Police were on the scene, but ambulance was long since gone. Anyone know what happened?
When I went past there both ambulances were stil there. Not sure what happened but there was a bike against the railings and a cyclist talking to the BiB. Probably just a witness. Not nice anyway.
Edit to add - when I went through at 8am or so the Embankment was still open, just long queue. If it was closed later that might mean that things took a turn for the worse. Fingers crossed I'm wrong though.0 -
Cheers, W1. Couldn't find anything on BBC.
To the rapid SSer on a Surly who took a tow off me into the wind up Queen's Ride and then briefly along Upper Richmond Road (before jumping the red onto Priory Lane): it's good form to say "thanks". And I was relieved that you didn't go into the back of me when I stopped for the ped at the ped crossing on Ashburnham Road (you went round me and went through the crossing). In your defence, you might not have seen the ped because you were too close to me.FCN 2-4.

Somehow the cold wind of the last few mornings feels colder than the other week when it was PROPER cold. The afternoons are gorgeous though - I'd go so far as to say warm! Overshoes off, breeze blowing up the loosened cuffs of my jacket, skullcap rolled up off my ears.
Summer is on the way 8)0 -
Dum dee dum. Still in work - I'll be racing my shadow as usual tonight.
It was a good feeling catching up with a roady on Sunday on my way out to Llantrissant - I think he was a bit gutted when he saw some fat tub of lard on his tail and closing in - he did a great snotty from both barrels but that didn't put me off, as I drew level he quickly mentioned it was he first outing for a month.
Taking pity, I kept level with him and we passed the time of day until we went our seperate ways, both maintaining our scalps._________________________________________________

I don't think this is the same incident, but a cyclist was apparently killed in London this morning, according to one London-based Web site.

some damned fine speed on the way home, seemed to be a lot of SS'er and fixed riders out there mainly for me to drop.... I get on the A21 and a roadie does me and damned he's quick I stay with him for pretty much 10 miles when I turned off. He was quicker on the flats but I had him on the hills. While we were waiting at lights a fixed guy flys through the lights, we give chase, I take the lead up Bromley hill and we cruise past him at 18mph or so. It's a pretty big hill but just invites you to mtfuPurveyor of sonic doom

 I actually join The Drag Strip at the same point, opposite the Waitrose :-) He'll have to check his footage for anyone passing him on black bike with a backpack :-D
Besides I at least managed to stay upright during my "moment", think I either need to tighten up the tension on my SPD's again or replace the cleats as I haven't had an un-expecting un-clip for a while although at the time my right came free I was trying to pedal single legged in a 85" gear as I missed clipping in with the left........
Still no action to speak off, did pass someone on drop bars on the way home last night but they where clearly not playing or interested in racing0 -
Had a rather whizzing ride home last night. Nice tall american guy on a fixed pearson must have spun like a behatch to catch back up but I took 4 people as a car to win his scalp back after he filtered ahead of me.

Saw the chap with monster legs and shoulders (i.e. a rower) on the LeMond this morning. He's all about SCR. And RLJing too. He no longer pulls away from me now .
He couldn't help himself when a chap in a white Australian National Champ top went through the lights at Horseguards - he was off through the red after him .
Caught up with, and passed, the chappy in the Aussie top in the tunnel. He then RLJed the lights at Southwark Bridge. I then catch him up at the lights at Minories. He jumps those, too. Dear, Lord.
This should go in the "Rant" thread really.FCN 2-4.

I was a right old state this morning - could not get out of bed, forgot towel and keys. Freezing ride in with snow in face.
I saw one absolutly lovely fixed gear - it was metallic green steel with a small name written on the top tube - something like 'A. S Gillotti' in copper script. I appreciated it all the way down Kennington rode. It had natural leather bar tape and one of those english saddles.

@ MM, Did I see you this morning on NKR just before 7.30? I came up behind a guy on a yellow/green cannondale wearing a red face mask. He carried on up NKR when I turned off for Embankment [like a real man].0

Perhaps they should fit those pop-up 'stinger' strips to traffic lights. The threat of shredded tyres would put a stop to the RLJing scumags prety sharpish . Or maybe some kind of arrest system like they have on aircraft carriers to stop planes overshooting .
On my PT day today, but extra fast last night due to the tail wind, and I think I was pushing the high 20s dropping down from Clapham Common into Balham , which made up for the horrendous inward leg. Repeatedly scalped a nippyish RLJer through Balham into Tooting, but nobody really racing otherwise.
I didn't feel it straight away, but I must have been pushing fairly hard on top of the tail wind. When I pried myself off the sofa to go to bed my legs had really stiffened up and I could barely get up the stairs (will I ever learn to stretch out?).1985 Mercian King of Mercia - work in progress (Hah! also can you remind her that it's only meant to snow for about 5 minutes every winter.

Left work at 10 ish last night and felt like going for it and that I did or so I thought.
I felt pretty good and got my breathing going well although I did get a stitch twice along the way, kept my cadence slightly higher than usual.
Was out of the saddle towards the end up the short but sharp Llandough Hill and was expecting a good time. But it wasn't that good - 16.25 miles in 56mins (actual time door to door) - it felt so much better than that but I reckon the traffic light commander conspired against me and must have robbed me of 5 minutes.
Cycle in today was uneventful as usual, except for the to$$er who pulled out from a parked position on Wellfield Road, then took umbridge when I overtook him doing 25mph._________________________________________________

Forgot that as I was coming in a little earlier than usual there was a chance the guy at work who does Ironman's would be on the road. Forgot right up to the point when he passed me. I hadn't exactly been pushing it. A quick sprint to grab his wheel then hang in there for this final kilometer. I'd doen this before then jumped on the little incline and beaten him. Not this morning though, he kept the power on and I had nothing left in the last 100 meters.
It didn't half wake me up though. I'd been pottling along and all of a sudden I'm in the Amstel Gold dying for air. I love it, so much better than driving in.0 -

You assume we descend more slowly on fixed than we would on a SS or geared bike... Do not make the mistake of judging others by your own feeble standards.... :-)
Old? Perhaps. Scared? Hah!

I got to 37.4mph fixed last night... the speed really carries on the flat for some way
I reckon I can go faster, there was a van looking to turn across me so I held back a little.. we'll see tonight
if he had I'd still be pedaling with my face 1/2 way through the van

Bloomin' cold again this morning and the snow was hammering down lunchtime but has now disappeared.
Going to be a chilly one tonight methinks, so I'll probably see as many people on the way home as I did on the way in : NONE
Getting the front mech on the Litespeed replaced tomorrow under warranty (clamping bolt sheared off last Friday) so SWMBO will bring it into work in the back of the car.
That means I will be forced to ride in on my new baby.

Left-hooked.... by a police car. Oh the irony.
Approaching the bus stop layby near home and a car comes past rather rapidly but braking, and swerves into the layby and stops. What's going on here? Then as I'm almost halfway past the layby a police car with blue lights going follows suit and swerves into the closing gap between me and the first car.
As I pass the police car's driver's window (wound down) I pass a comment about considerate driving and continue on my way.... :roll:0 -
