Better than most Grant, better than most.
Mind you, it's tempting not to learn a second language when the whole world (well, most of it) speaks English.

Anyone up for steady (slowish) run Monday or Tuesday of this week.
I can cycle to Linlithgow to meet up.
Cheers David0 -
Anyone out on Saturday and Sunday?
Couldn't make it - loads to do at home
OS 650 -
Out on ma tod again on Saturday.
Made the most of the good weather and delayed xmas shopping until Sunday.
Did a 10 mile TT effort from Kilsyth to Longcroft out the A803 and back.
Very disappointed with the time - 34 mins 1 sec.
Was expecting to manage 30 minutes-ish!
Perhaps may have to revise my target for Boxing Day0 -
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Ki ... 10-mile-TT
Here is the route of my 10 - I found it hard to get into a rhythm - lots of little rises and never quite felt like I was ever in the correct gear.
I'm expecting to beat this time of 34 minutes on boxing day as looking at the Kirkliston 10 route on bikely it has the same amount of climbing on it however it's more gradual so hopefully I can get pace myself better however I'd be very surprised if I
beat 30 minutes this time.
Looking forward to it mind you - just need to go easy on the cakes on Xmas day :!:0 -

Bill has asked me to post to say the Hanger of Anger will be out of action until the 6th Jan when the sessions will begin again. So no session on the 23rd
Have a good holiday
OS 650 -
I only have access to t'internet at work and this is my last day until 5th Jan so all the best to everyone over the holidays - hopefully I'll see a few faces out on Boxing Day!
P.S. I'm also heading out on Sunday 28th Dec, albeit a little bit later passing the Cross at 9.20am. I'm going on a nice steady ride with my pal who has just bought a road bike and is recovering from a bad knee injury so if anyone fancies a slower Sunday ride we'll be heading out to Queensferry, over the bridge and back via Kincardine and Skinflats - probably 11-12mph average. Still a good distance but a nice relaxed pace!
P.P.S.!!
Don't forget Friday 2nd of January for the Alpine Challenge/Bill's Magical Mystery Tour which kicks off at 11am on 2nd Jan at Linlithgow Sports Centre. Rumour has it every hill in West Lothian will be on the itinerary
Hope to see a few faces out on the road!!

Hey! How did the boxing day '10' go this morning? Hope the weather was as good up there as it was for our '10' down here in Lancaster!
M@0 -
It was almost a perfect day for a race - A bit chilly but no ice and no wind. Brian Bernard won the '10' with a time of 28.12, Bob Simpson came second with 31.57 narrowly piping Sparky by 30 seconds to third place. Grantus came in fourth with a time of 34.24 but he rode out to the event and back.
There were even spectators watching the race! Thanks to Allan and Mike for help pushing off and marshalling.
So thats our first event over and done with - roll on next year when we start the weekly 10s in May.
See you out over the weekend
OS 650 -
sorry to have missed the TT this morning had a late night last night and was too knacked when the alarm woke me this morning, just couldnt bring myself to go out on the bike today. been out plenty this last two weeks tho so alls well0
-
Glad the '10' went well. I did a 28:15 for 2nd place on the Caton road course down here in Lancaster this morning. The winner of our event did a 25:14 - ridiculously fast for this time of year!!!
Looking forward to getting out and joining you guys for evening '10's come springtime!
M@0 -
Glad it was a good day for the 10. I would have been 10 mins behind you all had I been out.!
Any one going to KWM tomorrow for 9am?
May see you there

Anyone up for runs Monday-Friday of next week.
Cheers David0 -
I'm out 9.00am tomorrow at the Cross in Linlithgow. From what people have said It sounds like there will be a few people out. Any Saturday riders fancy coming along? I'm only going for a short one so will turn back before the other riders...
OS 650 -
Six of us were out today (Saturday) - Stevie (good to see ya again!) Sparky, Bill, Matt, Jim and newbie Andy from Brightons.
It was pretty darn cold, Water bottles froze and gloves didn't work (allthough Myself and JIm were feeling a liitle smug with our fingers nice and cosy in £5 Aldi gloves )
Bill took us on a great new route down to Bathgate, Armadale and round the back to Avon bridge. I reckon we should test some more routes out over the Blackburn, Fauldhouse, forth areas
Sparky Mark destroyed the bunch with a burst of speed at the Westfield 30 sign. Roads were frosty and icy in places but noone came a cropper.
I was impressed with stevies fitness after such a long layoff and Andy ain't as slow as he suggests...

He is slower  I dont think you saw the nick of me on the steep bit somewhere before avon bridge..I hid it well but I swear I could have spewed., Ive been hobbling around like a really old man today , and ts taken till now to warm up again...
It was good today, a fair bit faster than the last time i was out, although I only covered 20 odd miles I can certainly feel it.
I liked your fixed btw. Ive got a 1950 something claude buttler that was my dads. He rode it as a fixed and I want to rebuild it in a similar style to how I remember it as a kid. I may need to pick your brains a bit .
I hope to be out tomorrow so may see some of you then. It was good to meet new faces...Thanks

Sorry, should have mentioned that I would not be able to start until 1100hrs as I finish at 0700hrs that morning and would sleep for a few hours before I sneek out.
Maybe see some of you mid week
David0 -
Glad to hear the time trial went well, I have not been out on my bike mutch recently due to some technical issues (the deraillieur mounting bolt sheared taking it and the chain into the rear wheel) I have got all the bits to repair the bike now and should be good for the weekend but I feel like a slug, 2 weeks of virtually no exercise and all the extras of this time of year are taking a toll. I'll be looking to do some slow miles come saturday to see what the damage has been to me and check the bike out thouroughly.
Thanks to Stevie at Frame's Wheels and Gears in Whitburn for fixing me up with the parts I wrecked.0 -
I enjoyed the run on sunday. All 50 odd miles of it , which for me is the farthest Ive ever cycled in one go. I was glad there was no one around to see me toil up the quarry brae to my house though
I certainly feel that I am getting fitter ( slowly) and am getting used to being on the bike. And the encouragment and little tips from you guys makes it all that bit easier, and thanks for that.
One day I wont be hiding in the pack and will take a turn at the front, till then though thanks for keeping the wind off me and for dragging me along..
I wont be out on the 2nd as I am dayshift ( Honest ). but will out again on the 10th and 11th.
Till then, Have a good new year everyone and thanks for giving me a gentle introduction to road cycling.
Andy0 -
I wont make the 2nd either as I am working(new years day as well). Hope you have good tour of the Bathgate Hills.Brian B.0

With all this hard frost it won't be long until I forget how to go a bike
Been out three of the last four days hillwalking though. Today was a full cloud inversion with a ceiling of about 700 meters over the Highlands, a new fall of fresh snow and hardly a breath of wind. Good to have a change of scene from the same old bumpy black tarmac of Slammanan
Have a great New Year and keep the fire burning any way you can through January :!:0 -

I got out for an hour and a half Sunday, sticking to the A89 between armadale and hillend loch to avoid ice....not as bad as it sounds i dont mind that road it is plenty wide
the way the cold weather is looking i won't be getting out anytime soon...certainly staying away from back roads and hills
hope everyone has a happy new year0
