I have this weekend taken the old Raleigh suspension off my commuter and fitted the rigid fork, and it looks very similar to yours (except for the ghetto SS element of it of course) a pic is in my Sig.
Dude, I think you might need another rear light. ;)

My commuter stopped halfway between Chorley and Blackpool at Preston docks on a glorious sunny (chuffin cold) Wednesday morning in Feb.

Bike is Ridgeback Road 02 (2005 model). Only mods are Ergon bar ends (this was their first day of use) and a pair of tyres that don't puncture every 10 miles or so.

IMHO a pretty perfect commuting machine.

  • Hi
Just coming up to a full year commuting & have gone from 16stone to 12 & a half stone.

Have spent a lot of time on the forum getting advice so thought it was time to show my bikes.

Started off for the first 4 months with a 15 year old Raleigh MTB before moving onto a Giant Escape R1 bought via the CTW scheme.

Just swapped the tyres for Continental City Contact due to an average of two punctures per week, due to the factory fitted ones being a little fragile.

Have now caught the bug & plan to buy a proper road bike in the next 12 months.

I built up my new commuter yesterday based around a Trek 6700 XC frame. I went for Kona Project 2 forks for a couple of reasons; many recommendations for people even shops that did not sell them ! and the fact that they are adjusted for MTB’s which normally run 100mm front suspension forks.

    6700F.jpg

Went for the Kooka double adjustable cable disk brakes, although they are currently on loan (to buy) from a friend. The wheels were from my old commuter, but would like to replace them in the not to distant future, may be Mavic Crossride or something. This is my first Hollowtech BB, stayed with 21 gears, I like the reliability of 7 speed systems.

Obviously not quite finished yet, will cut the steering tube when I find the right position, and adjust the mud guards.

    Trek 6700 frame
    WTB headset
    Kona Project 2 forks
Coyote 32 spoke wheels (some I had)
Shimano Deore Hollowtech II crank set 48/36/22
    Shimano cassette 7 speed
    Shimano STX gear levers
    Shimano XTR cables
    Kooka cable disk brakes
    Selfcof post
    Bontrager Inform saddle
    Schwable Marathon Plus tyres
    Bicignals F/R lights and flashers
    Bontrager bar ends

    6700R.jpg

So tomorrow will be it first outing ! Cannot wait to try the flashers !
  • My commuter, which, to my unending shame, I'm still not commuting on.

Spesh Singlecross, 70" fixed, Shimano hub dynamo. I've subsequently changed the seatpost and saddle and sorted out that overlong cable to the rear brake.

Just done it's first winter- a testing one too- very happy with it.

I used this one in the snow, with a Schwalbe snow stud tyre upfront. The cheapy front wheel was on the Singlecross when I bought it.

I needed a bike to ride in all-weather conditions, solid, brakes in the wet, handles well but comfy, carries my luggage and short shopping trips and goes anywhere and looks great!

ok didn't manage that last bit as it's eye sore...just need a kickstand... ;O)

From the spares bin an old frame lying around, slx-lx bits and a rear carrier :O)

Weighs 13kg and I make sure it's loaded up so I get a quick workout on the way to work.
Stuck with 26 inch wheels for load carrying and quick acceleration when having to stop in traffic. Have some singletrack on the way but mainly roads for 8 miles one way.

Now that's a quality old bike, love the 'carbon effect' steelie forks!!!!!

Frame looks half decent - what is it?

It's just a hill. Get over it.

It's a 1980s Raleigh 531 very very light, a real pleasure to ride.

I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    Very happy indeed.
Rides like a top end road bike and the mudguards mean I can use it all year round and for clubruns. My first time on Shimano after 25 years and I didn't realise how good it is. Tyres are 100PSI which seems a bit odd but this helps with comfort. Got it on 0% finance from Formby cycles.

The Pig, my trusty commuting/utility hack is quite broken.
    2qvcg13.jpg

Fortunately I have a spare F&F lying around, so The Pig will be reborn. Amazingly the frame seems to be fine apart from a bent mech hanger.
