Linlithgow to holy isle must be getting on for 100 miles..0

Yeah, but we do things properly here at the Clarion. None of this 'doing it on the cheap' nonsense.0 -
OS 65 wrote:Near to or on the shortest night we plan to ride to Holy island and get the train back.
Setting off in the evening, stopping for last orders and then carrying on through the night hopefully getting to the coast as the sun comes up...nice.
Last year's ride was rained off and the year before I was due to do a different night time ride and that got rained off too!
So it might be better if the ride is done earlier, maybe in May?
By the way Andy, I'd stick to a turbo trainer rather than rollers. Rollers are tricky to ride on and limit the kind of training you can do.

Ill be riding to Berwick in the better weather.need some nice quiet roads though, you got any routes you could post up mate?0 -

My apologies. You know that I am not familiar with the subtleties of the English language. Still learning. Thrifty it is then. I'd still like to do it properly.0
-
Ok Tobias, deal! (what's the German equivalent for thrifty then?) We need to have a chat about what needs doing then, preferably before the AGM in a fortnight.
Matt, do you think it would be worth me speaking to Jimmy Harris as he used to organise events so may be able to give some useful advice? I spoke to him last Saturday and he's keen to meet up for a general blah anyway.0 -

Mrs P has kindly informed me that she is away for a girls(she's too old to be a girl ) weekend on the 28th and 29th March,so the 21st or 22nd would suit me.
She also said she told me about this before christmas(Aye right !!)
I have got the required batteries for the HRM and it is working OK.We just need to arrange delivery...

Hey Sparky, ok by me. No probs with the HRM. If you're at Bill's on Tuesday I'll see you then.
That's us narrowed it down to Saturday 21st or Sunday 22nd March.
Either day is fine for me.
Please post up your preference people!
Hi Andy,
Think the forecast for tomorrow is horrendous!!!!
I was hoping to get out on Sunday - apparently it will be drier although who knows!0 -
Wotcha Andy
I was planning to come out (first time since November but it depends on the weather.
I don't mind rain too much but if we get the 30mph wind the Met Office is forecasting, I might mount my turbo instead.0 -

Re. the etape recce. - I'm happy to go with the suggestion from Matt that we do the run pre-Easter and David has expressed an interest as long as he's not working that weekend.
So:
Pre-Easter and a weekend David isn't working is the plan so far. David is going to let us know what dates are available and we can put them up here and on the WLC web page so it's looking like late March/early April.

Hi there,
Great run today 8 bodies out including new recruit Greg from Grangemouth and Mandy my better half stoking the tandem, the others Tobias, Matty, Andy, Mike, Steve and Me. Went alot of back roads via the alps, and Philipstoun towards Blackness, Hopetoun estate Winchburgh and over the hills to the KWM. Myself and Mandy then went on a bit extra to Torphican, Westfield, Avonbridge, Caldercruix, Blachridge ,Armadale and home to Bathgate, had 58 miles when we got home about 13:40. Missed all the rain but the wind drained the legs a bit. Stopped at a shop in Westfield to get some more water, and a grop of about 20 cyclists went past at a terrific rate of knots. Managed to catch Stirling road club or similar on one of their jerseys.
See you all soon,

Sorry never made it over this morning.Headed out at 8 and did an hour locally due to it peeing down in Livingston.Should have made more effort as the weather turned out OK.
Here is some other info on some reliability trials that is on Stirling Bike Clubs site.

Missed todays run and will miss tomorrows aswell.. i got a last minute phone call to do a nightshift tonight..
Whilst at work tonight i decided to split the chain and remove it for a propper clean and lube.. and found 2 cracked links  Perhaps its just as well I am not doing any proper cycling this weekend.I will have to take it easy on the hills on the way home in the morning.Wish me luck.
I will have to go to halfords to get a chain tomorrow. I dont know anywhere else that will be open on a sunday. Heres hoping that they have something suitable. Going by there website they have SRAM chains . They are shimano compatable they? Its a 9speed if that makes a difference.
Andy0 -
Bill, is there any spaces at the Hanger this Tuesday. If so can you book me in. Been doing to many slow miles and would like to step it up a notch or six.
Cheers David0 -

Bill
Won't be able to make it along to Hanger on Tuesday - nothing to do with teh music choice last week, honest
Mike0 -
Andy, good to see the tandem getting a run on Saturday with you and Mandy - sorry I missed that! I remember chatting to you and your better half at the xmas club night, hopefully we'll meet up on the road at some point.
Other Andy (richara3) - SRAM chain will be fine with Shimano mechs, etc.
Went out yesterday on the fixie. Got caught in the 'blizzard' in Glasgow so headed home. All in around 25 to 30 miles and soaked through but not a bad run actually.
Legs a bit sore today though - need to put in some more miles on the fixed I reckon!
Hopefully make it tomorrow at the Hanger Bill - work permitting. Will confirm as soon as possible.
Cheers,
Grant0 -
58 miles? Respect Andymandy!
After my embarrassing performance on Saturday, which I put down to bonking (first time in a long time), I bought some new porridge oates to make sure this won't happen again .0 -
