Actually, that's how I started - Mrs G wasn't keen on me swearing in front of the kids so I stuck to anatomically correct language (screaming anus, tepid phallus etc) just to wind her up. Now they're 16 & 18 and their language is f*cking awful, to be frank, it's sort of stuck and no become a competition to come up with the most vile combination just to set her off

As I pulled off Clapham High St to Clapham Park Rd last night I heard someone's disappointment at not getting to challenge me to SCR. "Aww I was looking forward to that" he shouted. Masochist?
  • hmmm... yes to chopperdom but not that bad, this morning I kept managing to drop the pack so stayed out of sight of most of the carnage I guess.

Did the chopper across the bonnet of the Range Rover hang about?
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.

Yeah - rain tends to make it wetter.

It's cold you want, to make it chillier. Also, sun makes it brighter, fog makes it murkier, and nighttime makes it darker.

yes definitely noted its chopperdom this week, its annoying because they are unpredictable, but will also head for the pavement at the first sign of having to stop, I was overtaking them, but then getting caught at traffic lights, theyd shoot past on the pavement, traffic lights would go green, Id catch them up again and sail past, repeated that 3x times on the ride in this morning

Back at last. 3months of not commuting by bike left me huffing and puffing yesterday. I just need a wicker basket to match my speed now.

Had a guy in full Rapha do that weird thing of very closely examining my bike for some time whilst waiting next to me at the Blackfriars lights on CS3. Yes, it's a weird amalgamation of mismatched parts on a gas-pipe frame, what of it? I don't think I'd overtaken him up to that point (which if I had, might have accounted for his apparent mystification) but I made damn sure I did afterwards.

You've misunderstood; what you're supposed to do is look back and admire his spotless Pinarello, Zipp wheels, 13-speed groupset etc, and nod knowingly in appreciation of his his meticulously curated* wardrobe.

It's like "sourced" in place of "went to the shops for".

Ah, I'll know the drill next time then! Perhaps as I'm nodding appreciatively I could also make the 'OK' sign and mouth the word 'niiiice' if I catch his eye...

It's possible I misjudged his intent, after all the Pompino has (or had) something of a cult following so he could have simply been casting an appreciative eye over her noble lines.

And for the purposes of full disclosure, he didn't seem to be trying along the embankment so I can't really claim that my passing him counted for very much in SCR terms.
  • I was very disappointed that up Priory Lane last night the E-bike I came across didn't pass the two Rapha Douchebags in front so I could make a chippy comment while sat in the e-bikes draft.

Were they riding badly or do you just judge people by what they wear?

I thought that sounded like nonsense when I read it, and it is - latest reports (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... ondon.html ) are that he failed to counter-claim and hence has been ordered to pay damages.

This all points to why it is a good reason to pay the annual British Cycling membership, just so you get a solicitor on the case that actually has a clue what they are doing.

A couple of strange encounters on the commute home today.
First I turned into a road around surbiton behind a girl/woman who was cycling wearing knee, hip, elbow and shoulder pads and a full length back protector. Seemed a bit excessive for a reasonably sedate road ride.
Then as I puffed my way up the last hill before home, a white van pulled alongside me for a chat about how I was doing and how he thinks my seat post is slightly too high.

Been in BC for a few years now, well worth it when I got doored a few years back. Still paying for family membership but will have to go all individual when the girl turns 18 this year. Even though the Mrs only really rides to the station and back I’m happy to pay it.
