So I spent £800 on a bike with a straight handlebar. The saddle has since been set to a sensible height, I've removed the wanky reflectors and fitted my lights.

Does look very pretty, and that looks like a pretty mashy ratio. Those pedals are however an abomination

haha. they're temporary i promise. it came with some lovely original clips, but i find it next to impossible to get into them, so just chucked the dmrs on to take it for a spin. kind of want flats on there as it's sort of a pub bike too, so i don't want to have to put my my bike shoes on every time i use it. I'm eying up some track pedals, but they may have to wait til i've got a new saddle. and seat post. and front chain ring. and brakes. and bar tape. old bikes are expensive... :?

What is that bolted collar below the headset spacers for??
actually I'm not sure... I think that is to tighten the stem or something like that?

It looks like a seatpost clamp. I don’t think it should be there... did you buy the bike 2nd hand? Has the PO bodged a spacer?

Agree. Or could it be a quill to adheadset adaptor?

Had to get out early this morn', and having a house guest meant the bike had to stay in my bedroom. The advantages of a) the clean belt drive and b) a return to bachelorhood are clear.

Stuck some pedals on the Tricross so I can use it on Monday. Of course, now my RockHopper has no pedals...

She was - an Evo, WRC 6 edition (hence the Martini colours). We were together in 2002. It was a passionate relationship but in the end it was clear we couldn't be together. She was having an affair with the auto-electrician, so I had to let her go.

Why it for the rain to stop - there's mudguards on there.

Yup, though I'm not quite sure why my LBS put the back one that way (wasn't like that when I got the bike)......

Is that rear tyre thinner than the front?

Yup, different sizes. 40mm Schwalbe Marathon on the front, 32mm Conti SportContact on the back (the one on the front went, there's still life in that one).

You'd be better off with the bigger tyre on the back, as more of the weight is in the rear kinda like the conti attack force tyre set.

Well it took some messing about to get the url correct, but here it is. In it's winter state with mudguards, hub dynamo and lights. Have also upgraded from the standard 8 speed to 10 speed and replaced the rear wheel as I wore the original out.

  • Daily commuter since the end of April this year:

    IMG_1392-1.jpg

I have managed about 580 miles so far, with a short daily commute and managing to ride almost every day to work.

I've added a few things since I bought the bike, as highlighted in the image. Its not the fastest commuter bike by a long stretch, but with a short ride to work I appreciate the extra effort required to maintain an 15mph avg, and I lug a fair bit of weight around!
