We would welcome the company. Paul and I intend to meet at the Bridge Inn at Linlithgow at 9am. Weather supposed to be 5C and sunny. Don't worry about the pace we are just happy to put the miles in during the winter so will be taking it easy anyway.

    See you then

    Cheers David

7 of us out on an overcast and then wet and cold Saturday. Fathead, Bill, me, Sparky, Andy, John and Peter headed off to South Queensferry at a brisk pace. Sparky and Bill had a very close sprint at the Fouchelsdean 30 with Sparky edging it at the line, it took him a good few miles to recover!

The group stayed together well and the tough fell runners (Andy and John) showed their strength on a couple of climbs. Fathead's 3-weeks off has done him no harm powering away from Matt at the Kirkliston 30 on the way home.

We headed back into the Alpes where we went our separate ways we must have ridden about 40-odd miles.

We had a good bit of banter on the ride and I guess many of us wouldn't have gone out in poor weather like this if it wasn't for the company.

Did anyone make it out on Sunday?

Hey Folks - for one reason or another I didn't manage to get out the house in time to get up to KWM for 9. Sounds as though you all had a good run. I headed out on my own to the west out past (you guessed it) Slamannan and back for a round journet of just under 40 miles. Came back over the Bathgate Alps on the last stretch as punishment for not getting my act together and getting out the house in time - jings my legs were sore. Good to be on the bike though.

Will be at the Hanger of Anger on Tuesday.

Hey Sparky - I made the mistake of sprinting for a 30 the other week then spent the rest of the ride well out the back!

I've learnt my lesson and won't be indulging in such foolhardy escapades from now on

I went out on my tod on Saturday.

Did Cumbernauld down to Lennoxtown, Crow Road to Fintry, over the hill to Kippen then along the Kippen flats to Cambusbarron. From there it was up the Polmaise Road to the Shielbrae cottage then along past North Third to Carron Bridge and finally over the Tak to Kilsyth and home.

50 hilly miles but only managed 13.4mph average. Am fine on the gently rolling stuff but on the long sustained climbs I'm absolutely ruined. Had to stop at the car park half-way up Crow Road as I felt a wee chunder coming on

Still, was good to get out and not worry about ice. That climb up from Cambusbarron to Carron Bridge is deceptively hard

I shall attend the Hanger of Angryness tomorrow to see what it's all about :!:

Sparky - Your sprint with Bill was great to watch - you must've gone for it with 300meters to go, it was great to see Bill having a go, you both had me and Fathead cheering behind you - Better than Cav if you ask me!

Sick bucket is available at the hanger and tomorrow is going to be the tough work out with plenty of pyramids and out the seat stuff to keep everyone happy
Had a good run on Saturday, decent pace with plenty of hill attacks to keep everyone interested and the notorious Faucheldean 30 which Mark beat me on by a spokes width and I will never forget the giant apperition appearing on my right just at the sign

Look forward to a good turn out tomorrow at the hanger and bring your sick bags !!!!

I'm a bit tougher these days T

    Bill

Can we have a role call for the hanger tomorrow night?
  • Stukie - It was me and Sparky that you met that day. We turned off to go through Torphicen after meeting yourself on the Westfield road. I too will be getting out over the festive period although I have not been out with the Clarion lately because I have been working mega hours.

The weather that day we met you was supberb - we wont get that for another 5 months or so.

    Have a good xmas.

When you remember the bikes but not the names does that prove that you're a proper cyclist or that you've got serious social problems :?: , haven't quite decided on that.

You're right about the weather though. Tried on my serious winter cycling gear for the first time this year on Saturday, you know what the waist on my bibtights seems to have shrunk but the area around the thighs seems to have stretched. Wonder how that could have happened :D .

I tried to make it out to the run on Saturday but at 830 it was pitch black and pouring down in G'Mouth so the christmas shopping got done instead.

    Hey Stukie

Let us know if you are coming out and we could meet you nearer grangemouth so you don't have to ride all the way in the dark.

Sounds likek you're a proper cyclist to me

I'll be up at the Hanger but I'll probably take it easy...

EPO, It will be a relatively easy pace and about 30-40 miles due to the turbo work out the night before, for me anyway.
Sparky, no probs, see you Wednesday.
Fatheed, see you if it's dry.

  • Sorry for this note taking up so much space. This is a note I have just received from the organiser of the Trossachs Ton so I thought I would post it to generate some interest from club members.

Dave Brailsford, is the man behind the British Teams cycling successes at the Beijing Olympics. As Performance Director with British Cycling he believes we should all strive for the gold standard in whatever we do. Supporting the charity, Action Medical Research, he acknowledges the passion and hard work that is put into organising a challenging cycling programme for both new and experienced cyclists

The new ride in Scotland is the Trossachs Ton. A 100 mile circular route out of Stirling which has been enthusiastically put together by experienced local cyclists to make this the ‘must do’ cycle event in Scotland next year. Everything you could want; castles, lochs, glens and oh those hills!

Save the date – Sunday 21st June or register now at www.action.org.uk/trossachs_ton

The entry fee of £25 covers the costs of staging the ride. We also ask you to raise a minimum sponsorship of a further £25 to support the work of this charity.

Action Medical Research continues to have a significant impact on thousands of children and their families affected by disease and disability. Raising as much as you can will help us to find ways to prevent life threatening infections, such as meningitis and pneumonia, develop new treatments to improve the quality of life for children with muscular dystrophy or cerebral palsy and tackle rare and devastating conditions for which currently there is no cure. To make life easy you can set up an online sponsorship when you register. Fitness programme and training schedules provided.
