Chapeau to the guy on the white fixie who was ahead of me on the Old Canal path - I was hauling you in but needed another 100m before the lights - next time :)

Sorry to hear that BQ. Glad you and bike were unharmed and able to carry on the commute. You not taking in RP any more then?

Thanks - I was fine and the bike was too I think. (Fingers crossed no hidden damage)

Unfortunately no more RP in the mornings - I've moved up closer to town which is a massive help if I fancy a few drinks but has somewhat ruined my commute. I do miss the journey down through the park - that route also offered alot a quick guys to push yourself against.

  • A few seconds after turning on to Otley Road in Harrogate this morning, I was overtaken at speed by someone on a flat bar town bike - looked like a chap in his late fifties, full skintight gear. I pelted after him and caught up on my SS, but along the Stray he started weaving insanely through traffic and left me behind. I'm not that crazy!

    Chapeau, sir.

I think I discovered another unwritten rule today. See a chap on the same steed as you and it's hammer time. Bye bye.

God it feels good to be commuting again.

Yuk, but good. First day back on the commute in over two weeks. Just about kept my scalp. Just.

Was very cautious due to the damp roads and need to get the feel of it back. Had some tool of a mtber drafting me after I'd twice overtaken him. RLJer and x-crossing hopper, too. Tool.

  • What is going with the weather???

Felt a bit warmer this morning so put the shorts on, and dropped a couple of layers of thermals. It was a bit wet and windy, and a bit cloudy but a cracking ride in especially through Lacock.

Hardly saw a soul all the way and even the traffic was pretty light. BUT I just got out of Box and it starting bl**dy snowing again. Spent the last 4 or 5 miles spitting out snow and sleet again.

I'm going to write to my MP. I'll demand a refund (on what I'm not quite sure but I'll think of something)

had a nice ride in today on the pista.. saw an older looking guy in 3/4s on a ribble... I sat behind him at the lights and noticed he shaves... oh potential scalpage. we set off from the lights and I make my move as I pass I see it's only bloody ironman from last year WOO... I get in front and an upstart roadie on a boardman whizzes past with ironman attached to his wheel...game on.

As we make our way from deptford we jostle for postion no one really making any headway, we get to some lights and boardman goes through on red... I say to ironman.."Shame that was getting interesting" I kick off fast and we hunt him down succesfully I go past him and keep the lead until we hit traffic and then we're all set up for the jamaica road sprints.. Boardman has creeped about 5 metres up to the jct and we're off I give it spins catch boardman and drop him good.. I've no idea where ironman is at this point but he's nowhere to be seen. I turn up tower bridge feeling I've held my own and scalped boardman... not too sure about ironman but I certainly dropped him in the end

Dont know what went wrong with the legs last night, but just couldn't get any power out of them. Real lead legs, but I hadn't even pushed that hard in the morning, so had to settle for plodding home. Very strange. PT'd it in today, and my legs were still sore; maybe a day off will sort things out.

Yep - spot on and probably because we're not manufacturing our own any more and we're getting cheap imported stuff from Eastern Europe ....

Had issues with WVM who had identitiy issues. Overtook me closely then pulled into the bus/cycle lane using the telepathic signalling method with no indicators, not that they were working as I passed him earlier in the ride when his hazards were on and one side was flashing quicker than the other. Managed to capture his driving on camera before I pulled in front at the lights and sat in the ASL for a little longer than normal.

I'm still struggling for fitness this year and had that heavy leg syndrome this evening so was just pootling along minding my owns when some bloke comes past me just before Stockwell and looks over sneering for some unknown reason.

Right that's it, the adrenaline kicks in and suddenly I'm up for it, let him pull away from lights at Stockwell ahead of me to see what he's got and he tops out at about 16 mph, I mean really! Whack it down to a big gear and cruise past him whilst giving an ultra-long look at him and his bike.

Didn't see him again and that feelgood factor kept me going all the way up the long climb from Stockwell to the Clapham and Tooting alps duelling with other riders all the way.

Held my own with them but was still sadly amused over how good I felt passing this one bloke...

After meeting three roadies on Thames St, it looked like things might be full on early on. Not so. Their RLJing and a subsequent bad run on the lights for me put them out of sight. Quite quiet all the way home, and this was at 6.30.

WTF was up with the traffic in Bristol city centre tonight? Tin boxes of various size and shapes nose to tail on the roads into and through the centre with enough gap between them for filtering. Whilst I was sat at home on the PC they were still trying to get home

  • Last night on my grind home, I had the unfortunate and unhappy experience of ‘getting scalped’ by a lunatic on an electric bike. ……. the shame :(
  • Lovely ride home last night. Did the slightly longer 26+ mile route again. It was wet and windy again but really nice to be able to feel confident about the road underneath me!!

No frost or ice so when traffic allowed I opened up and gave it some especially on the flat stretches from Attwood through to Sells Green.

Not a scalp in sight though. The flurry of early week activity has disappeared. May try the route back over Bannerdown and into Castle Combe tonight for a change to see if I can hunt down some wheels .....

That was a bit quicker than the legs needed this morning.

Did a turbo session last night and legs felt fairly heavy, so decided to "spin" into work. That plan went out the window when I came across two nippy roadies: one on a black Spesh (Roubaix, I think), and a blue Dolan SS. All the way along Embankment. I'm rather thankful that it was wet, otherwise they would probably have been going faster and I would have been scalped all over the shop. I want to go to sleep now.

Ooo, about 8.30am getting on to Embankment. The Dolan SSer was wearing black shorts, I think. Rode all the way along Thames St. That you? :)

Yeah, sounds like me, orange cover on the backpack too. You went past me at Roehampton lights and had me skinned by Chelsea but for some favorable red lights along Grosvenor Rd.
