My username on c+ was Cab. I use the name 'cos its what people call me. Simple, I know, but it suits me to go by one name.
Over here for some reason I'm CABCP. I hate that. I don't want to be that.
I can find no posts by anyone else called Cab. So my name has been guzumped by someone who hasn't contributed, presumably from another board.
Simply put, that sucks. I'm not going to change my name, its my own name or the highway; I haven't had a clear answer to stating that over on the old c+ area. Just make it clear; can I have my own name back or is that it?
In the same vein, my username on C+ was Ru88ell, and I'm well known in cycling circles as Ru88ell - but since changeover I'm having to be Ru88ellcp.
Now there is a Ru88ell who used to post rarely in the MTB forum - but that's me too!
Can I please be Ru88ell with my C+ post count? You can then delete the Ru88ellcp account.
Thanks in advance.
Patrick those parts of the MTB forum you're talking about are as old as the C+ forum, in many respects they are actually tamer now than they were in the past. People in the bike industry likely to want to advertise there are more than aware of the content. And yes they might be a daunting place for advertisers, but the so was the C+ forum - we got more complaints about that than its MTB counterparts.

I apologise if this has already been suggested - my internet connection is dropping out so often tonight that I really cant face the struggle of reading all the earlier pages carefully!
I just wanted to observe that the forum index page is now quite long, and however you arrange it, some users are going to have to scroll down quite a way to reach theire favourite bits.
Is it possible to have some "shortcut buttons" across the top? The sort of thing you sometimes find on lengthy web pages where you click the button and the view jumps to the required section although you are still on the same page.
Just one button for each of the main areas that you have already differentiated. It would be a way to add a bit of convenience without excluding the rest of the cycling world. I certainly intend to forage about a bit, but it would certainly feel nice to be able to zap to my favourite areas.0 -
Finding a way of shortening the index is very near the top of our list of things to do. I will be talking about this to our developers tomorrow morning. The final destination we are aiming for though is a filterable forum.0

Who me wrote:Just having a think around this a bit but not much of the advertising on this forum is bike orientated and is now much broader than previously on the individual forums. Surely this means that the advertising is less targeted than before and probably less effective or shouldn't I say that too loud in case advertisers are watching :? ?
Well on the page I'm looking at the banner on the top is advertising the Trek Madone. The advertising on this site is more targetted, but we only launched last week...0 -

David,
I find that after I have logged in if I then click on Road (up towards the top left of the page) then follow the blue headings to the right and click on Forum. This will take me to the Road Forum (more or less the old C+) with all the other sections collapsed above it. Hope that helps .Colin N.

I'm thinking he means the recurring T3 on the right? Which is entirely understandable, given that T3 is published by Future.0 -

Mmm........let me guess about the complaints from the C+ forum. I suspect that these were about equally between:
1. Outraged middle aged middle class professionals complaining they had been disparaged in some way.
2. The fall out from the "Night of the Long Knives" when a moderator banned the likes of Fatbloke.
3. The person first banned as Toomey (albeit much reincarnated under a variety of names) complaining about his latest banning.0 -

No problem David. I`m not very computor literate and tend to use (IE) Back, Forward and Refresh buttons quite a fair bit as well.Colin N.

Is there any chance the forum part of the site can be altered??
heres a suggestion:
Front page of forum with all the mags individual forums, so readers can go into mbuk specific or whatmtb or cycling etc.
This way its all kept within bikeradar but readers keep the uniqueness of there previous forums
To keep us all tied together as it were howabout one user name for access to all forums as we have already that way the overall forum user base is still the same but we get access to only the bits we may want.
Just a thought...
Ive probably not explained myself clearly but im sure you get the idea0 -
Even with all other Forums collapsed there are 43 MTB forums to scroll through to get to WMB arms which is rediculous and incredibly off-putting. Why have "off topic", "Sandbox" and "WMB arms" all seperate when you could have a single off topic link with all three inside? Same goes for the 10 or so different types of riding forum.... single link with them all inside. This would shrink the front page of the forum a huge amount, instantly making it more useable. Other alternatives are to be able to select the forums you want to be shown on your logged in page.... for instance, I have no interest in downhill, freeride, trials and as such would opt to turn those off on my page, leaving me with only the selected forums I am interested in, creating a smaller, more usable, personalised forum in which I feel more at home and less confused. A brand new member who has never ridden a bike in anger before could be very intimidated and confused by the number of forums there are0

That kind of structure and filterability is an excellent idea, but doesn't seem to be trivial in this forum platform. Which doesn't mean we won't try and do it - we certainly will - just that it's not an overnight change.John Stevenson0 -
Many thanks for sorting my post count. The downside is that I can't troll the MTBers as a newbie.0

the astonishing thing is that it didn't get done from the off - given that you came perilously close to nicking the Bikereader name you might have at least copied the format.
And the typeface? Surely some mistake?0 -

Sometimes you get to the deadline and you have to go with what you have. In case you haven't gathered, none of us are exactly ecstatic about the situation either, but it's improving and will continue to do so.
The site name's similarity to Bikereader is a total coincidence - it derives from gamesradar.com, another Future website.
As for the typeface, if you're talking about it being Arial not Verdana that's my personal preference too. I've given up and am using Firefox + Stylish so I can make it look the way I want.John Stevenson0 -
After returning returning from holiday and hacking into the new site . Whats all the fuss about ? Its a forum on the internet . Nobody has died . The roof was still on the house when I got home . I am staying .Special interests and all that ...........bagpuss0

So many negative comments, but i think the forum is coming along not to bad at all. There were a few problems at the start but now the forum is improving (a little more could be done though- too many topics on the main page etc) but all in all well done.“Life is like riding a bicycle. Probably been mentioned before, I also posted this in my own thread, but I thought I'd put it in there too...
Merge wmb arms, mbuk sandbox and the roadies soapbox. No idea what call it, but it'd be a lively of the forum section, that's for sure.
Merge all the 'office' sections together too.
There's too many sections of this forum to scroll through, this'll help slim it down a little.I am free of all prejudice. I hate everyone equally ~ W. C. Fields0 -

I think it's a great idea. Not only will it make the place more lively, it'll help integrate the different disciplines together through banter, and who knows.. even friendships may be forged?I am free of all prejudice. I hate everyone equally ~ W. C. Fields0

I'm not sure if it is wise to point out that on the C+ forum there were quite a few of the MTB 'persuasion' (and a few 'crossdressers' too) and I don't recall any fighting (not over that anyway) .
Onwards and Upwards (err, Do I avter?).Colin N.

Has anything changed though apart from BBB code being turned back on again ?
