We're not talking Ribena coloured here, just a bit dead looking; haven't dropped off yet though. BTW as the son of a man who has spent a large part of his working life in abattoirs, I can assure you that no quorn has ever been anywhere near me.

Its a rest day for me tomorrow as my right vastus medialis (looked that up today I did) is playing up a bit. I think I may have relearned some bad habits over the Christmas break. Uneventful power-pootle (not pootling, but not really pushing either) this evening even with that wind behind me.

It seems this leaving a bit earlier malarky is throwing me onto the Drag Strip along with a bunch of other rather quick riders!
Last nights was a man mountain on a single speed and a chap on a Bianchi. It was SS guy that had me first, I managed to hold my own at the first few sets of lights away from Stockwell tube but by the time we got to Clapham Common his slight lead meant he got pulled out a longer lead due to some very nice filtering at one point. I tried to re-catch him but could only manage to keep the gap roughly equal past Clapham Common despite nudging mid-20's

At the set of lights on the other side I realized the guy had huge and rather strong looking legs, which might have explained his rapid acceleration.......

Even more annoying tho was that once I'd turned off at Waitrose and started heading towards Streatham expecting a bit of a breather the chap on the white Bianchi (a rarity!) that I'd seen at a previous set of lights came round me! Again a lead was pulled out and I did my best to stop him running away with it but again needed a set of lights to close down the then 5m gap :-(

All in another great ride! Left knee was giving me a bit of pain last night so I think I might have given it a bit to much effort mashing away from the lights to try and stick with SS guy......

  • @ LIT - using 2 pairs of socks, then Tarmac Pros with Enduras over them as well.

I suffer from cold feet and fingers too and so for my hands I've also got 2 pairs of thermal inners on plus an oversized pair of heavyweight thermal gloves. My feet & fingers are like toast even in this weather.

It does make changing gear interesting though ..... had to do it with my thumbs a couple of times this morning :)

Lovely ride in again this morning. The odd spot of ice coming down Bowden Hill and through the lanes to Corsham but otherwise fine and relatively light traffic too which was a pleasant change.

Cracking ride in again - even into the headwind :D:D:D

I managed to find a roadie practically as I left the house this morning. Older gent on a equally old bike! Damn ejit then proceeded to RLJ through the next 2 sets and even had to use the pavement at one point as he rode straight through temp lights towards a bus!!

Spotted a few fast roadies and SS types as I waited to join the Drag Strip and managed to catch up with them at the lights at the south side of Clapham Common. Traffic was being rather nice (or should I say we where hogging the inside lane!) but it did mean SCR was temporarily on hold as I waited for a safe gap to jump. Once one appeared I put the hammer down and moved on up the pack and we slowly sorted out the RLJers from the honest riders. Carried on pretty much like that until Stockwell as the group expanded and contracted with the lights.

Once over VB the traffic on approach the Parly Square and up Whitehall was dire! Backed up much worse then earlier in the week but it gave me a good chance to practice the filtering, thank god I'm rather compact :-)

I've taken up running at lunch time to try to keep in shape - and ran a 5 mile race yesterday which hurt like hell - so this morning was always going to be sore.

Fortunately no fast roadies out there, but I did encounter a few quick hybrid riders looking for some action over London Bridge . Funnily enough the stiffness disappeared as soon as I was warmed up, but has now returned with a vengance. :(

Tight for time this morning so I had to put the hammer down from the start which hurt a little however there's def more power in my legs after a couple of days rest, zero SCR action as normal but very pleased with scalping myself to the halfway mark 10 in 30 it was at that point when I eased off I noticed how deeply I need to breath to get any air in, looks like it's off to the docs for me :(

also a well lubes chain not only runs quieter but also feels easier

I'm dreading the ride home. I am so sore and worn out from running I think I'm going to get totally pasted. Have mercy.

Aw damn, seems there was a 25mph tailwind this morning, no wonder it was effortless ride in, I seriously doubt the wind is going to change before home time.

Finding a headwind as you round a corner isn't fun, particularly when the wind is artic icy cold. Two stretches of it in close succession but soon powered through them.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Was supposed to be a gentle pootle home this evening and all was going well up until some utter numpty attempted one of the most idiotic overtaking maneuvers on Wandsworth Bridge roundabout. This was enough to invoke SCR rage (level 5) which resulted in said numpty getting absolutely schooled on the small slope up to trinity road.

Now my legs ache again :?

Insane. Battled what felt like a gale on the way to the station in Essex, and emerging from Fenchurch it felt like it was going to be a mega slog home.

But as soon as I warmed up, the ache in my legs from running all but disappeared and I felt stronger than I have in a long time. Headwind? What headwind.

Pootled to Waterloo followed a lovely pert bottom up the station ramp, completely see through trousers barely hidding tiny panties and a small tattoo on the right cheek

Okay odd country commute home, went to fit the P7 to my bars and the mount snap, FFS this cheap light is turning out to be more expensive than a genuine EU model, grrrr

Anyway I didn't need lights on the way home, the moon completely lit my entire journey home, ace! even the foggy patches were moonlit  spent a lot of time shoulder checking for non existent cars and get this the temp was 6c  er it hasn't been that warm in the day time for weeks.

Clock 662 miles to be welcomed home by the PF for the last 2, couldn't be arsed to change the tube for such a short distance, just pumped up the tyre and carefully rolled home, isn't it hard to steer and turn when you have almost no air up front.

I also totally didn't notice the headwind and there was most def one when I stopped to pump up the jam, pump it up!

Rubbish ride home this evening, was raining when I left so I carefully navigated around Traf Sq. and down Whitehall. Really not in the mood for SCR as the brakes felt useless and I couldn't see an effing thing thanks to my wet glasses (curse my broken eyes!)

Chap on a specialized roadie pulls up next to me at the lights by Parly Sq. to head straight over to I have no choice really......once the road clears past LBR and we're on Millbank I pull out and round.

Pretty quiet along Stockwell - Balham and just 2 a$$hat drivers this evening trying to run me over, first came past rather quickly as we approached a parked car. I swerve to avoid being clipped then have to grab handfuls of brake as I'm now on course to meet the parked car :-( Second was some stupid bint in a Vauxhall who seemed a little annoyed after being delayed at some temp lights - she overtook me whilst we're still in the coned area not leaving much room before speeding off down the road. Didn't do her much good tho as I caught up with her at the lights before the high street and didn't see the car again thanks to the traffic :-)

There doesn't seem to be much "sport" out there in Stafford at the moment. :(

Went down to the town this morning to get some cat food so thought I would see what was about (okay, it was 7am so not rush hour really). What did I find??? One moron on an MTB with no lights hopping on and off the road/pavement. He proved to be no sport at all but was dispatched three times when he went on the pavement to avoid a couple of red lights.

Also out was a postman. Felt a bit sorry for him as his bike looked heavy and a women on a MTB without lights again! I don't understand why people haven't got lights: mine cost £15 a set and give out sufficient light to be seen 200 yards away (I have tested them!).

So, if you want sport, don't bother with Stafford.

Muchos fun out there today - forgot the earlier crowd usually rlj more than the later ,but more roadies to scare. For some reason its mini drivers being stupid behind the wheel today - 3 separate winkers. Watch out chaps and chapesses.

Oh and rock hard rear tyres do make for a lovely ride - no that's not a filthy euphemism...

it's been fairly bereft of competition for me lately so I resorted to filth tactics and rode the brompton in... damn it's hard work but nailed 12 scalps to the wall including a tourer... no fixie/ss or road bikes though just didn't see any

I'm supposed to be doing the dun run on that thing  might need to spend some time in the saddle to see if I can put proper miles in on it

Great ride in this am, nailed 2 roadie scalps and:

    Auto-stop on or off darling?

I had a SS have the temerity to go past me on Old Kent this morning (in traffic), but I noticed he was spinning out badly when he did at about 25mph, I just clicked up a couple of gears and got away from him at about 27 on the fast bit up to Bricklayers Arms.

Love it: make a move, can't make it stick.

I'm pretty sure you went past me this morning (focus? red cap? red jersey?) at the end of millbank, i was all ready to wind it up for some SCR action but then you turned off up Lambeth bridge. Maybe next time
