No, no way near good enough to go on a bike trip loL!
is end of financial year for the wife at work, so littlun and i escaped to somerset (wells)to mothers! good bike shop there though, very helpful and friendly, Bike City, got some good wheel advice fromt hem too!
Yeah it was a pure comedy moment from behind! 20-0 in one mud hole! iirc 16 punctures in 10 miles for that ride!Timmo.

Helen - what level did you get to?
Go too big and it'll be near impossible to get out on, got too small and it'll be hateful to try and get up on.
My initial thoughts are a biggish shortboard - maybe a 6'10" with a bit of volume.
I am a total surfboard nerd (ex sponsored, used to compete, was a Rip Curl rep, a comp judge, etc) so happy to try and help!
Get a board tomorrow if you can - looking nice. Small and clean0 -
not good really..could catch a wave and some times get up.. 610 sounds v small...was going for 7'6 ish or a mini mal 8 foot?
i dont know...
what makes best?
there are so many...
Timmo..going to try and stand up!!! might regret it up going to try..0 -
Helen - you are pretty light though so a big board will be too cumbersome.
I'd go 7'6" maximum with a wide nose and plenty of volume.
Makes don't really matter (unlike with bikes) - try and get a UK shape if you can though - they suit our waves much better than imports.
Thinking new or 2nd hand? If new then let me know and I can steer you towards some good shapers that make the ideal type of board for you. if 2nd hand, head to Newquay and have a good look around all the surf shops.
Good luck!0 -
Early morning Bissoe mission on my own today. Absolutely loved it! I think the perma mud/rooty Idless was partially responsible for me getting a bit narked about MTBing.
Met Mark and his roadie gang - all fully lycra'd up while I was in my baggies and MTB kit!0 -
Glad you had a good ride..what a great day..
if i was to buy new where would you recomend?
so many shops...so many boards...
thanks for your help..0 -
soudns good Matt! did you just do bissoe or did you coast to coast it??
didnt wake up till 10 this morning and in a lot of pain after servicing the car and then spending 2 hours sorting the exhaust! good job i made it out saturday mornign with the trailer for a ride!
with any luck, will get out tomorow whilst littluns at nursery, unless the enighbour sold his car and needs it cleaning! (agreed to clean it gratis if he sells it to the other neighbours daughter! if not it'll cost him a full load off his truck to the tip! hahah!)
got second floatation session on tuesday so if fortnight ago's anything to go by, prolly wont make it out on the weekend! so best make the most of it tomorow if i make it!Timmo.

Timmo - stuck the bike in the car, drove to Bissoe, clocked up 8 miles on the Bissoe trail (just to make it worthwhile) then headed for the "action" part of the mines. Really good fun.
Good luck with the treatment - sounds like you are having a pretty hard time of it at the moment.
Helen - I highly recommend the guy who has shaped my boards for almost 20 years - Graeme Bunt (Bunty boards) - he makes superb boards for all abilities and gives great advice. My avatar has me on one of his boards but he does everything well.
He is in Wadebridge. Mention my name (surname Sutherland) - might help a bit!
His number is 01208 814282. He always has plenty of second hands boards available too.0 -
i remember Bunty's from back when i used to bodyboard a lot in the early 90's! used to be popular back then!
good to hear still going strong! the other local one i knew of was Custard point in newq. are they still goign??Timmo.

Custard Point are long gone as are many others.
Bunty is still going (I know him well) but he's quite quiet at the moment.
We have four of his boards!
Here's three of them - the flowery ones is Mrs Matt's = we now have another 6'6" shortboard for her too.

shame custard point are no more, but i suppose its how life is! cant expect themt o be around for ever! i remember my best mate getting a mini mall of them and his dad got them to make a proper surfboard bodyboard too!
nic elooking boards though matt,Timmo.

I'm doing far too much raod work @mo.
43.5 miles yesterday and I am going to have a go at racing this Saturday followed by another 50ish miles on sunday.
Great for fitness, but I really notice my off raod ability is getting pretty rusty.
Anyone fancy doing a regular(ish) midweek evening MTB ride?Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

Mark - my slight hesitation about a road bike (as mentioned, thinking about a semi roady Tricross) is that I'd have to up my mileage and therefore time spent cycling.
Anything much above 2 hours is a bit much (with the baby at home)!
Had great fun at Bissoe on the mines - a bit cautious after my last Idless crash (which still hurts 5 weeks later) but still very enjoyable.
Got new shoes recently - Spesh Tahos (without cleats) - very grippy for off road walking and cycling and help my slightly bad knee.0 -

I may be up for that Mark. The only problem is it'd have to be after 8, after the kids are in bed0 -
Was thinking something like 5.30 - 6pm for a couple of hours max.
You gotta keep the kids happy, I've gotta keep the wife happy.
Would be OK doing something occasionally though.Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

Matt,
went to see Mr Bunty and got my self a lovely board...7ft 4inches and at a very good price to...
now waitig for a day when the surf is small enough for me not to get battered!!!
had a look and i might have to wait its 3-4ft so a bit big for my first outing..
very exciting..
thanks for you help...0 -
Nice one Helen! That's great!
Did a "dawnnie" (in at 6.30am) this morning and scored some cracking waves.
I reckon the weekend should be ideal for you.
If the main beaches are too big, it's always worth trying sheltered spots - Towan in Newquay, St Agnes (be a bit careful here - can get heavy), Harlyn, south end of Gwithian, Porthmeor and a few more!
Also recommend Polzeath - gets plenty of swell but a pretty safe beach that's well patrolled. Some beaches are a bit dangerous - like Mawgan Porth for example.0 -
managed to pop out for a quick blast on the bike today after dropping littlun of at pre-school for 2 hours, Tehidy has dried up lovely and is fast too! managed to knock 6 mins of my previous best time for the loop of three tracks and home, Very pleased with myself! just have to see if i can still walk tomorow hahaha!
felt really good to be out in such nice weather too! and the new shorter stem seemed to be nice too, a little easier to hop of the back of the saddle too, And the new spoke held out so allround a very happy bunny now lol! 8)
dont think i'll make the Nick and steve bodmin spectatcular this sunday though, shame as the last one was great, just a little too much for me!Timmo.
