Not really a rant, but nowhere else to put it.

Office guys are whinging about how expensive kids are. Suffice to say, they all do pretty well.

I tried to bring a little perspective: "look, if you can't afford it, how do you think poor people afford it? They all manage!"

    "f*ck poor people"

He didn't have anything else to add to that.

Woke up this morning with a really sore lower back. It's been stiff all day (hush Greg) and is really p1ssing me off. It was playing up on Sunday during my ride (my fault for grinding into a headwind for 30 odd miles) but was fine later and on Monday. Weird thing is, I didn't even cycle yesterday. Tried stretching it out after the commute in this morning, but to no avail. Hoping the ride home doesn't make it worse, hoping to hit RP before work tomorrow. Stupid bloody backs.

On the way in this morning.
What was that hand signal you made? I could'nt quite make it out.
    Graham. :D

I had to laugh when I saw the video afterwards - it looks deliberate but was pure luck. With sound you can hear my own bleep machine when I insert an extra word into the middle of "unbelievable" I (somehow) made it silent for public consumption

Failed my motoribke MOD 1 test today on the 500cc.

1 little mistake (clipping cone on swerve test), and everything else perfect. Drat!

Booked in again for a couple of weeks, but this could get expensive :(

    Fudging decorators.

Today, a week later than originally quoted, they finished painting, papering and decorating. This is good because the carpets and furniture arrive tomorrow.

I ask about making the landing light switch two way. Something that was raised during the quote and has been raised every other day as a reminder. Apparently it's going to cost about £200 (fine since I knew a certain amount of work was involved) but it's also going to require chasing new cabling into the walls that were painted, plastered and papered yesterday and under the floors that are due to be carpeted tomorrow.

Hands up all those who thinks the decorators are getting the remaining 10% of their fee.....

Go and check-in online for our flight to Ireland tomorrow (long weekend, visting friends...) and then the missus calls and baby Cat has D&V so we're not going. £300 down the swanny. Apparantly you can get your taxes back though...?

On the plus side - can now ride to work tomorrow and go on club run Sunday!

    Hooray!

Wouldn't you be cheaper just getting the cat put down and buying another one or rescuing another one.

    a. Yeh, let's all just replace pets with new ones when they're ill.
    b. I'm guessing Baby Cat is an actual baby and named as such on this forum after his or her daddy, Clarkey Cat.
    c. The £300 is down the swanny from the flights; not related to vets bills.

Or am I being thick? Again?

Baby Cat isn't actually a cat.

My tile supplier has just called to tell me that the last three tiles I need (after the tiler and the glazier broke the spares I'd already bought which is fair enough because it's a thin glass tile and the cut required is very hard) won't be delivered today even though I paid for 24hr delivery.

That means I still won't be able to use my shower room this weekend.

This morning I was very excited about getting back into my bedroom on Saturday. Now I just wanted everyone to fuck off out of my house.

Asprilla and Benn are correct - Baby Cat is not actually a cat. He's a (usually) bonny lad of 15 months.

However, I hadn't really considered the possibility of putting him down... until now.

    a) I was being sarcastic
    b) Never thought of that so it's really me being thick.

I've failed with adding smilies to indicate my sarcasm again I think

Suzy - don't be so hard on yourself. A smile wouldn't necessarily have elucidated matters - I've seen Scots smile. Its more like a pained grimace crossed with a grotesque sneer. Or maybe thats just my Dad.

There's your problem: you are getting decorators to do a sparks' job. Sparks on first for first fix, then decorate, then second fix.

But yeah, that is spectacularly dumb.

I've got a single contractor to PM project for me and organise all the trades as Mrs A and I are both too busy at the moment. I'm impressed with his work and those of his colleagues, its just his PM skills that leave something to be desired.

I'd say if they want their last 10%, they'll install the extra switch without getting dust on the carpet, and make good the decoration such that you'll never know it was there. It can be done, they just need to be extra careful and go mad with the dust sheets.

Snapped the LH crank today and took a roll on the tarmac to mourn it's passing. :(

Our house alarm just went off, presumably due to father wiring the new sensor wrongly. Yet I seem to be the only one in the house twho heard it.

So much for getting an alarm to alert us to intruders.

Ouch, that was quite a tumble. Hope there was no lasting damage other than to the crank.
On the other hand there was no sound on my computer. Would you mind going back and doing it again with sound?
  • Got rode into today in Richmond Park.

Stopped and had pulled to the side, dismounted some 400 meters from Robin Hood roundabout, standing by the bike, and A london Dynamo rode into my leg with enough force to spin me 180 degrees and down the road a bit.

He as you'd expect came rather worse off, going over the bars and hitting the floor with his knees and then back.

His bike took a chip off the carbon nr the headset. and buckled and cracked in a few places the front wheel (Dura ace) so must of had a fair impact.

clearly he came off worse, But with excellent visibility he managed to to ride into a stationary object, ie me!

From the roundabout i'd be clear to see...

So i'm nursing some great bruises and frankly more than a little cheesed off.

Did he blame you? From what I've read on here about that particular groups of riders I'd say yes.

initially yes, Though he didn't push it when I pointed out that I hadn't moved.

I think he was in fairly shaken up his mate arrived soon after who was fine.

Only other damage to the bike was on the front wheel that needed £8 of attention from LBS. Bike back as was albeit with 175mm LH crank and 170mm chainset. If the difference is too noticable till the new chainset arrives then the Allez will get dusted off.

  • Did 60-odd miles on the best bike yesterday, lovely peaceful day in the Surrey Hills interrupted by the sound of my drive-side bottom bracket disintegrating. Cracking noise so loud on both down-strokes I honestly thought it was a problem with the frame. Bike mechanic at the top of Box Hill kindly diagnosed it for me but he didn't have a ceramic GXP to replace it (and I only had coffee money). Off to LBS to see if the bearings are replaceable. Had nothing but trouble with this BB/K-Force Light crankset.
