Those were the days...

it's good that you accept that the tories left us with the highest tax burden in decades and a huge hole in public finances

So are high taxes good or bad in your books?

I was just doing the figures on what others were saying but hell this is your field. Mine was sussing out the sociopaths🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

bad, which is why the tories had to go
if they stop wasting time with culture wars, attacking individual rights, and damaging business, perhaps they'll regain competence to govern, become electable again, and cut taxes

Lower interest rates under Labour.

And growth forecasts upgraded from 0.5% to 1.25% for this year.

Labour should say thanks to the Tories for putting in the work that led up to this increase. There is always a lag between improving economic conditions and the data feeding through into the forecasts.

It was already on the cards based on the economic commentary I saw.

Got it - can't pin any of the overspend on the last lot, but all the good news is their doing.

You're learning.

It makes discussion a bit dull though, when there is no critical thought applied.

True, I'm still waiting for someone on Cake Stop apart from me to criticise Labour. My squadron of pigs is on standby.

Look harder. I've already commented on the problems in the proposed housing targets.
But the stupidest thing they've done so far is cancel a load of infrastructure projects instead of reversing Hunt's unfunded employee NIC cut.

You need to read better.

Labour capitulates to the unions again.
Who's next for a handout I wonder?
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
15% backdated over 3 years is hardly earth shattering, especially when including 2022, but don't let that get in the way of the headlines.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -

It’s another can that had been kicked down the road until someone had to clear it away.

Or alternatively, another thing that Tories 'accidentally' broke. IIRC, they prevented interested parties from trying to solve it, as it gave them an opportunity to blame unions for something.

Possibly not for you, as your train fares will likely have to go up to cover the cost. And given that Labour did not negotiate any changes to working practices etc with the rail unions, the service won't get any better. Given your perma-moaning about trains I'm surprised you're happy with this.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
So chucking money at the problem is the only answer? Without getting the unions to change working practices etc? Sounds like the Labour of old.

Can't imagine why this Labour minister would be so shy about who is going to pay for all of these pay rises?
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
A below inflation rise, most of which is backdated seems like a pretty good deal. As with almost all skilled jobs there are vacancies so pay goes up. That's just a basic fact of being an employer. Of course if the previous government hadn't taken pay negotiations out of the operators' hands it wouldn't even be a public pay dispute.

15% for the last three years is a fair bit less than I got without having to negotiate. As they haven't had a pay rise since 2019, it doesn't seem crazy.

Well done you, maybe you were underpaid before but £70k a year for driving a train seems a bit on the high side to me. Some people are just greedy and the unions will be back for more, as they now know that striking pays. Not just the rail unions either.
"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
And not just other unions trying their luck: the same ones will likely be back for more now they have seen Labour's weakness and willingness to please:
Just because its lefties in charge does not mean the unions will suddenly be nice & cuddly and get back in their boxes.

The entire 3-year pay settlement amounts to around £100m out of a total rail subsidy of £11bn a year.

No, it's just inflation.
