This is my commuter bike, a 1999 (I think) Trek 7500 that I bought second hand for $100 when I was living in the US, it was bought to replace a stolen Gary Fisher Cronus that I only owned for a relatively short time
Photos are clickable thumbnails
As I bought it:
I wasn't keen on the 'sit up and beg' handlebar/stem combination that it came with so I picked up a new fork from ebay for $20 from a newer Trek FX bike, then my local bike shop supplied a new stem, headset & handlebar:
Crank Brothers platform 5050 pedals:
The bike was also used for BBQ trips:
and when we moved back to the UK I opted to ship the bike with me, since I couldn't imagine finding a bike as good as this for what equated to £50 ... here it is back on home soil:
I have removed the front derailleur since it was broken and surplus to requirement anyway, replaced the chain and rear cassette which was well worn, and this weekend I fitted some new tyres and added some reflective decals to make it visible ... updated pics are in the pipeline.
UPDATE: I have added some additional shots, click here or on the thumbnail to see the album of night shots trying to demonstrate the reflective properties of the Trek!
Cheers

My baby, was fiddling today and dropped the bars 2 spacers and raised the saddle about 10mm... its a mongoose maurice frame, forks and seat post - i have literally swapped out everything else. rides like a dream had to swap out the rear wheel which i trashed. needed a new chain for the 50t chain ring, etc etc....
I love it 8)

I've commuted on most of my bikes, although not the Rudge yet (though that may well happen soon for a lark).
So this is an excuse to show off my bikes:
Orbit Silver Medal 1996. This is my do anything bike. Although I commute just shy of 200km a week, you'll see it has full racks, and I do use it for touring, shopping etc. I even took it out on an evening ride with my son's club. Just so comfortable.
Dawes Super(?) Galaxy 1971. Bought recently for a bargain from a nice chap when I thought my Orbit (see above) frame had died in the BB shell area
My Woodrup road bike. I don't commute on it often, but it's lovely & light (531c) and fast

I should mention that I am current custodian of the yacf forum bike, and I've commuted on it a few times. A strange collection of spare parts that surprisingly creates a rather good bike. It's based around a Fred James frame, and here he is on the way to a ride with Brighton & Hove Clarion:

Claud Butler Urban Levante with Scott AT4 Pro Bars. For the Winter, I fit a light bar riser thingamybob to raise the front lights over the aerobars.
Time for an update methinks... Cracked the frame on the Claud Butler where the toptube meets the seattube. Looked at various options to get just a new frame, but eventually settled on the getting the Focus.
Regular Commuter:
Focus Mares CX bike. Only changes from original spec are the mudguards and Conti Gatorskin tyres (those are Conti Contacts in the pic). Have been using the wheels off the Claud Butler up until recently when I snapped a spoke. Now back with the original ones.
Uber-Fast-Commuter-Of-Doom:
Ribble TT bike, 105 specced throughout. Bought on the C2W Scheme, so I feel obliged to ride to work on it…
Giant XTC:
Use this if I want to play on the trails on the way home. I’ve put flat bars and flipped the stem since that pic.
Giant NRS:
Use this bike if I need a scalping session…

posh_pedaller wrote:Is that one of them new Decathlon fixies? What's it like to ride? Been thinking about one of those for myself.
Yeah its the Decathlon Vitamin SS. Well it rides like a steel mountainbike from the 90s with only one gear... not sure how else to describe it.
I had to change the freewheel straight away as no one is going anywhere stuck with a gear ratio of 36:18 :x a simple change to 36:16 (£7 fitted in Halfords) will do me until I can be bothered to change the chainring and or cranks.
Basically, it's just about cheap enough and ugly enough for me to not have to worry about getting it stollen, while simple enough for me to forget about and concentrate on keeping the MTB going.
If I am honest I am loving the bike so far and am contemplating sticking a flat handlebar on it.0 -
my bike - not on my commute I'm sorry to say0 -
It's not pretty or light but I cetainly feel a bit fitter for it! 9.25 miles to the station, where it is locked up for the day (or weekend).

eddiemiller, it's a cute old-school bike, and looks in great shape but please, if that's the locking you use, upgrade. Given even just a penknife I reckon it'd take maybe 10 minutes at worse to cut through that cable.
I don't mean to be mean, but I'd hate to see it stolen.0 -
Another for a better lock, 9.5 miles on a bike, yes, 9.5 miles walk, NO.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Finally, at long last the steed if just about finished all bar (no pun intended) the arrival of the carbon bar ends tomorrow.
It's ment to be an all purpose compromise commuter/off road/training bike.
Started life like this, a second hand bargain I picked up for a few quid.....
It was chemi-dipped to strip the paint, dye penetrant crack detected, then powder coated, nice & thick.
After 1 set of Rockshock Dukes, 1 pair of Pace RC36 Stealths, I decide on rigid forks as I preferred more direct steering and the bike just handles so well on rigid forks. weighs in at a touch over 20lbs.
