Firstly what have airbags got to do with anything? Did you read Mega's post? Can you read? Mega's comment about helmets comes directly after his comment about obeying the rules. Many things can improve safety but aren't legal requirements. I won't go through them all as that would be absurd, wouldn't it?

I do wear a helmet so I wasn't attempting to justify NOT wearing one I was just pointing out it is not against the law. Something he should already know as a cyclist.

Anyway sorry I annoyed you so much. I do hope you find your village again soon.

When he mentioned helmets and lights it was in direct reference to safety as well as legality, so yes, I can read:

" I frequently see people without helmets and no lights and I just wonder, aside from the bad press it inevitably attracts, “do you seriously just want to be killed?” "

Does that make it simple enough for you?

Ooooh, the old "I know you are but what am I?" tactic, shrewd move.
Are you old enough to be out cycling on the roads by yourself?

I take it apart from the assumption you have made (incorrectly or not, that's for megacycle to clarify), you care not to comment on the rest of my previous post?

    Out of interest.

I always stop at red lights.

However, if the phase is long I do get off the bike and push it through the junction.

    I do this because
    a: I don't believe it is illegal
    b: I don't believe it is dangerous
c: I don't think it affects any other road user.

However, having browsed a few forums I've noticed that it seems to piss a few people off.

Why should this be and am I wrong?

I don't think you're doing anything wrong, particularly, though I couldn't be harrised to do it myself - I'm never in that much of a hurry. The only argument I can think of against is that it emphasises the status of a bike as somewhere between a vehicle and a pedestrian, where we'd probably be better off if they thought of us all as vehicles, but I'd say that's minor.

The reason it annoys some cardines is that they can't do the same; even those in the megabucks "prestige" cars have to wait in line while the lowly cyclist jumps the queue (as they probably see it). Same reason some of them will deliberately pull right into the kerb to stop us filtering. *shrug*
Even if the voices aren't real, they have some very good ideas.
