Intersted in principle but going at Easter will clash with the NC Easter Meet.

Yeah I'm cycling down to the Easter Meet in Manchester with Jez so its out for me too, My preference would be before so I can get some mile in for my my 240 mile epic!

By the way, If you are heading down to the Clarion's Easter Meet (which I can't recommend enough) now is the time to book your place so that they have an idea of numbers

    Cheers

  • Talking about Easter, has anything been planned (accommodation, route, etc.) yet?

I am tempted to come along (especially since we are expecting a family visit) but I am a bit concerned about the cost aspect. Usually not a problem but I have to go to Aberdeen for two weeks in May, which will cost me an arm and a leg.

Ok, I'll check the Clarion website.

Re. the etape recce. - I'm happy to go with the suggestion from Matt that we do the run pre-Easter and David has expressed an interest as long as he's not working that weekend.

    So:

Pre-Easter and a weekend David isn't working is the plan so far. David is going to let us know what dates are available and we can put them up here and on the WLC web page so it's looking like late March/early April.

Interested parties so far are: -

    Moi
    Malcolm
    David
    Foz (partial run)
    Matt

    don't think i've missed anyone!

Yes me and Jez have booked hotels, one near Lockerbie and the other near Kendal. They aren't as cheap as hostels but they aren't too expensive either, cheaper than travel lodges and they look kinda nice too! Bill they might suit your high standards!

    www.sundialguesthousekendal.co.uk/

We're setting off on Wednesday 8th. It would be great to have you along El, plus anyone else who is interested
Alternatively you could take the train and I'd give you a lift back in the car
We're picking up a couple of guys in Lancaster on the last day
Easter meet dates : Friday 10th-Monday 13th April

To make it a bit more difficult, I'd like to organise a liability trial in March, possible on the 10th or 17th. With a bit of help this could be brought forward, though. Are you still up for it Grant?

    I'm up for it
  • Good man; I didn't expect anything else.

I'll give it a bit of thought and we continue this discussion offline or, even better, over a pint.

    morning all,

I phoned my work today and here are my days off

Saturday the 7th, 8th, 14th and 15th of March then from 16th March to Saturday 4th April I am annual leave so would be happy to do the run on any of those days.

Along with 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th of April but I appreciate that these dates would be to late. I would be quite happy doing the full distance if others want to do the same.

Was also thinking of maybe organising a charity run to raise the profile of the club if anyone would be interested in that. I would be happy to send letters out to locus businesses within our area asking for their donations/support if others would be interested.

Possibly John O'Groats to Linlithgow in as short a time possible whilst staying as a group.

    Cheers David

Good idea on the charity run, that might be a good idea. We could do it non stop on the longest day, relay format or something, just ideas ???
  • Could we register the WLC as a charity?

Top idea! Lets talk about the charity run at the AGM. We could turn our all night ride to Holy Island into a charty ride

Tobias, how about Sunday 8th March for the reliability?

Maybe 21st/22nd or 28th/29th March for the recce?

How do people feel about these dates?

Matt, when is the Northumberland run?
  • 8 March is a good as any date. Reliability trials are usually earlier in the year but we need some time to plan it.

Ok - 8th it is! (there are 4 run locally in Feb anyway so if we do ours on 8th it may attract other riders - or is this an insurance issue?)

How about the President's run route to Biggar?
  • I'd like to attract other riders and I can't see a problem if we have a disclaimer saying that we can't be held responsible for any problems.

I have had a look at the bikely routes and I think we need, as is customary, a shorter (50ish km) and a longer (100km) route for people to have a choice. Plus, route sheets, feeding stops and a start venue (a school, village hall, your house, or similar).

Can I be an arse and suggest the 15th instead of the 8th?

It'll give an extra week to get things organised :D

(plus i am doing the Knockhill Mountain 25TT on the 8th   )

    Hi El
Not sure about non members, a club run is different, but an organised, timed event MIGHT need to classified as an 'open event' to meet our insurance requirements. In which case a qualified time keeper would be a minimum and it would also cost £10 to register and the usual authorities notified.

If its club confined no problem.

    I'll check with the SCU

Trouble with feeding stops, etc. and an event HQ is that we'd need to charge an entry fee and have much more to organise and more red tape, etc.

The SBC, FBC and Stirling Tri ones just start from an agreed point and there are no feeding stops. The route is up on their web pages and that's it.

Apparently FBC take a small donation to a cancer charity in memory of one of their former members who suffered with it.

Don't get me wrong - if you are up for the challenge of organising something more formal then I shall be more than happy to wade in and do whatever is necessary to help out but I think we should start soon!

I will see how my cycling progresses over the next couple of months before I sign up for these longer jaunts. Judging by the overtime levels at work I cant see that I will be getting in many miles other than my commute. At least I wont be dragging the speed down if I aint there.

Whats this night run that was mentioned? Sounds good..

Near to or on the shortest night we plan to ride to Holy island and get the train back.
Setting off in the evening, stopping for last orders and then carrying on through the night hopefully getting to the coast as the sun comes up...nice.

Last year's ride was rained off and the year before I was due to do a different night time ride and that got rained off too!

So it might be better if the ride is done earlier, maybe in May?

By the way Andy, I'd stick to a turbo trainer rather than rollers. Rollers are tricky to ride on and limit the kind of training you can do.

Cheers for the roller advice Matt.. They do look like more 'fun' though..

My mate has an unused turbo gathering dust .I will borrow that before commiting. I may see you all at the hanger yet.
