Ok then, Saturday 3 March, 8.30am start. In Loughton. Where? Is the Odeon cinema forecourt ok? Or is there a bike friendly cafe?
Thanks

Can I be a control freak?
And suggest that you don't follow that route on the way out? Just because at 11 miles that roundabout is a bit nasty - although it may be safer in numbers.
A better way would be to go through Epping and then bear right through North Weald Bassett then go straight across the roundabout at Tylers Green and head up the country lanes round there.
On your loop back in you can come in via Moreton, Bobbingworth and Toot Hill and then up into Epping or Theydon Bois
It means you will miss out the A414 and a roundabout with exits onto Motorway and dual carriageway.

This is the final suggetion as I understand. W2B, you able to reprogramme gmap to account for your cycle friendly amendments?
Thanks

It is not hard to follow on the way out or back. It will help if sopmeone has been out that way before though.
Near Matching Green there is a road called Watery Lane.
If any of you really love your bikes, and it has been raining recently it can be a good idea to avoid that!
But then it can also be good fun......
Gmaps stopped working at the end of the route so the final run in is about 3 miles short. 45 in total.
You never know I might come and join you! Negotations are ongoing![;)][:D]0 -
that looks great. i also suggest we go up through high beech as a minor detour because it's a bit more scenic than the big long road.
am also tempted by "faggoters lane" but not for any mature reasons.

ps: am looking forward to the section on the M11!

would strongly suggest the detour to HB cos then I could ride up from the Abbey and join up. :-D i know the areas out to toot hill, abridge etc very well so most of that route would be very familiar to me.

If this is the road I think you mean, Woodford, we went along it a couple of weeks back when it had been raining heavily over the preceeding couple of days. It was flooded, but undeterred we decided to proceed. After about half a mile the water was higher than my bottom bracket. The last 10 miles or so were not a pleasant experience what with seriously sodden feet!

The M11 is great. If you manage to slot in behind a lorry or a coach, you'll hit 70 mph with no problems.0

i have band practices on a saturday morning, usually at 11. often they're every other one, but have one for the next two weeks. i can do this sunday, but not saturday. the weekend after that i am away, so it's the 18th march - that's the next time i'm available.
or afternoons, which i don't like, you can't beat cycling in the morning.

Stuart,
Hi,, I am away on the weekend of the 3/4th March, but will be up for future weekends. As to routes, well woodford2barbican has good ones, I also like to head out to Roydon via Epping Green, then from there out to the Hadhams, where I turn right towards Green Tye, cut across Sabridgeworth to Hatfield Heath, then back to Ongar via Matching Green. I then head for Navestock then onto Stapleford Abbots and back to Loughton.
I used this ride when training for the Etape, I think it is about 60 miles.
It would be great if we could get a ride up, as we have tried before, but it just never seems to happen. A friend of mine owns a bike shop in Buckhurst Hill and I mentioned to him about getting a ride going from there. Let me know what you all think.

Peejay, great post with that sportive, can't believe it's on my door step. Maybe if we get the rides going we could all do this.

I am away this week for the ride, so please let me know for the future, also might be a good idea if you post the distance and average speed, so that we all get a good idea what we are letting ourselves in for.

The only thing that could stop me is this man flu I've got - currently feel like someone has kicked me in the kidneys.
I think we're saying Woodford Odeon for the meet at say 8am as that is right at the beginning of the revised 40 odd mile loop.
Sods law I feel this rotten - hopefully get better
Thanks
