    Public transport.

Had a heavy weekend, decided to get the train in because I was feeling lazy. Get to the station, train turns up, train sits there for a few minutes. It is announced that a truck has hit one of the bridges so the train isn't going anywhere.

Walked home, got on bike, rode in. Only fifteen minutes late, in the end, but a less than ideal start to the day.
  • Contour HD has stopped working. To be fair it's not been the same since I landed on it when I came off. Now it won't start recording and the (frickin') lasers won't come on. So it looks like the power switch is borked.

Well out of warranty and clearly battered, so I guess it's a strip down and see what I can break trying to fix it. :(

  • Did 60-odd miles on the best bike yesterday, lovely peaceful day in the Surrey Hills interrupted by the sound of my drive-side bottom bracket disintegrating. Cracking noise so loud on both down-strokes I honestly thought it was a problem with the frame. Bike mechanic at the top of Box Hill kindly diagnosed it for me but he didn't have a ceramic GXP to replace it (and I only had coffee money). Off to LBS to see if the bearings are replaceable. Had nothing but trouble with this BB/K-Force Light crankset.

FFS, LBS just called and not only is the BB forked, the pedal insert has come totally loose on the non-drive side :( Seems it's a known issue with the crankset but it was second-hand so I don't know if I'll be able to get a warranty replacement :( That's several hundred quid down the drain.

If it's a known issue the manufacturer/importer might roll over without too much provocation. But very dull all the same.
  • I'm fed up with all the drivers who think it's fine to take there road rage out on me. Whatever he thought I may have done how is chasing me down the road swerving into me and trying to knock me off ok? I have no doubt that the only reason I got away injury free is when he got out of his van (silver, LD61 5DZ near Richmond) I screamed repeatedly and loudly enough for him to pause and then sprinted for my life. If you're looking for why more girls don't cycle, look no further. But with idiots like him on the road and no one to hold him to account I don't blame them, very tearful and shaken ride after that.

People like that make the world a worse place. Glad you're safe BC.
What do you mean you think 64cm is a big frame?
  • Thanks, safe, just shaken! Reminds you how unfairly vulnerable we are...

Make sure you report the incident, he should at least get a visit from the police, Roadsafe I think. It's depressing knowing that there are prats out there like this on the roads. Don't let him put you off getting back out there, it's up to all of us to get idiots like this off the road, not allow them to bully us off them. Hope you are OK.
  • Thanks, I'll make sure I do that.

Report him..like now, go on....right now!

I normally ride in worth another guy who works a mile or so from me, riding in yesterday riding buddy gets a flat - "no worries" he will just sort it an we can carry on our merry way. He had forgotten his pump an i had too

dammit any ways he starts pushing his bike an i ride along slowly next to him. about 6 other cyclists ride past (proper cyclists i.e lycra etc) not one of them offer help - where is the camaraderie people??

  • Don't bother relying on Roadsafe, log it on there but also go to the police station. All I got from an incident with a K9 Capers Van in Kingston was a note from roadsafe saying "hmmm... that sounds dangerous, maybe you should report it to the Police" !!!

There are lots of dicks about, sadly some idiot allows them to even have driving licences. I hope you're ok and it makes you more determined to stick up for our place on the road. if were growing at 20% PA they'll be 5 times more of us on the road in 10 years, that dick in a van is fighting a loosing battle.
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.

That's pretty disappointing. I always offer help and have been offered help on a few occasions. Most times, everyone is fine, say thanks and ride on, but just now and then it might be someone struggling with a mech problem or punctured without a pump.

Let's stop and help each other.

MuckyHeifer you should move down to nice friendly London, somebody on the SCR thread was saying how many people stopped to offer help in a similar situation.
Blonde Cyclist, Blimey, I hope the police do something about that. Sorry to hear it. He's obviously more than a little inadequate.

BC: Sounds horrible, glad you're ok. Report the piece of c%£p to the police, and take comfoirt in the fact that he's probably in terrible pain from a stress induced stomach ulcer.

My rant.....(almost as bad as BC's)....I spent £80 at Wiggle and didn't get any haribo! Shocking!

Thats awful, BC! Glad you're ok. Sounds like a terrifying experience and not one that should go unpunished. Do report it if you can.

  • Ambulance driver who decided to cut across me when he didn't have enough time to do so last night. He wasn't on an emergency call either. I don't know why the emergency services have it in for me - it was a policewoman who knocked me off in 2010. I'm keeping an eye out for Cave Rescue having a pop now.

Just about to cut pretty much brand new, beautifully applied, fizik bar tape away. It's gonna hurt :(

It is for the greater good  I have re-taped old bar tape before with some success.

Pinched a brand new tube trying to fit my GP 4 seasons to my new wheels. I couldn't get the last quarter of the tyre onto the rim so I gave up as it was getting late

I'm going to need some hulk style strength tonight to do it.

Sorry, but that did make me chuckle.

chain came off this morning on Cheyne Walk, wrapped itself around crank-arm and bent my large chainring all out of shape.

It had been running so sweetly too... and then that. She is a cruel mistress.
