    Hi Tom,
Yes, there should be a couple more pics earlier in the thread, also some on my Flickr (I'm sure you can find that from the photo properties above).
Having seen both in the flesh, I'm very pleased I got the brown. It's not plain brown bit has a lovely gold metallic sheen, looks especially good in sunlight.
I'm very pleased with it...Get one now while they're on special!

Ps sending this from my phone, hence why no new pics attached...

Well my little commuter, bought from a police auction, I sold the very long travel mazza forks and wheels, put on some Kona Project 2 forks (ground off the V brake mounts), from what I had laying about a pair of Hope Project 2's laced to some mavic 700c rims, some old Hope Mono Mini's for brakes.

Since the photo she now has a Thomson stem and post topped off with a Selli saddle, XT front mech, rear mech and pedals that were in my bits box.

When the front sprockts and BB go I'll get a 48t XT chain set for her.

We do about 60 miles a week and shes great fun to ride.
    This is why!

The 'its icy outside' winter hack. I really don't fancy cycling 17 miles on these tyres but will if needed...

Just treated my Dawes to an end of year rebuild. Not that it needed much. I replaced the straddle cables (still need to crop them), new large and middle chainrings, a chain, one brake cable (the other brake and gear cables are the originals) and new bar tape. Otherwise, all its needed all year was a couple of pairs of brake blocks and tyres. Who says you need single speed for low running costs?

Seriously, I don't think she looks too bad for 20 years and nearly 7000 miles this last year alone. I reckon a new pair of handbuilt wheels from Spa Cycles is in order though - the front wheel and tyre combo weighs in at 4lbs

Ahah. Knew it could take full 'guards - which ones are they, which tyres have you got on it, and what's the clearance like? (please :) )

Edit: Oh, actually, that's with the rim brakes -- I was after the Day01 Alfine...

Move along now, nothing to see here.

I plan to start commuting the home to train station part of my commute by bike next Wednesday (when my £1300/annum car park pass expires!). Over the past few months I've tried in vain to buy a cheap road bike to use for the daily grind. I usually ride a Trek 1.7, which although I appreciate to many isn't a high end bike, is in immaculate OCD condition. I couldn't bare for it to get knicked or even to get scratched or damaged while parked up.

So, after winning various bikes on eBay only for them all to fall through due to various idiot scammers / people realising the bike had been stolen so they couldn't actually sell it (they wanted more for it). I gave up on the plan and decided to convert my trusty mid '90s Marin Bear Valley. I got as far as buying a flat bar and speccing some slicks when i finally managed to bid, win and actually pay for and collect a Specialized Allez.

It's a fair few years old and was filthy when I collected it but I've slowly been bringing it back to its former glory, while still keeping it subtle to hopefully slip under the tea-leaves radar and changing things to make them more commuter friendly.

I've fitted a Cateye rear light that I've had for a year or so. This is a 10 LED one that operates as 2 separate rows of 5 that you can switch on and off individually and flash/constant/scatter/strobe independently of each other. Essentially it's epilepsy condensed into Taiwanese plastic. I'll be supplementing it with other rear lights as a large part of my commute is on un-lit national-speed-limit country roads.

    cateye.jpg

I've also fitted some old M515 SPDs from my mountain bike. I'll move my M540s from my Trek to my mountain bike at some point and get some Look Keos for my Trek and upgrade to Look cleats and better/lighter shoes for my road bike.

    m515.jpg

I also fitted new tubes and 23c Continental Ultra Gatorskins. I'm hoping to keep it as light and quick as possible but wanted some added puncture protection.

So this is how she stands so far.

More goodies to fit tomorrow night...

Finished off my commuter and took it for its maiden voyage this weekend.

    New black Ritchey tape.

    tape.jpg

Front lights. The SSC P7 is fantastic for un-lit country roads. Also have 2 x Fibreflares for my rucksack to supplement the Cateye on the back.

    lights.jpg

Also fitted Shimano brake pads from my other bike (and upgraded the ones on that) and new Crud Road Racer 2 mudguards.

    How it looks now:

    allez_.jpg

It rides well - not that heavy despite the commuter kit and rolls really quickly. I can see my commute becoming a daily timetrial . I adjusted the gears before I set off on the test ride and managed to mess the front derailleur up completely and ended up stuck on the 53 front ring so it turned into a good training ride.

Here is my 2010 Giant Defy 2. Completely standard apart from the Cateye Lights, AGU Saddle Bag, Shimano SPD 520s, Giant MiniPump2 and Giant water bottle cage.

Plans for the future include changing the tyres, replacing the brake pads and long term I'd like to have shifters with all cables built in, but that is purely for asthetic reasons :D

Done just shy of 700km on it now and I'm very happy with it.

I have been running my Trek FX as a SS for around 7 months now,but only last week I converted the flat bar to drops.

It actually worked out rather cheap.I won a Giant Connect SL drop bar on ebay for £1.20 came of a new bike.A pair of Tektro rl520 v brake drop levers £17.99, BBB bar tape from chainreaction for £6.00 and two new clarks inner and outer brake cables £2.99 each.
    So £31.17 for the lot.

I also had to use a shorter stem as the one I had was a 100mm, but the top tube on hybrids tends to be a touch longer than a compact road frame. So I popped on a 75mm which I had in my shed,I had tried an 80 and 90 also.It all went rather well, even the bar tape,I was a bar tape virgin...

I'm really enjoying the extra had positions and like the drops for sprinting up small hills.

    Very nice!

I am looking at getting a rack for my Langster - and like the look of the one you have. Assume it is a Topeak? Also what version of the Topeak bag is that? What's it like for space?

It's the Topeak MTX EXP (there is a bigger one with an expanding top) - Great for what I use it for - can carry 3 heavy locks, shoes, clothes and stuff. They aren't waterproof, but £12 will get you a waterproof cover. The side Panniers will fold up and away if you don't need them.

Easy on / off. Thats a Topeak Super Tourist DX rack - very sturdy.

Carrera Crosstracks. Reynolds 525 frame, canti brakes, 7 speed Shimano 200cx shifters, Biopace chainset.

Bike must be nearly 20 yrs old. Owned it for 10.

Just fitted new Decathlon back wheel(£20!) , new gear cables, Acera rear mech, 7 speed freewheel., 9 speed chain ,700x35 Schwalbe Silento and Vittoria Randonneur Cross tyres

Use this to commute as I don't like using my road bikes because of the deplorable state of the roads.

It is still good enough to rise to some SCR challenges.

Of which there have been many...
