If it was the driver's fault and you have statements to prove it then you should push for compensation. Especially if the bikes had it, and you've obviously been injured. Speaking to a cyclist the other week who has been knocked off three times and received compensation everytime, each incident he suffered had a similiar outcome to yours (bruises, cuts and a damaged bike), he's now buying a Colnago CLX (œ3000) with the compensation.

I don't know the ins and outs but you should certainly get legal advice, from the CTC or your own lawyer. Perhaps take some pictures of the injuries sustained and the damage to the bike.

Apart from that, I hope you get better soon.

Going to get legal advice... Demongrinder in Know How has offered to give me the name of the firm he used and I'm now a member of the LCC so may seek their advice too

    Thanks

stuart: that sucks - i know we both got our bikes at the same time, and i keep meanign to come out riding with you. anyway, the guy admitted responsiblity, was very sorry, etc. be as philosophical as you can in this situation, and follow DG's advice. i hope it works out.

The police were great. They got me to calm down by leaving to my own devices while they dealt with the driver. I just sat there thanking my lucky stars it was nothing worse than bumps and bruises.

We'll get out this summer fella... I'm raring to get going, but as this little part of the thread started on saturday, got studying to do until end of May

How fast is a brisk pace? I am likely to be up for it - I know I am the most unreliable person when it comes to these rides, I have said yes twice, and failed twice, but domestic duties have a habit of scuppering me.

I would look to go round 100k in 25kph so would be able to up that a bit for a 40 to 50 and 6 / 7am is my ideal start time......and I don't forsee any issues this weekend!

Hey guys. I'm based in Epping and would definitely be up for a local ride in the coming weeks. I work Sundays but Saturdays would be awesome if any of you could do it.

    Check my bands page:

About 17.5mph average, 50/60/70/80 miles? How does that sound to you?

Btw, we're doing our demo on Friday so it'll all be updated. The stuff on myspace is our singer Marina's demos before we even met her, but thanks for listening anyway man.

You'd drop me quite quickly with that kind of average... I've not ridden for three weeks now, since getting knocked by a car, and before that I wasn't able to maintain that average for 50 miles.

Still got sore shoulders and my right knee at the mo' waiting for an MRI scan.

Hope to get back in the saddle soon and if you fancy a slower ride out will be glad of the company

Simon Johnson and Jonathan R are usually on this thread and their good for those kind of averages

    Thanks

Maybe when I said 17.5 that's a bit steep. I just did a 60 mile ride with a 17mph average but the whole second half of the ride was into a headwind, it ruined me on the last 10 miles. I was crawling along. We'll have to organise something soon.

Just done another run with a group that starts at the Two Wheels Good cycle shop in Crouch end. If anybody is wanting a good Sunday group workout this ride might be worth trying. Av speeds can range from 17 - 19mph, depending on the distance. If the speed is on the higher side, the group might split and reform at places. There is no set route but the rides I have been with, have gone towards Barnet, Broxborne, Epping and back to Crouch End. The people are nice, with numbers ranging from 8 - 12.

Stuart, how is everything going, is your knee getting better and what's happening with your bike?

Simon, how is everything with you, have you taken your exams yet and are you going to be doing the above ride soon.

    Hello Jonathan,

Hope you're well. I've got my first exam tomorrow, and then one on the 1st of June, after that it's all over. I've been doing the 30 mile route usually on a Sunday but I've been setting off at 5.45am! It's quite nice actually, no traffic at all. Did 66km this morning, averaged 29km/h so I'm keeping my fitness up and will definitely be joinng you once these exams are over.

Have you been out with them every week? Are you on the new bike yet?

Today was the forth time. I will be doing it again next week but not the week after, as I will be doing the So you think Essex is flat sportive (3 June). If your interested I think their still taking entries.
I have been enjoying the new bike for two weeks now, although I had to make some changes to the gearing, which was ok because the LBS did not charge to swap some parts.

So good luck with your exams.

I'd like to enter but their website is not functioning properly, can you tell me where it starts and at what time. If it's not local I'll need to get the train there (on a Sunday!).

    Thanks.

Yes as far as I could make out looking at the map on the organisers (Kilotogo) website, which was not easy, because it has been purposely degraded. Why? I have no idea.

I think I'm going to enter, do you think it's feasible to use the tube from Leyton to Epping, then cycle from there?

As far as I can tell cycles are allowed on the tube (Central Line) from Leyton to Epping. I would cycle there but that'd probably be too much on top of 105 miles.

The start is in Epping, so that should be ok. Also if you were to cycle from home, that would put 20 miles on to your distance for the day.
I don't know if you can take your bike on the tube. If you cannot, I could give you a lift since I will be driving to the start.

    Hi Guys,

I believe the rule is that you can only take your bike on stretches of the tube where there is no escalator access. This would (should) mean that Leyton to Epping is possible.
