When the weather comes in, in Sydney, it really comes in.
yep, 120mm of rain in 14hours, the worst for 5 years - just my luck.

On the + side free wifi in Sydney airport... the only free thing I have found in Oz so far! Its soooo expensive here, at least 50% up on UK prices, no wonder Wiggle et al ship so much stuff here!

This is true. The only thing I found cheaper than over here was a very particular pair of Asics CX running shoes - everything else was the same or more expensive by a good chunk.

Did you go and see the fake Crown Jewels?

    Now for my rant:

Some little f***ers have been messing with things they shouldn't mess with and as a result, the Regents Canal at Camden is empty. It could be controlled work by British Waterways, but I very much doubt it.

Is that something to do with finding that girls's body? Wasn't that in the Regents Canal?

It was, but at Haggerston which is downstream from Camden. So - and I could be wrong (there was one time in the early 90s) - I doubt these two are connected.

I kind of hope they are connected though. At least that way, it means some little chavs haven't fucked up the locks.

Okay, I don't want to drag this one out. If it's related to the body they found in Regent's Canal, then I retract the rant.

BUT the Regents Canal is pretty long and the torso was found downstream - that's why I assumed they're not connected.

    Back to ranting, people...

Presumably they're looking for the limbs.
Anyway, quite, back to the ranting.

Same has happened to my running and riding - just being far too sporadic for my liking for the past two or three weeks. Circumstances, work, weather, injury...

    Start afresh tomorrow!

Yeah. But a ride after 4 days off is never that fun.

Weekend rides are best when you have good miles in your legs from that week.

Sitting in the Volkswagen dealers in Newport waiting for them to replace the Bluetooth module on my car (again!) and all I'm getting is emails and phone calls from accounts to chase customers for overdue invoices. FFS I'm in technical sales, I am not a bloody accounts receivable person, and a VW dealer is not the best place from which to make these calls. Why can it not wait a couple of hours until I get into the office?????????

20 minutes run-around from RBS telephone banking and got nowhere in comparison to less than 2 minutes for a complete answer from First Direct. I rue the day that RBS pulled the direct lines to the branches; I'm close to shutting the account and moving everything to FD. I hope a Canadian goose defecates copiously on the odious pate of Fred Goodwin.

To the copper driving the police van on Brixton Hill who bollocked me for talking to a car driver and told me to stop my yapping or walk on the pavement-she had just ridden into my right leg, albeit slowly, as she pulled off from the junction oblivious to my presence in front and just to the side of her. Didn't hurt but not nice and i was letting her know. Calmly. unlike you!

Wore one of my new Planet X merino baselayers for the first time today, and now the jersey that was over it smells like a blocked drain.

Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I know there were some 'pongy' ones in the past...

Was considering bagging one as they are reduced atm, but may now steer clear.

I've got a few merino base layers and they do get a big pongy, even after light use.

    PX ones?

I've had an Endura BaaBaa for ages and that's fine. I can wear it for three commutes without it needing to be washed.
I'll give the PXs a few washes and dry them out in the fresh air, hopefully that'll solve it. And hopefully my jacket doesn't smell too!

Not sure what brand actually, Endura or DHB or something like that. I don't have any PX ones.

Pure merino or mixed with manmade? The few bits I've got that are mixed with manmade can get pongy after lightish use. The 'pure' Icebreaker bits I've got don't seem to at all. When I was skiing I wore a HH fleece over a merino baselayer. The fleece got a bit whiffy after day 2, I wore the baselayer alone on day 3 and no smell at all. In fact, it was so cold skiing (-23C) that I ended up wearing my 260 merino top 5 of the 6 days - and it was still remarkably unsmelly by the end of the week.

Snapped my front Road Racer on the way home tonight on the Bristol-Bath cyclepath. All I have left are the struts and the nose piece. Looked for the rest of the guard but it hid itself in the bushes. Off to Evans with a pricematch tomorrow.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

All of mine are 100% merino. It's not sweat, it's a smell that's already on the top that's brought out by getting damp.

I had seen this reported by other buyers of PX merino, and they said it went away after a few washes, so we'll see. I also lived in my BaaBaa for a 4 day MTBing trip (wore it in the day to bike, and at night when it was cold in the tent) and it was still pretty fresh.

    Anyway, RAAANNNNT!!

DS11 WVN, silver Toyota Avensis estate overtook me as the road split into 2 lanes each way (1: left and straight on, 2: right and straight on), that was fine. I was in primary in lane 1, he was in lane 2. Lane 2 was backed up and stationary, lane 1 was clear, so I carried on, then as I pass him, he changes lanes. He'd overtaken me 15 seconds earlier, but hadn't looked for me (or did, and didn't care) and didn't indicate. Just suddenly pulled out into 'my' lane, hit me as I braked and shouted "Whooooa", pushed me to the kerb, left me almost toppled over with one foot on the verge then floored it to get away.

I called in at the police station on the way home and was, yet again, met by utter don't-give-a-f*ckery. "He hasn't committed an offence because you weren't injured". Thankyou officer, keep up the good work.
