See you tonight.

Website looks fantastic, good quality job. I'll look into getting the club on the councils list of local leisure/ sporting clubs etc. I am sure I have the forms for it somewhere.

cheers for the tip Grant, Its about 56 miles from my house..I may have to do it mid week so it fits in with my shifts and its likely to be a case of getting up in the morning and if its a nice day just heading out,.. I had kind of chosen to go from Kilsyth in an anticlockwise direction so if thats the hard way then so be it.
Andy0 -
Excellent website by the way Matt..Now where did I put that membership form
Andy0 -
Cheers fellas, nice one getting the site on the council list Mamore!
Andy - the linlithgow-crow road-tack-linlithgow is an 85 miler, knock 5 off for you in Polmont. its a tough days ride so give your self plenty of time. There is a decent garden centre cafe just after condorat which will be a welcome break on the way back, signposted from the road
This is the route I use:

Great workout last night at the hanger,5 of us in total, we done the Carmichael TT training DVD which was quite intense. I am going to get the hill climb version of the same and we can do that sometime as well. Still not as good as my session though
Epo,
The usual time and the usual place mate, see you around 7.15.
Rgds, Bill0 -
Never mind all that Bill, just tell us about the music :!:
David, thanks for the e-mail - I've sent you a PM in response.

No painful techno last night mate just the DVD :roll:0

Good stuff!
I may get one of those Carmichael DVDs - I bought the CTS/Lance Armstrong Performance book over the holidays and it's very good.0 -

Can I suggest anyone creating routes on bikely uses the words 'West Lothian Clarion' somewhere in the title or description so we can start to build a record of club runs that we have done or that anyone would like to propose for a future Saturday or Sunday run. If WLC is in the title it'll be easier to keep track of.
Also, it would be good if people could maybe suggest even one run they'd like to do as a Sunday run. As Matt posted earlier about routes South of the M8, i'd like to try some in this area but don't know the roads at all or what would make up good routes so it would be good if people who are more familiar with certain areas maybe created some on bikely so we have a bit of variety?
Just a thought - I'm bored at work!0 -

I could put some routes together on Bikely with a few suggestions for your weekend runs in summer...runs maybe I have did myself and think are very worthwhile...but you would maybe have to travel a hour (or even more)or so to start with on some of them...I take it you mean runs in Scotland?....any routes for the Lakes/Pennines/York Dales/NY Moors/Wales would also not be a problem0 -
Hi Ritchie,
Whatever you prefer.
Matt has created a link to bikely on the snazzy new website he created so it would be good to fill it with some classic routes, as well as more local stuff I suppose.
P.S. are you a member of the Clarion like your brother? He's certainly put a marker down by winning the ride of last year plus winning the boxing day 10!
Cheers,

Ive already an account with Bikely so what I'll do over the next wee while is put them under my name 'RICHYBOY'...And on each description I'll start with WLC....I'll also try and provide driving distance/time to the start of each route from Linlithgow...and then you can simply search for my routes and take your pick for whatever you fancy doing....no probs.
I'll try and create a few options for the same areas so that you can choose anything between a 50-100miler for that particular area...
I'm not a member of the Clarion, Ive spoken with a few of the lads about it and its not really my thing.....however I've watched from the very start how it has grown and its been hugely successfull and is to be highly praised for its now huge popularity...takes a lot of effort and passion to make these ventures work so its been great to sit and watch.
However I know a lot of real nice fellas from the Clarion and its no probs to maybe help where I can...and if you fancy nice traffic free scenic routes then I can heartliy recommend a good few....0 -

Hey Ritchie "the route master"
Good to hear from you. Thanks for adding your routes to BIkely the search I linked to from the website uses "Linlithgow" as the key word. maybe you could get that word in the description somewhere so you routes would get linked to from the site as well

Hi Matt....thats no probs at all mate...I'll put Linlithgow in all related folders...probably confuse the hell out of other readers right enough...they will check the route with Linlithgow in the heading and end up looking at a map for the Ochils or the Lammermuirs and so on:D ...
In the summer I'm heading to a real scary looking place...I was supposed to do it last year...I'm gonna do a full circuit of the entire Kintyre Pininsula...it looks on paper the toughest run Scotland could offer....Ive never seen so many steep climbs crammed into one road...it looks awful...its a 100mile long route....and into the bargain exactly half way round Im taking a wee detour down to the lighthouse on the pinnacle of the pininsula...and having a snack down there...then its the same road climb back out...no ordinary road...its the steepest Average 2Km climb in the UK at 16% avg...it climbs 20meters more than Hardknott in the same distance  ...dont know if it will be as tough buts its certainly not going to be easy. Reckon this route will offer a cracking challenge, incredible scenery and will be a fearsome memory....if the Clarion fancies it as a super summer day out then it would be nice to team up for a shocker...0 -
"scary", "shocker" "toughest run" "awful" "steepest 2km in UK"
Well, seeing as you put it like that.........
...........count me in0 -
Hey folks
The blog has been updated with some important club news if you want to order jerseys, go on some rides or have an extra session at the Hanger of Anger see link:
http://westlothianclarion.blogspot.com/0 -
I know I'm not a club member (yet!) and I've not seen the other options but I do think the club jersey on the site looks pretty good.
re: the forum thing, my vote would be for a dedicated forum for the club. It at least makes keeping track of different discussions easier. Back in Lancaster we didn't have much success with getting people interested but I'm guessing seeing as you lot are already pretty forum literate it should work.
Also re: the 'getting the club noticed' thing I agree that getting on the council listings would be a good start and assuming you're SCU affiliated I guess you'll be get your name on their site. Do you have a regular presence in the local newspaper? Since my dad (Lancaster cycling Club President) took over cycling column in the sports section for our local paper down in Lancaster we've found that to be a great way of raising the profile of cycling as a whole and getting new members. It's a good start even if it's just writing about your club runs and other activities during the winter then more racing during the summer.
Other than that bike shops (even as far as the big shops Edinburgh maybe?) and word of mouth are probably the way to go.

You can say that again! Been down that road a couple of times(used to work for BillR1) to the MOD tower pretty good view from there of Rathlin Island and the Antrim Coast. It's a single track road with some tight bends pretty busy as well iirc.0 -

85 MILES !!!!!!!!!
This is the shorter route I was thinking of.
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/ca ... om-polmont
Getting to and from Kilsyth with the least hassle / distance as possible. Then doing the loop in my own good time with a good long cake stop somewhere. More of a day out than a training thing. I think the A-803 may be a busr road but the traffic doesnt bother me , till it hits me atleast!
I was filling out the membership form today ... I assume in the' section ' bit I write ' west lothian' and what goes in the ' first claim member' and 'whats your first claim cycling club' part of the form...? ? Ive probably forgotten a few other things but i am at work now and have left the form in the house! EDIT.... downloaded the form from the website...Handy that!
Andy0 -
Ah I see, yes, 55 is much more manageable!
Yes, section is West Lothian, First claim, just tick, 2nd claim is when you are a member of more than one club because you have to specify which one you'll be racing with for the season - you race with your first claim club

Ronnie Thomson has planned a few mid-week rides and is looking for some company.
Ronnie said "I would like to propose a regular planned set of rides for members who can get out for a ride during the week in the daylight. I've listed the rides I will use over the next 2 Months. If club members can join in at a point in the route I would be grateful for the company."
Nip over to the blog to take a look at the details...
