The first weigh-in will be March 4th, can you send me your weights either on the 3rd or 4th? The list should be completed and on this thread by 4 pm Sunday (Bangkok time) which will be 7am in the UK.

A great thread, my BMI was 41.9 before I took up cycling now its just over 26. There is a weight loss diary on my site that some of you may want to look at. I also log rides and exercise.
If someone told me I'd loose 6 stone in less than a year I'd have laughed in their face. Good look.

No, the first few weeks are the easy ones! The difficult week is about week four, when the initial keenness has worn off.

    I speak from bitter experience!

I was on holiday last week, so put on about four pounds. A pound or so has gone again now.

Over the last five or so years I've lost about three stone, including over half a stone so far this year. But it's been very fit- and start-y. I'm hoping that this public humiliation is what I need to get down to my target weight. The last time I succesfully lost weight was a big sponsored effort at work, including inviting people to bet on my final weight. I didn't tell them my starting weight. They all, without exception, guessed about 2 - 4 stone too light.

What we think is hideous fatness probably looks to other people like moderate overweight, especially since we're likely to be generally reasonably fit.</font id="size2">

I can't weigh myself at home as the scales only go up to 20 stone so I have been using the coin-op scales and on Sunday I had a big shock! We went to Ayudthaya on our monthly visit to the family monk. The mother-in-law won't do anything without consulting him! We stopped a petrol station and the scales were there so I thought I would weigh myself. According to the scales, I have put on 30lbs in about a week! I'm looking forward to when I weigh less than 20 stone so that I can use my scales.
I haven't been able to get out much or even on the I-Magic but I did do a nice 15 mile circuit today. The traffic was not too bad, the temperature was in the mid-eighties and hardly a breath of wind.

Have managed to lose about 4lb since we started and have finally got out on the roads, managing 3 rides of around 25 miles each and a few low intensity fat burning session on the turbo trainer.

Have also with an (unplanned) alternative motivational technique ... in their sale I bought a blue giro d'italia jersey from Prendas (very nice, not too flash / garish) and went for the size based on my chest size (XXL). Hmmm, chest fits - tummy doesn't! [:I] Ok, put that one in the cupboard for when I'm skinny and ordered a Ileas Balearas French champions jersey from ProBikeKit (again discounted) and went for 3XL. Hmm, same problem! [:0] So I now have two very nice jerseys - fortunately that I haven't paid too much for! - that I can't fit into!

It's not my fault I'm slow - I'm underpowered for my weight!

Not managed to lose any weight yet and have only done one 20 mile ride.

I get all my bike clothing from Decathlon, as they do some very generous sizes, especially their MTB range.

  • Wow , Vernon's weight loss is pretty impressive.
I was really dissapointed with my own loss , i've been on the bike everyday , mostly doing a 10.1 mile circuit on the i-magic but i've also done some 17.9 mile runs.
Looks like i need to make some drastic changes to the diet as well.
    Good luck to all.

Relax, I've only lost four pounds - I got the sums wrong. I'm just back in after completing a 100km hilly DIY Audax taking in Leeds, Knaresborough, Skipton and back to Leeds. The weather deteriorated sharply at the half way point and I had a headwind and driving rain to contend with on my way back.

Can't wait to shed six stones or so to see how I fare with the Grimpeur Audax events.

i'm a bit disappointed not to lose any as i'm on 3 figure mileage a week now. thats an increase of 40%! still average 16mph+ on each ride too. i've also stopped drinking alcohol in the week and have only consumed 4 pints of tetleys in the last 3 weeks.

With most of the weights in - http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a248/ ... /4mar1.gif

I have slightly changed the order, places are decided on BMI loss and not weight loss unless anyone else has a better idea!
Star performer is slipknotjonny - well done but you have all done well.
I went out yesterday (Sunday) but I left it a bit late - about 8:30 start, traffic fairly light, very hot and a strong headwind on the way home.

I am hopeful of shedding some weight this fortnight, I am busy shifting barrow loads of soil trying to level out the steep hill that lives behind our house posing as a garden. I am definately losing many pounds to landscapers as well -ho hum.

Thanks for your sterling effort mr hippo administering this challenge.

What can I say? Should have done better? Shouldn't have gone on holiday? It's early days yet, and I'm still down over half a stone on the year.
