough that I can get on any bike on any trail and enjoy it without fitness or skills holding me back, which means that every single time I go riding, I have fun.

    iidyu0v1t.jpg
More pix of bikes/racing here: http://penktrials2.pinkbike.com/

All that looks like one hell of an ego trip right? What am I looking for? A medal?
Not in the slightest. Every single thing I do, I do for me, because it's damned fun. If you're not involved with a club, go do it. It's brilliant. If you've not been trailbuilding, find your local trailbuilding group and go learn, there's no greater feeling than riding something you've built.

I'm me because I've gotten stuck in, and I get a hell of a lot out. Give it a go.
  • Hi there, I'm Ian. I live in the Highlands of Scotland, so loads of top trails right on the door step. My new ride is a Marin Mount Vision which I got just before taking part in the Relentless24 race at Fort William. My Marin East Peak is for sale now, but my GT Zaskar is mine forever!

  • Hi I'm Rich, 32 from Littleborough which sits conveniently at the foot of the Pennines.

I ride pretty much anywhere I can from bridleways to trail centres, my job also lets me chuck the bike in the car and ride after I've visited customers so I get about a bit.

I ride for Team Cake, a foursome of avid cake fans and cyclists. Between us we've competed at SITS, Bristol Bikefest and various others with our best result at Hit The North where we finished 9th in our catagory (sport men)

    I'm number 95

Hi, i'm James, 13, from Busbridge in southwest Surrey, near the surrey hills :D
I ride a Rockrider 5xc, and ride xc/trails on local bridleways (busbridge woods/holloways heath/hydonsball), Swinley and Holmbury/Pitch hill. I also do a bit of dirt jumping, at Rodborough common, and the gulley at swinley.
The only things i have changed are the pedals, but i have a shorter stem and wider bars on order.

Haven't ridden since I was a kid and have just ordered a 2010 Trek 6300 to enjoy in the local hills (and further, I hope!) Can't wait to get out there and pick your brains on this forum for info and tips.

  • Hello!

I'm Rodders! Just getting back into riding, not ridden for about 7years when I used to ride a carrera something or other, wasn't to into remembering what they were back then, just interested in hammering it.

Just bought a 2nd hand barracuda showdown, trying to find out if that was a good move or not. Soon be buying brand new, just want to see if I've still got the love for it or not first as they're pretty expensive things to buy and not use! lol

    Anyway, see you round guys
