Silly commuting racing

Signs are still there but realistically they're very small and if I remember right green background. Not exactly what a driver would be looking for on entry to the park so I sympathise with those that may have been routed through by satnav.
I've seen police pulling them over on numerous occasions but not enough. Also, when they pull them over at peak times it just creates worse traffic.
The authorised vehicles appear to often be instructed to go through with their hazard lights on.0 -
Great... May want to rethink that ride home in the rain tonight - https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/ ... 65441.html0

The irony of that in what has been the wettest few days for years is beautiful

Basically a cyclist stops a car that is cutting a corner/on the wrong side of the road and traffic island and a long discussion ensues.
The icing on the cake is the fat cabbie blaming the bloke on the bike.Ben

From his POV, the cyclist is holding a car that would have been well past the junction had the driver not been told off for "creative rule breaking". After all, how bad could it be to ride a few hundred yards in the wrong lane....0 -
Little bit of SCR through the park yesterday with Andy Walles, who I believe is of this parish. I had the lead over him until he pulled ahead at the slope at the start of Priory Lane, with him keeping up the pace, and pulling away further on Broomfield (my Yasso 800 lunchtime interval session meant that my legs were toast). We were both riding fixed gear, so I couldn't use that excuse either. Shameful.
Still, I pushed on through Broomfield recovery, and finally caught and overtook him again at the top of Dark Hill. He then put in another effort, and just pipped me to the post at Kingston Gate. All jolly good fun, despite my loss.1938 Hobbs Tandem

I dare say that from his POV, it wouldn't really matter who was at fault...Ben

3 days of soggy shoes and counting
Cheery chap through Bermondsey/Canada Water heading to Blackheath last night, I think I've chatted to him a couple of times now, goes back to watching the weather radar....Thresholds, 60-80%, HRM's...I'll just go for a ride0 -
Bit of to and fro this morning with a skinny guy on a trek to keep the blood moving. Good fun. Traffic a bit shyte though, which limited opportunities to safely get the hammer down.0

Glasses, white Trek, stem at a jaunty angle? If so, it may have been my competition from the other morning whose riding skill and road sense will leave him under a bus some time soon.If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.0 -
Mattsaw wrote:I remember there was some debate a few years ago when a cyclist did get stopped and fined that it may be a grey area, and it may be possible to challenge the fine in court.
I remember this too - I think the argument was that they changed the wording slightly when renewing the byelaws which would then rule out cyclists again. IIRC the cycling silk offered to pro bono anyone getting a fine as a test case.
In two minds about that, as on the one hand it would be good to highlight what motorists do every day in terms of loop holes and / or clarify once and for all what the position is. On the other, you can bet that unlike for motorists there'd be some serious political motivation to do something about it asap which would make it worse for everyone.
Figured if it ever happneed to me I'd put it to a poll on twitter
Anyway, in other news I had a glorious week off in sunny majorca - apaprently skipping the worst week of the year for weather. I did take my mudguards off before leaving so sorry about that - obviously a weather gods loophole.0 -

Yeah, could be him - was definitely a white trek and he had glasses on. Looked to be about 10 stone wet through. He was certainly more "agressive" in his filtering than me. Whenever the road opened up, he was easy enough to pass, but every time I sat up if I wasn't happy with the traffic or whatever, he'd be buzzing around again.0 -

Defo him, Rapha pinks socks the other day hence my Strava title. If left on his own he had little pace but would take offense if you just cruised on past. Hopefully he'll be a regular as quite fun to antagonise. If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.0 -
Tailwindy I think, pedalling seemed easy for a Friday. Seemed to be very few cyclists about. Maybe they all dissolved earlier in the week.0

Horrid ride home last evening, forgot to eat at 4pm and spent the whole ride fantasizing about food, semi-bonked. CJ rolled up to chat, I couldn't really keep up, later Adam Wells the same through Kingston.Dolan Titanium ADX 2016

Did some park laps with a friends first thing, Heading through Putney wasn't the traffic filled end of days as described on here, just as normal, too many knobs in cars.

That was classic. I even went up Broomfield, thinking you'd go that way and catch up.
Nope.
I contemplated going back to Kingston Gate with a food parcel for you.FCN 2-4.

I'll start then... lovely ride in, sun, tailwind, good legs, loads of green lights.. almost like it's not a Monday

So nice today, I've done the commute twice. Had to pop back home at lunchtime. Hot out there, I tells you, it's hot.
Bit of a headwind on the way back to KT. 29 mins southbound, 25 mins northbound.0 -
Bored of headwinds.
On my way home this eve I thought back to June last year, which was ridiculously nice and a bazillion times better than the crappy weather we’re having to put up with now. When will the calm, hot days start?0 -

My FD cable snapped this morning, after only 950 miles ... I replaced the previous snapped one only in April. I'm going to have to look closely at the shifter to see what's going on there...
My ride in this morning didn't appear to suffer, I was still reasonably competitive in spite of grossly cross-chaining. Apart from Broomfield descent, on the run-out from which I could only re-engage drive at 127 rpm.Dolan Titanium ADX 2016

Lewisham Cyclists were running a free breakfast for cyclists in Crofton Park this morning, I popped down and it was all very pleasant.0

You certainly came past me around PS at a rate of knots which is fairly embarrassing given the mechanical. My excuse is too many holiday burgers and milkshakes!0
