I reckon I can go faster, there was a van looking to turn across me so I held back a little.. we'll see tonight

if he had I'd still be pedaling with my face 1/2 way through the van

    48X16 btw

You'll have to try harder than that mate. 38mph and 48x19 here, for 185rpm is my personal max so far. What's more my effort is fairly feeble by real men fixed wheel standards. Quite a few people can do over 200rpm.

Jeepers! I'd be on 52x11 at that speed. I think my legs would have cone off at the hip at that cadence

    LOL, nice comeback! :D

Fixed upright of course, just an older '06 langster. Fixed recumbents are used, but almost exclusively on track. The speed differential is perhaps too great for road use.

Fair play, that's going like the clappers. Chapeau!

hill induced I reckon I might be able to get 40.. will some clever/someone @rsed enough work out the cadence on that?

I was quite comfortable in terms of legs and my body wasn't flapping all over the place which was nice

Do I take it that 37.4mph was on the flat

Caught a bus this morning as in caught and passed at 30.1+mph :D Held the diesel behometh off and he didn't claim his scalp back  though he may have pulled into a bus stop :( Further on was pootling past the Genny Hospital to Bemmy Bridge and caught some flashing out of the corner of my eye and thought that street lights aren't that white and don't flash then a guarded up roadie made a vain attempt at a pass but I stuck with him and with hit the roundabout together, safety in numbers etc.
Coming home in the centre I was swamped by 4 other SCR'ers, though they might not have been playing, lost a bit of ground to a MTB'er but soon gained the lead and left them behind.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • When I get paid and get my stiff track drops I will have a crack at the 40mph mark, I can get to 33mph on the flat (still waiting on my clips to arrive) I am on a 48x13 fixed. easily get upto 25/30 range within a few seconds, but havent found a nice enough straight road to really pump it up

Going for track drops so I no longer have to worry about my risers flexing and the huge wind resistance I get riding nigh on upright

Currently thinking I may save for either a fully custom fixed gear (alu frame, carbon forks, etc) or go for a full on road bike.

I need some scalps, taken a moped on the roads near kingston but by the time I was coming home I could barely move on the flats due to the hills......

  • wasnt even a commute :P

I was bored last week so went on a little excursion where I ended up getting lost  did a 22mile route (was meant to be 20miles) which took me through the centre of kingston and up past the Uni towards barns pond and across hammersmith bridge. May do it again this weekend as I cant do the weekdays as I am in croydon doing training at the moment (6 weeks of no commuting).

Just changed jobs so no longer got a decent commute....

This may have been asked before; Is the scoring reversed for riding on snow/ice?
  • @Skippy2309 - That's fairly impressive gearing! I do believe that beats the gearing on LiT's late Gollum bike!
All I can say tho is I'm glad your not on the bike whilst on training as I might have to ride myself ragged to try and keep up as I'm working in Croydon at the moment!

It is becoming slightly better as they have FINALLY started filling in some of the craters from the recent cold snap :-) Wonder how many hours it'll last tho

  • year the gearing is a pig, but I love it :D the flats are not a problem just the hills are a bit of work but thats not a that big a problem. I am actually hopeing to up the front ring to a 50/52 in the summer and increase the rear to maybe a 14/15 so its not such a huge increase in gearing....

Croydons a bit far for me to commute to, the centres south of croydon and the days already long enough takes an hour and half by public transport on a good day.... 8:30am start and a 5:30 finish each day, so I am wrecked by the time i get some so riding would outright kill me. doing 20odd miles saturday morning tho. May head down though kensington up to the city and then circle back round see just how fast I can get on a decent flat section.

Very strange. I seem not to be able to get down on the hoods on the commute; I'm sat nearly upright. Get to Queen's Ride, and it's head down, tongue out.

I was king pootler this morning. Nothing - I mean nothing - in the legs. I wonder if I'm overdoing it, I've only had one working day off the bike so far this year (aiming for my 3,500 total for 2010!) but am just knackered this morning. Humph. Luckily (and strangely) very little traffic this morning, and very few bikes. Kept a couple of roadies and SSers in check, but not sure they were really trying either.

    you get today's MTFU award...

today I was a disgrace, no one passed but the speeds I was doing (and I use the term speed loosely) would have invited pashleys to pass  ... I was almost glad ITB's fairy visited me to give me a rest, been thinking about new tyres for a while

More worrying was the spacer? between the spocket and the drop outs seems to be in real trouble as it's rusted to buggery and a 3rd has fallen off it

155 isn't bad, but quite a few fixed wheel riders will have maxed out at 200+. I've only managed 185 myself, although I did enjoy the jaw-dropped expression of the club cyclist coming up Leaves Green hill towards me, LOL!

You're not kidding on the maintenance, my geared bike is taking up so much of my time at the moment.

    V. true! It defo counts for something, but I'm sure on the road is harder, plus can be more scary!
