LOL no the reason for the sound track is so you can not hear me busting a lung, before the sound track was added if you closed your eyes it sounded like a 80's porn video :D

May the force be with you.......

Hahaha :D , so you know what an 80s porn video is like then? starred in many? lol

    Anyway, back to topic.

Saturday is forecasted to be sunny spells

Sunday is forecasted to be heavy rain

I know which day i would prefer, the one where i will stay dry. At the moment i feel like Bedgebury but what do you guys think? you say and ill just follow. 9am start?

  • Alrighty there

I'm a newbie to these forums but not a newbie to riding! I'm in Kent (Canterbury to be precise) and would be interested in joining up for a spin around some Kent trails.

Anything planned for the upcoming weekends?

If you are going up Bedgebury at the weekend I recommend crud catchers and rear mud guards of some description or you might end up like this heh (or maybe I just got really scared in the dark LOL http://www.sevenoaksmotorclub.com/iB_html/uploads/post-1-76709-Cimg1319.jpg

Anyway, not long been back from the weekly night ride up there. Another great thrash. Decided to not just stick to the downhill thrashes bits nearest to where we park and so I plotted a route into the phone/gps to fireroad us up to the top of the Forest for a couple of fun sections there. I didnt use my main light for this bit to save battery power but then discovered my led light batteries are just about flat plus I dont have a mount for the phone yet so I was riding in near pitch black, one handed along muddy fireroads more or less seeing by the gps on the phones screen heh, not one crash!

Came out of one bit to find a massive owl sitting on a post only a couple of meters away then heard others screeching later on! We had one of those surreal, oh my god here come the aliens to give us full cavity search moments when we saw 7 or 8 white dots moving sideways in front of us about 50 metres away at perfect spacing and with no noise. After dismissing ideas of aliens I thought it was a train then I realised it had no noise and there is no train line in the forest (!) then one got brighter as it came round the corner and turned out to be the lead rider of a group of 7 or 8 riders!

Later on we then saw another group of 3 and a pair as well. Busy up there! We let the pair have a head start of about 30 metres into the 2nd section if you had started at the official start and used them as a target and they were caught half way down it heh, I love that section, its a blast even at night.

Heres the map of where we rode, actually did just over 10 miles (lap is around 8miles) as we did a few of the more fun bits a couple of times

Sounds like you had an excellent ride Breezer, ive yet to do a night ride at Bedgebury but it sounds like it is really fun. Are you sure that is mud on your jeans after your near Alien Encounter?
  • I cannot do Saturdays as my nose is firmly to a grindstone. Sunday is good for me though. Bedge or Blean would be nice, Blean is near me tho...

fingers crossed I'll be up for some weekend morning rides in the next week or so . . .

Stupidly busy time of year at work for me at the moment, with everyone wanting projects finished before xmas.

I've ridden at Bedgebury a couple of times and thought it was good (was a year or so ago though), but would like to see more of the real Kent singletrack.

hope to see you on the trails soon

    Hi,

Just ordered 2 Fenix P3D Q5's from GlowGadgets :P That's 430 lumens ( whatever they are ) which is BRIGHT 8)
    I LOVE Christmas

Got no choice now but to get out in the dark  Once I've tried 'em out we'll have to arrange a night ride @ Blean or Bedgebury 8)

I am probably going to get one as a helmet light, I cant see two of them being wide enough beam wise for normal use but could be wrong. Bedgebury is so twisty which is the problem and even with my 24deg bulb its only just enough. When I get a helmet one I will run a 36deg flood on the bars.

Went over to Friston on saturday to do most of the xc course there and then this 2 mile section I found of constant twisty single track marked by the locals. It was absolutely lethal there. The wet leaves hid the wet chalk and wet roots. I binned it at one point with terminal front end wash out. Even on small corners the rear was power sliding then the front would slide leading to constant 2 wheel drifts. Great fun though :)

430 lumens seems like quite a lot :D You'll have to let us know if they fit the bill!

Just checked out the website. That's a hell of a lot of lumens per £ you get! 8)

I'm still trying to make my mind up about lights. My gf wants some for Christmas so am having a good look round at the moment...

As soon as I get 'em I'll post what they're like (maybe some pics/vids too  )
  • Ade,

can you direct link to exact product? I couldn't find the ones you got.

You'll have to come on a Kent Trails thursday night ride...

The lights I'm getting are here (dodgy website, not always working  )
  • Impished- My boss has just got one of those and although verry bright (i think brighter than my Stella 180) it uses the CR123 batteries, which are bloody expensive. And according to the guy that runs Glow gadjets you can't use rechargables because they are a lower amperage. I am going to go for 2 L2D Q3's which use 2xAA, and can also run rechargables. If you are going to use rechargables let me know how you get on.

lost-time- I am going to have to take a rain check for tomorrows ride because my rear mech is knackered. Think one of the jocky wheel bearings has gone. I was out riding last night and it was unbeleavably slow, only done 10 miles and i was so knackered i felt sick. Hopefully see you next Thursday.

    Andy.

P.S. Have you got your front mech sorted yet, as i have a Doare with a 27.2 clamp if you want it?

Andy, Yep, got front mech sorted. Thanks anyway. No worries about thursday...You'll have to come along sunday....!

I have a Sram X-9 rear mech if you need to borrow it.......Check your PMs I've sent you my mobile # incase you need it.

Thanks anyway but i am running Shimano, so won't work. I am hopefully going to get an 08 XT Shadow mech tomorrow, but i don't think i will have enough time to fit it in time for tomorrows ride.
I would love to do Sunday but i am working all weekend

Bet it was a bit wet and windy too. I'm sick of this bloody wind! Was riding to work this morning down a hill where i am usually doing 30odd mph and i came to a complete stop  Rant over :)

Hope the weather is a bit better next week. I wasn't that bothered about missing it when it started chucking it down.

What condition are the marked trails in? I havn't been over there since Tuesday because the weather has been pants, but it's my day off tomorrow so i am going to do the black route, and stick 2 fingers up to this crappy British weather!
