I deny these wild accusations. I thought I was pretty reserved and restrained given my level of alcohol comsuption on Friday night.

DJ EZ was the king of the garage scene. His mixes were so sweetly aggressive. They were perfect, new songs in their own right. This one time he touched me (on the shoulder in Club Vision - Croydon) and the next day I made a 90min mix tape (I had turntables and a mixer - DJ - in those days along with my Guitar for rock music...). The tape is called The tape of EZ or something to that affect... I still have it despite no having a tape deck to play it in.

And now he does Friday night at Vita Sudbury with my mate Rob, and I've stood idly watching him at the Hippo in Colchester... How the mighty have fallen!

Oh and I see that B-Live fellow is still about...

Are we talking about the same DJ EZ? Garage and House Music, has his own intro's, nominated for a MOBO (Music of Black origin award) and mixes the Pure Garage compelation CD's?

    Well what a day.

Left for work at 7am, It was SNOWING, NONE of the road for the first 5 miles has been gritted, so took it MENTALLY slow, Then for the last 2 miles there was LOADS of grit, Arrived it work SOAKING and FILTHY.

Then on the way home tonight (Minus 3) I got a puncture, In the BACK wheel ARGHHHH, Swapped tubes and was back on my way in 10 mins.

THen when home, repaired the puncture, however when I put it back into my wheel I must have pinched it and BOOOOOM, It exploded and ripped a huge hole in the tube.

So now the bike is back together and ready for morning, the forcast ? MORE SNOW !

Funny that there wasnt a scalp to be seen, Maybe thats because I didnt see one other cyclest all day.

    Stay safe tomorrow folks.

Well, LIT zipped past me again tonight, so I though I'd catch up and say hello, however, in my scrubby attempt at overtaking I nearly forced her into the back of a queue of cars (sorry ! )

Someone tried to SCR* me today. I DEFEATED them roundly due to speed, and fiddling with my vent zips at the same time.

    *or scalp?
  • Saw four cyclists today, two of which had no lights. One of the invisible ninjas was going in the same direction on a hardtail, but on the pavement. Naturally he was dropped, but was it a scalp? Methinks not.

Pulled up at some lights tonight and a chap pulled up next to me on what I thought was a Specialized road bike, we both eyed a tarty fakenger go past in th opposite direction (RLJing I think) Spesh guy turned to me and said "there's so many fixies about these days", it was about this time I realised he was on a Langster.
We chatted and rode on for a couple of miles, he told me how he's had the bike for about a year and it'd done about 10000 miles (he worded it this carefully, so there might have been an element of bluff and bluster here) but crikey the bike did sound like it'd done that sort of distance without any maintenance. He still had a good turn of speed on it though.

    Chapeau

gb155 you're obviously a pro mechanic - I managed to rip the a*rse out of **2** tubes  last night doing the same, but by the side of the road with a constant stream of cycling flotsam shambling by gloating - and its was kin freezing as well.

    SCALP!

    Well, nearly.....

I rode out of my road and started on up the hill (very gentle one). Saw a road bike....with a man on it, spinning madly. I took my chance, and sailed past him.

    Left him for dead

Until the lights. Both of us filtered right onto the Common, whereupon I was drafted for around 300m (the cheek!)

I thought of all you SCR's with your delicate egos, and I let him by......

No cycling for me tonight, had to bring the worlds largest laptop home of the wife to use so I had to survive the Infectious Tube. That means I've got to brave it again tomorrow before HarryPerry brings me home.

Speaking of Harry, I've now given him some new brakes and levers (thanks ITB for the recommendation, the Cane Creek's are great) and he's paying me back in spades. He's reduced my normal commute time by 2 mins! Game on

I was out on the bike this evening and drafted a box van for a mile or so.

First time Ive done this, it was great, I had to slow down at one point as I was gaining on him too quickly.

Got up to about 27 mph before the road ramped up and I was left behind.

Blew off a sit up and beg road bike of some sort as well but no competition, I flew passed him so fast I made him look like he was stationary. Dont count this as a scalp as the guy wasnt really trying. There seemed to be a lot of people pushing their bikes on the paths tonight.

Also must report on a new pair of gloves.

I recently bought a pair of Spec Sub Zero winter gloves. FAB.

These are the biz, kept my hands reall nice and warm over the last 2 days, better than any other pair I own, and Ive got a few. They have an inner liner and separate outer glove. I must admit they are a bit thick and take a bit of getting used too but do the job when its sub zero. :)

  • I fell off on my way home tonight. I'm thinking MTBs until spring now, unless it is really warm. But I properly scalped a pickup so I think I have regained some of my honour.

On a separate note, does anyone have a video that oppitomises (sp) SCR, I have a fun idea in the works, and need some video footage...

+1. And he drafted you too! If he didn't go home and sit down in a dark room and think very hard about that, he has no shame and the scalp is all the more satisfying.

Yep, had it once with a chap on a Trek from Westminster to the turn off for Richmond Park (about 10-11 miles). We started chatting about those poxy scooters that sit in the box at traffic lights. Our conversations became a little more breathless at whichever set of lights we were stopped at further down the road because, between the lights, we were both determined (without trying, of course  - er, yeah, right!) not to be dropped by the other. Even parted with a "cheers, mate". Quite like those occasions.

To all those who keep ripping holes in their inner tubes, try using a Crank Brothers Speedlever. The speedlever uses a similar technique to the machine used for putting car tyres on. I reckon it makes putting the tyre back on much easier.

  • ARGH! I know it's a long shot but I just need to ask something?

LiT - Is your nemesis on the red-rimmed bike riding a Langster?

I only ask as I had an encounter with a rather rapid rider last night on the way through Streatham. I picked him up on the small hill heading out of Brixton, we lost sight of each other as we filtered towards the roadworks at Christchurch Road. I arrived at the front and found that he'd ridden along the pavement!

We set off down through Streatham and I was ahead but could see the flash of his very bright helmet mounted light on the road to my right, a quick lane change by him saw him get ahead when we hit traffic but I managed to keep up and then dropped him on the run down towards Streatham Station, one of the favorite bits on my route! He came flying past as we approached the next set of lights and I'm ashamed to say I didn't catch up qwith him again after that!

In my defense he did go halfway across the junction and semi-RLJ'd and once he was ahead his complete lack of a decent back light also made him difficult to track on the dark road ahead so I have no idea which way he went :-(
