  • Hell even I would be up for that, what with a nearly fixed knee I'm desperate to do something stupid, a night ride sounds very good indeed. Perhaps if we had a set date I could ask my local mtb newbies if they fancied it too...
  • Id be up for it as well but...... would a flashing cateye be any good for a night ride? and also i dont want to be at the back of the group (watched to many horror movies) :D

    Don't worry about lights, just eat a plate of carrots 1 hour before :wink:

    That's the secret about night riding. The rider at the back gets a turbo boost from all the forest monsters :shock: :shock:
    Oh, and Nick likes to hide (or did he fall :wink: ) in ditches and jump out shouting "Grrrrr" to scare us all :twisted:

    Someone name a date.... I'm good for any date...

    I've just email the Forestry Commision to ask what the score is on night riding @ Bedgebury. No doubt they'll come back with 'for you own safety we don't allow' blah, blah, nanny-state, etc.
    I'll post the reply as soon as/if they reply.

    <OFFICIAL HAT ON>

    According to the OS Mapping Key, Bedgebury is a nice green colour which denotes access to land on Foot. The key then refers you to this website:

    http://www.openaccess.gov.uk

    Searching for BEDGEBURY results in the map search section giving you a lovely hue of Yellow which denotes free access land:

    "Access Land
    The access land shown in yellow on these maps consists of open country (mountain, moor, heath and down) and registered common land. These yellow areas normally have public access rights, but watch out for local notices about excepted or restricted areas either on this website or on the ground. "

    <OFFICIAL HAT OFF>

    From the looks of things you have no problem with access, but they may have an issue with 10 sweaty bikers tearing up their trails, however you are permitted to WALK the area so maybe we could all run around the trails instead.

    Im guessing there would be no problems, but the ultimate decision is probably down to those entrusted with Bedgeburys security in mind etc.

    But, sod it, just go! - most riders here could out run a security guard or ranger! :lol:

    Guys just got back from Bedge, came off twice for no reason apart from riding like a woman! Both slow mud-based slides, Im really not hooking it up round there! (Any tips?)

    Anyhow...

    Have any of you seen the sign at the southern trail entrance (track you use if parking outside or coming from Bewl) stating that if any Horse Rider wants to ride out of hours they must have a permit/permission?

    er.. I did! :lol:

    So I would expect that out of hours biking might be considered beyond the rules!...

    Oh well...... :twisted:

    I think that's a standard disclaimer and a way of limiting horse riders.
    I took a solo trip round there tonight too....
    I found the trails nice 'n' quick. I was reading on the FC webbie that the singletrack updates have been completed :shock:
    The only changes I could see since the last time I was there were wooden start/finish barriers. Whoo :roll:
    Even so, I did stay out there till it got dark and I think it'll be a HUGE blast riding there at night and sod the rights and wrongs.
    Hic....

    It was really muddy in places last Thursday night, will have to give up on the place soon for the winter. Its a shame as some of the bits where they randomly threw down gravel, its finally settled so as long as u stay on the centre line, its a blast. Im sure one bit was extended slightly not far from the start, either that or it was my bad memory confusing me or the fact I was looking out for werewolves as it was a full moon! Saw a group of 3 riders going round as well. Decided I need new lights now, 25w isnt enough heh

    Managed to crash at about 3mph yesterday avoiding a tree stump then hit another, landed on the bike bruising my legs badly, put my hand out to land on but as I was going down a hill, I stopped by the end of my bars stabbing me in my side just under my ribs, nice and bruised and painful now :(

    Yeah, I'm good for that. Only Blean or fancy BBH/Bedgebury?

    On the subject of Bedgebury, I got the following reply from FC:-
    Thanks for your email. Please be aware that all cycling within the forest is carried out at your own risk. We have recently granted permission for the Bedgebury Forest Cycle Club to participate in weekly night rides so you may want to make contact with them. They carry their own insurance for their members and have a safety procedure which they follow should there be any accidents.

    Access to the forest via our car park is obviously limited to our opening hours, however, for those that use the forest by accessing it at other points there aren't any limitations regarding time of day.
    So lets tear up Bedgebury one night a.s.a.p. :twisted:

    Agreed, think it's time for the last few rides there before winter.

    I thought that too. Cuoldn't quite decide what they'd done.

    Ouch. At least you avoided the dreaded wooden bridge, unlike some others here. (deadpool2e & bmjboy :roll: )
